1 Rayshel Haidinyak Nov. / Dec Family Holiday Celebration The holidays are upon us once again. This year our Holiday Celebration with our residents, resident families, and staff is scheduled for December 14 th at 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity for our staff, residents, and resident families to dress up and spend some personal time with each other while enjoying music, holiday food and beverages. You will be receiving an invitation mid November. Please be sure to R.S.V.P. as we would like to be prepared to accommodate all of our guests that evening. Employee Appreciation In the past you have been very generous to the staff of Sierra Vista by donating to the employee appreciation fund. This year we are asking those who would like to participate, to donate a wrapped gift, valued at no more than $ Our staff and our residents will again this year, celebrate together on Christmas Eve morning. This is a very special time for us as we enjoy a delicious brunch prepared by our dietary staff. We then hand out our secret Santa gifts to our residents. This year we would like to give gifts from our residents to our staff. Please do not put names on your donated gifts. We will be drawing names to add to the excitement of what s inside. Please drop off your wrapped gift before December 18 th to the business office. This lady has been at SV since August of 08. This person kept her evenings very busy by Knitting and with her very meticulous work her cross stitching. You can catch her remarkable pieces of art displayed at our personal creations day the first Friday of every month. She also is a great friend and great example of health and fitness as you will always find her being part of our walking club trying to accomplish her mile in three days. Great job! We are so glad you chose us to be part of your lives. Welcome home and please enjoy all that Sierra Vista has to offer! Wanda M. 8/15

6 November Madeline W.11/07 Dorothy M. 11/19 Barbara H. 11/29 December Roma S. 12/05 Wanda W. 1 2/17 A Note from the Activities Director Lucia Garcia Hello everyone I can not believe it is this time a year once again. We will be having our yearly Family Holiday Celebration on Dec. 14 more detail to come. As for our Thanksgiving celebration we will have an intimate lunch on Nov. 28 for our residents to dine all together in one seating as a family. We have started traditions of our own one of my favorites is Christmas eve brunch with a special surprise visit by Santa Clause with resident and staff gifts, this is always a memorable time. The holidays are very special to all of us and we would love to know your Christmas traditions maybe it could be carried on next year. See activities to print and share your traditions with your friends maybe you have more in common with your neighbor than you thought! May you have a happy and healthy holiday season! EOTM Brianna Miller My name is Brianna Elizabeth Miller, I m 23, I was born at St. Mary s Hospital on I ve lived in Apple Valley my whole life. At 16 I moved to Phoenix, AZ to help take care of my two aunts. I stayed there until I graduated high School at the top of my class and a year early in Dec.2007, some time later both of my aunts passed away. My family and I moved back to California, where my career in caring for the elderly began. My job touches home for me and I always remember that the way I take care of my family is how I should always care for others. I m religious and believe as a Christian that in our fathers eyes we are all his children. I m truly blessed to do what I love, and care for others as I care for my family. Thank you for choosing me as employee of the month.
7 Cherri Copeland Resident Care Director The holiday season is fast approaching which can bring added stress and depression. A few tips to help this season are from the Mayo clinic. 1.Reach out to family and friends, 2. Acknowledge your feelings so that you can devise strategies to overcome them. 3. Learn to say "No" to parties, or other tasks that may cause you stress or overextend you. 4. Be realistic. Thanksgiving and Christmas do not have to be big or extravagant, simple is sometimes better. 5. Plan ahead. Start earlier in the year by breaking up tasks into bite sized chunks. 6. Stick to a budget. 7. Take a breather. Set aside time for yourself to relax and recoup. 8. Don't abandoned healthy habits. Use healthier selections for appetizers and snacks to avoid weight gain and feelings of over indulgence. 9. Seek professional medical advice for symptoms that persist. Fitness Activities Lucia Garcia Every morning 9:30 9:45 We have our morning exercise regiment that consists of 15 minutes of chair exercises. This is a lively exercise program that features a serious of warm-ups, exercises and cool downs designed to improve range motion, body spatial orientation, lateral/ bilateral and muscle strengthening activities. Tues. and Thurs. at 9:30 Resistance & Weight Training This is designed for muscle building and toning also for stretching of the muscles. Cushioned grips are easy and comfortable to hold. This is easy on the joints while the center supports and increases exercise possibilities. ROTM Lucia Garcia Having spiritual health is as important as physical health. Take time out of your day to reconnect with what's really important in your life. Sundays 2:30-3:30 Calvary Chapel Church of Adelanto Wednesday 10:15 am Nursing Home Ministries Bible Study with Cathy Stickley Thursdays 9:00am Lila Russavage from Holy Innocents Catholic Church Gives Holy Communion Every day 9:45am Daily Word Wishing you and your families a very blessed holiday season. Dear Sierra vista People, When I first moved here on April 2, 2012 I fell in love with my bungalow and all that came with it staff, fountain, activities, etc. Since then I have had to learn some things about friendliness because I was always a loner who didn t socialize. And I still love it here thanks to all my friends I have made here! Thank you everyone for making this place special to me. ANSWER TO WHO AM I: ElVINA CURRAN
