4 Resident Spotlight Birte (Bea) G. is the type of person whose face lights up when she sees animals. She has always owned cats, and helped rescue several strays when she lived in New Jersey from the late 1960s until Bea enjoys spending time with her cat Coco. You will often find her door closed but that s just so her cute kitty won t escape and get lost. She would love to have visitors, especially fellow cat lovers. Coco is very friendly. Bea always looks forward to visits from the therapy dogs that come to Sheldon Meadows, and appreciated the opportunity to see the Birds of Prey. She s looking forward to a visit to Meijer Gardens to see the butterflies. Bea was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and spent most of her early years in Denmark and traveling around Europe, including France and Portugal. Her first language is Danish. She has a sister, Annie, who you might overhear her speaking Danish with. Growing up, Bea enjoyed swimming and diving, and going to the beach. She loves the water and is looking forward to summer arriving, and swimming in a friends pool. In the late 1960s Bea moved to America, and settled down in New Jersey where she made a career in fashion as a pattern maker for companies like Liz Claiborne and Evan Picone. As a graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology, her eye for high quality fabrics, textiles and flawlesss clothing has always been a Bea part of who she is. Her past hobbies including sewing, knitting, and shopping for a unique and well-made wardrobe that fits properly. Bea is new to Michigan and is finding the fields and farmlands of Hudsonville a big contrast to the urban cities near New York City where she lived and worked for over 40 years. Bea s niece Amanda and her family are what brought her to live in Michigan and she has enjoyed spending time with them, especially their dogs Toby, Roy and Sonja. Together, they have taken trips to Meijer Gardens to see the Christmas Trees, Disney on Ice, and most recently the movie Greatest Showman. She also loves to attend events for her great nephews and niece, such as basketball, taekwondo, marching band and winter guard performances. In her earlier years, Bea also played basketball and loves to stay active with walking around the mall or trying Tai Chi. There is one more thing that makes Bea happy. Dessert. Her favorite food is ice cream. So it definitely is a big perk that her nephew Scott works at Hudsonville Creamery. If you stop by her room, you will often find her offering you jolly ranchers or M&Ms while she watches her favorite TV shows like the Westminster Dog Show or Law & Order. I am 28 years old, and I grew up in Wyoming, MI where I attended The Potter's House Christian School from K-12th grade. While attending school I was very involved in sports. I played basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball. I was also a part of the school choir which I enjoyed very much. After graduating high school in 2007, I finished my schooling for cosmetology, and later went on to become a Medical Assistant. I have two younger brothers, one being 27 and the other 21. I began working here at Sheldon Meadows in December of I love working here. The relationships and friendships I have made here have changed my life for the better. I enjoy coming to work every day; as each day brings something new, and I plan on staying for as long as the Lord allows.
