2 UCSF Radiology is pleased to present its two winter m Body Imaging in Paradise: Helical CT/MRI Practical Tips & Pointers January 18-23, 2004 This course will enable participants to become familiar with the techniques and applications of CT (including single spiral and multidetector-row) and MRI in the evaluation of musculoskeletal, thoracic and abdominopelvic disease. A balanced emphasis will be placed on review of core concepts as well as future directions emerging in academic practice. The modern evaluation of articular, pulmonary, genitourinary and gastrointestinal disease will be described. Three-dimensional reformation will be reviewed, including the relative merits of MDCT and CTA. Practical applications of all these techniques will be highlighted. Upon completion of the formal lectures and interesting case sessions, the registrant should be able to: - Describe the relevant merits and limitations of helical CT and MRI in various musculoskeletal, thoracic, and abdominopelvic pathologies; - List the appropriate technical protocols for both modalities, including advanced techniques such as CTA, MRSI and MDCT; - Better interpret helical CT and MR images of the abdomen and pelvis; - Describe the utilization of helical CT and its three-dimensional applications; - Describe the practical utilization of MR imaging techniques and results; - Formulate optimal radiologic imaging approaches to a large variety of abnormalities and pathological conditions; - Advise colleagues of current imaging advances. Course Director Fergus V. Coakley, MD Associate Professor of Radiology Chief, Abdominal Imaging University of California, San Francisco Enrollment Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure your space in this course. 6 The Big Island of Hawai i Perhaps on no other island does the mystique of the past resonate so clearly in the present. The spirit of a living, thriving culture and the timeless grace and warmth known as aloha, find full expression in the character of the people and tempo of life on the island. Visitors to The Big Island have incredible diversity at their doorstep: fiery volcanoes and verdant valleys, lush rainforests and ancient lava fields, rolling ranchlands and rugged coastlines, snow-capped mountains and pristine beaches of white, black and even green sand. The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii Traditions of unsurpassed service and accommodations have been captured at The Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast of the Island of Hawai i. Here an ambience of classic sophistication has been adapted to suit the natural surroundings of Hawaii, without compromising the high standards of decor, service and dining that have made The Orchid the hotel of choice. Recreational activities are endless here. You can enjoy the 36-hole Francis H.I. Brown Golf Courses, former home of the Senior Skins Game; tennis on any of ten plexipave courts, including a stadium court; a 10,000 square-foot freshwater swimming pool and surrounding whirlpools; a protected whitesand lagoon and full-service ocean activities desk with complimentary use of snorkel equipment; year-round kids program; complimentary access to The Fitness Center, offering creative wellness options; basketball; poolside ping-pong; beach volleyball, and more. Guests may start off their mornings with a tennis clinic, power walk and stretch, low-impact aerobic conditioning, or even a snorkel cruise. Then venture out for an introductory scuba lesson, beach and pool volleyball tournaments, or round-robin tennis tournaments. A romantic evening sunset sail or just watching the Kohala sunset from a swaying beachside hammock completes the day. The Orchid's "Keiki Aloha" (children's program) utilizes the hotel's unique location and enables its young guests to make new friends and learn more about Hawaii -- it's The Orchid's way of sharing "aloha" with future generations. "Keiki", (children ages five through twelve who are staying with their parents at the hotel), can participate in a wide range of special activities so that each child will share in the excitement of discovering a new culture. The activity schedule includes daily themed activities including: Hawaiian storytelling, hula lessons, coconut-leaf weaving and other island arts & crafts. Plenty of outdoor activities are scheduled to enjoy the Kohala coast's great weather. Prices vary with half-day or full-day programs.
