2 Practical Musculoskeletal MRI in the Desert February 1-3, 2004 Course Director: Lynne S. Steinbach, MD Professor of Radiology and Orthopedics Chief, Musculoskeletal Imaging University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine This course is designed for both the beginner and the advanced practitioner in musculoskeletal MRI. The basic fundamentals of imaging as well as the more sophisticated techniques will be presented. Up-to-date imaging protocols will be taught, as well as imaging pitfalls. Opportunity for questions and answers from the faculty will be provided. Particular attention will be placed on the more commonly requested exams, such as the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle. Educational Objectives At the completion of this course the registrants should have knowledge of all facets of musculoskeletal MRI. Practical, rather than theoretical, information will be emphasized. Each registrant will be introduced to the following MRI topics, and at the end of the program, should be able to demonstrate practical imaging techniques for an improved diagnosis of: Shoulder, Elbow and Wrist Knee, Ankle and Foot Hip Cartilage Imaging Cysts and Bursae Muscle trauma Technical considerations Bone Marrow Infection Soft-tissue masses Bone Tumors Faculty Robert D. Boutin, MD Radiologist Med-Tel International Davis, California Mini N. Pathria, M.D. Professor of Radiology University of California, San Diego School of Medicine Registration Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure that registrants receive a syllabus and CME certificate at the course. 3 Course Director: Fergus V. Coakley, MD Associate Professor of Radiology Chief, Abdominal Imaging University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine Helical CT/MRI of the Abdomen and Pelvis February 4-6, 2004 The overall goal of this program is to provide an updated review on the use of helical CT (including single and multidetector row helical CT) and MRI for imaging of the abdomen and pelvis. Registrants will learn the current approach and uses of CT/MRI in the examination of the abdomen and pelvis, including advances in abdominal MRI technique, Women s Imaging applications of CT/MRI, CT colonoscopy, and CT/MR angiography. A balanced emphasis will be placed on review of core concepts as well as future directions emerging in academic practice. Practical applications of all these techniques will be highlighted. Attendees should gain familiarity with the latest approaches to helical CT/MRI including familiarity with imaging techniques, their appropriate utilization and review of protocols. The course will further provide an opportunity to assess the relative merits and indications for the use of these two modalities in the various abdominopelvic organ systems. After attending this course, participants should be able to: - Compare and contrast the benefits and limitations of helical CT/MRI in multiple diagnostic areas in the abdomen and pelvis, including evaluation of the acute abdomen; - Indicate the use of helical CT in comparison to MRI for various disorders; - Evaluate multiple diagnostic problems employing diagnostic helical CT/MRI; - Better interpret helical CT/MR images; - Better interpret helical CT/MR images of the abdomen and pelvis; - Describe the utilization of helical CT, including newer application such as CT angiography, CT colonography, and CT health screening; - Describe the practical utilization of MR imaging techniques and results; - Advise colleagues of current imaging advances.
