1 WOMEN'S IMAGING A New Course for a New Specialty September 27 - October 1, 2004 Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Boyes Hot Springs - Sonoma, California Presented by the Department of Radiology University of California San Francisco School of Medicine
2 Women's Imaging In light of the recent interest in health care targeted at the diagnosis and screening of medical problems specific to women s health, this course is designed for practitioners with a special interest in women s imaging. The overall goal of this program is to provide current information on the relevant use of imaging and interventional techniques in women for breast and gynecologic pathology, as well as women s health screening. Core concepts and future directions will be addressed, including screening of cancer and osteoporosis, digital mammography, computer aided diagnosis, and medicolegal issues Practical applications will be highlighted. Topics covered will include breast imaging and intervention, benign/malignant gynecologic imaging and intervention, cancer screening, advances in the evaluation of osteoporosis and sports related injuries, and fetal imaging. At the completion of the course, registrants will have increased knowledge of current imaging technology and protocols applicable to women s health imaging. They should be able to: - describe the role of imaging in the diagnosis of and screening for ovarian cancer; - compare breast imaging modalities, including digital mammography, computer-aided detection, breast ultrasound, MRI and interventional techniques; - recognize advances in health and cancer screening, including the role of virtual colonoscopy, imaging of osteoporosis and sports related injuries and the controversy of whole body CT screening; - diagnose and list the pitfalls of benign and malignant gynecologic conditions employing appropriate use of diagnostic ultrasound and MRI; - appropriately perform and recommend uterine and adnexal interventional techniques including fibroid embolization; - employ state-of-the-art fetal sonographic diagnostic pearls; - understand the indications for the use of MRI in high risk obstetrical imaging and recognize the MRI appearance of fetal anomalies; - better understand the medicolegal factors affecting the present and future of breast and fetal imaging and the steps you can take to protect yourself.
