2 Body Imaging Update Body, Joint and Vascular Conditions January 15-20, 2006 The UCSF Department of Radiology will present a postgraduate course in body imaging in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. This course is designed for the radiologist in clinical practice. It is intended to provide an overview and update on clinically relevant topics in diagnostic imaging, as well as an up-to-date assessment of the clinical uses of imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, and sonography in the diagnosis of diseases of the chest, abdomen, and vascular system. Ample time will be available for informal discussions with the course faculty. In this course, the participant will gain an understanding of the appropriate use of basic and advanced radiologic techniques, including MDCT, MRI, MRA, and ultrasound in different clinical settings, and in the diagnosis of thoracic, abdominal, and vascular diseases. Practical uses of imaging techniques will be stressed. At the end of the course participants should be able to: - Explain thoracic diagnosis including the CT assessment of the solitary pulmonary nodule, the CT diagnosis of large airways disease, and a practical approach to the high-resolution lung CT of common infiltrative lung disease, emphasizing decision making in diagnosis; - Discuss noninvasive vascular imaging, including sonography, CTA, and MRA, the assessment of aortic stents, the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism; - Discuss vascular interventional techniques including venous interventions and IVC filter placement, transcatheter thrombolysis, and dialysis access complications; - Explain CT / MR imaging diagnosis of abdominal abnormalities, including pancreatic diseases, liver lesions, renal masses, adrenal abnormalities, and the use and utility of virtual colonoscopy; - Explain MRI diagnosis of musculoskeletal abnormalities including those involving the shoulder, ankle, hip, and knee; - Discuss state-of-the-art sonographic diagnosis of postmenopausal bleeding, fetal CNS abnormalities, and complications of early pregnancy, including a review of saline infusion sonohysterography and AIUM guidelines for the antepartum obstetrical sonogram. Faculty, UCSF School of Medicine W. Richard Webb, MD Course Director Professor of Radiology, Chief, Thoracic Imaging Ruth B. Goldstein, MD Professor of Radiology and of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences Chief, Ultrasound Bonnie N. Joe, MD, PhD Assistant Professor of Radiology Lynne S.
