Frontline Newsletter FEBRUARY 2016 ISSUE 10 Competition to Celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday Welcome to the February edition of Frontline. This month we acknowledge yet more of our hard working security personnel and have a very moving and humbling tribute to one of our security officers too. We are also looking forward to the Queens Birthday on 21st April when Queen Elizabeth II will be celebrating her 90th Birthday. In her honour, we will be awarding a fantastic prize of a London hotel and theatre break for two people. In the run up to her birthday, we are asking you to nominate someone in the company who you believe really deserves a special prize. It could be for their longevity of service, their loyalty, their work ethic or the fact that they are a great ambassador for the company. Please send your nomination to news@brooknight.com, clearly outlining the name of the employee you would like to nominate and why you believe they would be so deserving of this award. Nominations will be received up to the 21st April 2016 and the winner will be announced in the April edition of Frontline. Brooknight would also like to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year, which started on 6th February. This is the year of the Monkey and, having followed a Year of the Sheep, a year of contemplation, this is the year to act, innovate and take matters into your own hands. Apparently, defined goals and an adventurous path is what this year has in stall for all. Here s to a fabulous February, Kathryn, Editor
Special Guest at Operations Meeting The Brooknight Operations team, pictured left, were given a fabulous opportunity to meet and ask questions of Tim Moore, Director of Global Loss Prevention, Swarovski, when he attended their recent team meeting. Tim gave a presentation on Swarovski and how they endeavour to work closely with their partners in the wider Swarovski family. He also presented the team with amazing prizes for the great service they provide (and when we say amazing prizes, we mean amazing Swarovski prizes!). Jim Moyes, CEO, pictured right with Tim, received a special Swarovski paperweight to say thank you to Brooknight. Thank you Tim for a memorable and really inspirational visit. Impressive Work Rate of Nottingham Team A recent article in the Nottingham Post revealed that Primark is the most likely shop in Nottingham to be hit by thieves. A total of 175 people were caught stealing from the clothing store in 2015, nearly one every two days, which means our security officers in store are doing an fantastic job. Police say more than half of reported shop thefts last year had "successful outcomes", which include cautions and prosecutions. Congratulations to the entire security team at Nottingham Primark. Congratulations Lewis! Huge congratulations go to Lewis Middleton-Sewell and girlfriend Lisa, on the birth of their son Jordan, born on 17th February. Lewis is a technician in our FM Services and has been instrumental in the installation of the state of the art equipment that Brooknight now supplies through their technologies division.
The Three Musketeers from Kent Sonny Vallipuram, Regional Supervisor, nominated Security Officers Jiwanath Magar, Rudra Limbu and Mani Rai for Security Excellence Awards for being, well, just brilliant. Dubbed 'The Three Musketeers', these three Security Officers never fail to impress. Not only are they dedicated and hardworking, they also incredibly flexible and happy to help at a moments notice. To give you an example, on February 9th at 2017hrs, Sonny urgently needed an officer at Reading. Rudra, who was on Kent Mobile duty, was asked to take over from Jiwanath at the Quadrant Estate. Jiwanath was then asked to leave for Reading. In the meantime, Mani, who was enjoying a lovely evening off, was called to come in and take over at the Quadrant Estate. None of the officers hesitated in coming to the rescue and by 2100hrs Sonny's problem was solved. Thank you to Jiwanath, Mani and Rudra for your amazing response and help, you really deserve your awards. Jiwanath Magar Mani Ray Rudra Limbu
Security Excellence Awards On Saturday 13th February, Primark Training Supervisor, Rob Kennedy, noticed a female acting suspiciously in our Wakefield Primark store. Rob captured her on CCTV as she produced a number of bags and emptied shelves of children's clothes into them. She then concealed the bags under a unit and then repeated the exercise. Once she had three full bags, the female in question exited the store. Rob stopped her and as soon as he identified himself, she tried t run off. The police were called and the woman arrested with stolen goods of in her possession. As it transpired the women was a well known to the police and prolific shoplifter. Rob also issued a civil recovery notice. Sharon, the store manager, was extremely pleased with Rob's efforts particularly as the women was well known and had only recently been released from prison. a Congratulations also go to Security Officers Brian Holness (pictured left) and Gavin Wright, who both received praise from Geoff Wooloff, Security Consultant, Primark, after they successfully stopped and deterred a well known and prolific fraudster in the Derby store. The man in question came into the store demanding compensation for a piece of metal found in a garment, which he alleged had injured his daughter (he even produced a photo of a young girl with a cut to her head, although this was later revealed to be an image he had downloaded from the internet). Brian and Gavin were not fooled by his story and called the police. It transpired that the man was known and wanted for refund fraud and had hit a number of other stores across the country. Brooknight would like to add their thanks to both Brian and Gavin for their vigilance and professionalism in dealing with this situation
Security Officer Bradley Wellman Security Officer Nathan Sherwin wrote to Frontline, asking us to share a truly inspirational story about one of our amazing security officers, Bradley Wellman. In 2010, Bradley's life was turned upside down following a diagnosis of cancer. After a successful thyroidectomy operation, Bradley was given the devastating news that he would never have children and would need to be on medication for the rest of his life. Six years on and Bradley now has what Nathan describes as his 'miracle family'. Incredibly, against all odds, Bradley and his wife Natalie went on to have two sons and, on 30th December 2015, the birth of a little baby girl, Phoebe Ann, completed their family. As godfather to Phoebe, Nathan is very proud to be part of Bradley's wonderful family and, as he states; 'Family is a powerful word which resonates with us all. It is about loyalty, trust, respect and friendship'. Bradley, who works at the Primark store in Chester, sadly still suffers but, as Nathan explains, 'Bradley never complains and I respect him in every way possible. He's a fighter who keeps going, never gives up and strives to be the best that he can be. In doing so, he is a fantastic role model for his children and a great father'. Thank you to Nathan for sharing this moving tribute to his friend and Brooknight would like to wish Bradley and his family all the happiness they so very much deserve.
Tamworth Club Presentation Evening On 6th February, Chris Fieldhouse MD, David Marchio, National Accounts Director and Shayne O'Brien, Head of Operations, represented Brooknight at the Tamworth Amateur Swimming Club's presentation evening at Drayton Manor. As Brooknight had sponsored the evening, Chris Fieldhouse was invited to present swimming medals to all the members who had won events at their annual club gala and throughout the year. Leonie O'Brien, Shayne's daughter, won two trophies and six gold medals (Shayne is now planning to build an extension to house all the medals that Leonie has won over the years!) A great evening was had by all and congratulations to all the swimmers who won awards. President and Mayor of Tamworth, Maureen Gant, Chris Fieldhouse, Chairman Geoff Blake with swimmers Robbie Truman, Hollie McKay and Leonie O Brien
