The Alzheimer Society of Huron County is the first link to support for people diagnosed with a form of dementia. Also, as importantly it serves as a lifeline for their loved ones to turn for support while going through the challenges and unknowns that come with a diagnosis of dementia. As more and more people are diagnosed with dementia the demand for care increases too. In order to maintain the high level of care we pride ourselves on offering at the Alzheimer Society, we must fundraise to keep our doors open and support services available freely to those who need them. As the demand for services grow, our appeal for community support increases as well. Our goal is a lofty one, to change the face of Alzheimer s disease. Ultimately, to live in a world where Alzheimer s disease is a thing of the past. But to get there, we need your help. 3 Our Supporters & Media Exposure Our Support Community A common misconception about Alzheimer s disease and other dementias is that it only affects old people. While the probability of diagnosis does increase with age, people are diagnosed in their 30s and it s becoming more common to see diagnoses here in Huron County of people in their mid 50s. This is not a normal part of ageing. The community that supports our fight against Alzheimer s is vast demographic and growing every year. Our events encompass all ages and circumstance where we strive to have an event to suit all the varied tastes within Huron County. Dementia is becoming an epidemic on our health care system with a projected increase of 40% within the next 20 years - unless something is done to stop it. Dementia awareness has taken a spot light as the number one fear in adults over cancer and heart disease. Add your support against this frightening disease and together lets change the face of Alzheimer s disease, and ultimately the future for all of us. As a part of the Alzheimer Society network made up of 37 Ontario chapters, and more than 65 nationally we have an exceptionally committed community and major supports.
