1 Patuxent Moose Lodge # 2393 March-April 2015 FROM THE DESK OF THE GOVERNOR Ladies and Gentleman of Patuxent Lodge 2393 This will be my last governor s message with this board. I would like to take this time to thank all of the people who have given guidance to me and the board and for all the help we have had this year. I can't emphasize enough the gratitude of the Board to all the members, coworkers and volunteers who have worked together in the name of Mooseheart and Moosehaven to keep this Lodge going. I am encouraging all the members to step up to help out. We have a lot of folks that have been volunteering there time for a long time. It is time for them to pass their knowledge to new volunteers, and take a well-deserved break. We have a full calendar for the next couple of months and I would like to keep it that way for the rest of the year. We have a lot of members on the rolls but very few that actual come out to support the lodge. We need to get the word out to all the inactive members to come back to the lodge. I would like to sell advertisements spots in the newsletters to help offset the cost of producing and send the letters out. A suggestion box has been installed at the lodge that I review often and bring to the board for action if needed. Feel free to sign your name to the suggestion but that is not required. I can promise you one thing; I will review every suggestion/complaint that goes in the box and bring the appropriate one to the board for discussion. I have a list of the standing committees and their chairs located on the board by the rear door. If you would like to help out any of the committee chairs I am sure they will welcome the help. Read the description and see if it is something you want to do. We will not be able to fix all the problems overnight, but I believe if we all work together we will be heading down the right path soon. For those of you with computers or access to computers please me your correct address if you didn t receive this Board of Officers Governor: Wayne LaFleur Past Governor: Vacant Jr. Governor: Matt Griffith Prelate: Ronald Payne Treasurer: Victor Copp Temporary Administrator: Lawrence Shorback Jr. Trustees: 1 st year: John Price 2 nd year: Lee Huston 3 rd year: Jeff Kreps Sgt. at Arms: Kyle Boyd Inner Guard: David Readmond Outer Guard: Vacant

2 electronically. I also want to list a few important websites that are chock full of good information; Moose International MD-DE-DC Moose Association - Moose Lodge Fraternally Yours Lodge 2393 Governor Wayne LaFleur Promotions One of the promotions being held by our association, MD-DE-DC, is if you sign up 5 members this fiscal year (May April) your name will go into a drawing. The drawing will cover the first thousand dollars of your international convention fees; basically the association will send you to the international conference and pay for airfare, hotel and conference registration. This is a good chance to see Nashville on someone else dime. Information Special Olympics a Core Initiative for Heart of the Community Program One of the six core initiatives within the Moose Fraternity s Heart of the Community program is Special Olympics. Thanks to support from the Moose, Special Olympics North America has hosted an invitational softball event each year since Participation ranged from 20 teams in the initial year to 32 at its largest and continues to grow. There was no stand-alone softball event in Special Olympics until the Moose got involved, Moose International Director of Activities Shawn Baile said. We have had a hand in not only providing an opportunity, but in contributing to a specific sport in the Special Olympics program, he added. This Fraternity has created something that s created a lot of interest and desire in the people who otherwise would not have this opportunity to compete. In addition to substantial financial support, Moose members volunteer their time to ensure these events run smoothly. Mooseheart students have also traveled to the competitions to volunteer their time as well. I ve said so many times that there are so many things in Special Olympics that make it worthwhile, Baile said. The athletes not only have a desire to win, but they also pull for the other guy, even if it s their opponent. I ve seen athletes high-five an opponent who hits a home run. You definitely cover the full range of emotions in seven innings of a Special Olympics softball game, there s no doubt about it. New LOOM Members for January and February, 2015 We would like to welcome the following brothers into the Moose. They have joined in the months of Jan-Feb Kevin Gistedt Sponsor Barbara Johnston John Lawrence Sponsor Lawrence Shorback Charles Johnson Sponsor John Armsworthy Scottie Bean Sponsor Barry Mattingly David Rivera Sponsor William Griffith Raymond Masoka Sponsor Wayne LaFleur Johnny Curry Sponsor Dawn Day Manuel Luangeyan Sponsor Kathy Dunivan Michael Dillow Sponsor Dawn Day Anthony Mistretta Sponsor William Griffith If any of you see them congratulate them for joining our lodge and let s get them as excited about our lodge as we are.

4 Senior Regent Message Dear Co-workers, Family and Friends, I would like to thank you for all of your support during this past year while I held the position of Chaplain, and Pro-tem Senior Regent. Your support has been the very thing to make my job easier. I would like to remind everyone that the election time has come around again and we are excited to see who will be taking over the WOTM Board of Officers. Your votes and voices should be heard. We have a busy schedule coming and the election meetings are posted in the Lodge. Please stop in and get your dates on your calendar! The offices we are voting on are Senior Regent, Junior Regent, Secretary Treasurer and Recorder. Once again, thank you for all of your support and we look forward to seeing new faces at our meetings! Fraternally, Linda Coppage, Chaplain From the Board of Officers If there is an altercation or incident in the social quarters or outside, please have the bar steward right up an incident report. The house committee will review and act on all incident reports. If the bartender is too busy at the time of the incident, then catch them when they are not so busy, even the next day. This is the process we have in place to document issues. 5 PATUXENT MENS ARE DUES LOWERED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATLY The Board has recommended and the LOOM has passed new dues for the LOOM, so effective Nov 19 our dues went down to $45 per year. It will be February before LCL catches up with it. If you get a letter stating your dues are due and it says $55 that is why. You are only required to pay $45. We have lost a few members on our rooster this year. Hopefully this will make it easier to entice new members to join our lodge. Message: Assistant Territory Manager for Territory #10 Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Moose Association Brothers and Co-Workers, Thanks to all who attended the Mid Winter Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. A great time was had by all who attended. Keep pushing Moose Charities' Rocker Campaign during the month of February to raise monies by donating in the form of a special endowment in honor of our seniors that are living at Moosehaven. We are down to the final two months of the Moose Year. Patuxent Moose Lodge and Chapter with your help are going to finish its membership year by getting just one more member then last year? The Loom of our lodge is doing a fantastic job in getting new members. Our WOTM will need help in making their year. Follow me in helping by submitting at least two members as I have done last month. There is time to achieve that gain but it is going to take some effort from our members. Get your Retention and Recovery Teams on the phone encouraging those in arrears to pay their dues, and those who are expiring to pay before their due date. I am confident that as a team we can and will have a gain for Patuxent. As the Back To Basics campaign winds down I hope that all have truly understood what this campaign was all about. It is much more than a membership campaign. If we all did our job every current and prospective member would understand just what we as Moose do for children and seniors in need, our communities and each other. We must not let the message of this campaign die on April 30, We need to continue to tell the story of the Moose at every opportunity we have. One of the best ways is to get involved in your community. Attend events and fundraisers and volunteer your time. Let s finish the year with a bang and complete the year with a gain in membership across the board. LOOM, WOTM and Moose Legion had gains last year and I know that as a team we can do it again. Each member of the Moose is important, each contributes what they can and we appreciate everything they do. Some rise above this with a regularly active role in their lodges, chapters, legions and association not asking what s in it for me, but what can I do to fulfill my obligation of membership: supporting the programs of the Moose and building its defending circle. Those that rise above are to be congratulated for their efforts, for going the extra mile, for their Loyalty. These are the ones that roll up their sleeves and accept the challenges making things happen. I want to thank you for what you do for our children, seniors and our Fraternity. Fraternally, Robert L. Hall Assistant Territory #10 Manager MD-DE-DC Moose Association
