Dean Johnsen gave the welcome address and Dr. Chris Barwacz, president of the Iowa Section of AADR gave introductions for keynote speaker Dr. Anthony Brennan, University of Florida at Gainesville, whose address was A New Model for Bioadhesion. Following Dr. Brennan, there were oral, poster and table clinic presentations. The awards banquet was held that evening at the Coralville Holiday Inn. Page 12 Dental Public Health Club Partners with Special Populations Involvement Division to Deliver Mouthguards to Adult Athletes with Special Needs Pokam Takougang (D4) and Adam Bahr (D3) at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center. and personally fit and deliver the mouthguards. The project was originally the brainchild of former DPH Club President, Brad Camp (Class of 2014). With support from a UI Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) service grant, the club looks forward to delivering more mouthguards for flag football during the fall season and possibly expanding to other annual Special Olympics events in the future. For the first time this year, the Dental Public Health Club recently partnered with the local Special Populations Involvement Division and delivered mouthguards to adult athletes with special needs in the community. Student and faculty volunteers went to the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center on Gilbert Street on January 29 and February 5 to make alginate impressions during basketball practice. Dr. Jennifer Hartshorn, Preventive & Community Dentistry, was the faculty lead for this project, and Drs. Leo Marchini, Preventive & Community, and Michael Kanellis, Clinic Administration, oversaw the impressions made onsite. Volunteers also helped make flyers, collect consent forms, pour up and trim casts, form mouthguards, Adam Bahr (D3) checks over an adult athlete with special needs.
