2 One of my superheroes has died. My uncle Frank passed away at an age that was much too young. Frank was 20 years old when I was 5. To me he was Charles Atlas, he was Clark Gable, he was superman, he was Uncle Frank. He was hard working, energetic, always full of love, and happy to share the good times. I'm glad we had a chance to share some memories and celebrate together a few times. It was a great privilege for me to visit with Frank this past summer for his 75th birthday. I was looking forward to his 76th and his 85th. There is an emptiness in my heart as I'm sure there is a deep sadness in all those who knew him and loved him. We have lost one of the most welcoming, one of the finest people, and the best superhero a kid could ever want. I loved his easy rolling laughter and the mischievous twinkle he always had in his joyful eyes. I've enjoyed many fun times in his company: there was always some great yarn from days gone by to retell or passionate debate on current or past political issues. Uncle Frank was very kind and indulgent and I was an extremely happy and lucky recipient years ago of his old fishing gaff and a line of squid jiggers which hang in my kitchen reminding me daily of him and his disbelief that I wanted to have what he considered 'useless old things' which have Dunphy's Funeral Home Page 2 of 7

3 always been, and are now even more, precious to me. Visits with Uncle Frank always felt like being in some kind of magical wonderland where all were welcomed and made to feel special. I was among the lucky ones who toasted him on his 75th birthday last summer and had looked forward to many more such toasts in the years to come. My heart breaks for those of you who were lucky enough to call him your family and for all the people in his life who cared about him. Uncle Frank was a very special man and if there is a heaven, rest assured, he is up there meeting his old acquaintances and sharing stories and jokes with one and all! Rest in peace in the arms of the angels Uncle Frank, you can count me among one who dearly loved you and shall forever miss you. My sincere condolences to his family on his passing.
