As summer approaches the weather will permit us to have activities outside. Some suggestions might be the Farmers Market, Concerts in the Park, Art Exhibitions, Venetian Festival, and boat rides. We aim to please, and your opinion matters to us. So, please make your suggestions known to Barb and we will make every effort to add them to our calendar. We encourage all of you to stay active in ways that bring enjoyment to your life. Remember, for outings that require transportation, seating is limited, so don t forget to sign up early in the office. Just a reminder: when going outside, wear your sunscreen. Horse Races Entertainment Marta s daughters, Esther, Marga, and Sue shared their talents with a great musical performance in honor of their mother. Not only did they perform, but they also brought cupcakes and a cake for all to enjoy. Thanks for letting us share in your mom s day. Hospice of Michigan offers a free wellness clinic the second Tuesday of each month. They offer a free blood pressure check. The clinic is open to the public and is held in our library at 1:00pm. Check in at the office for assistance. Residents enjoyed racing their horses by rolling the dice. They were optimistic that their horse would win! During intermission residents enjoyed refreshments. Because it was Cinco de Mayo, the special drink of the day was Margaritas. It was a double celebration day and fun was had by all. A good time was had by all. Their travel agenda takes them to Florida, Washington, D.C., and then they return to Michigan. The University of Michigan Men s Glee Club, founded in 1859, is one of the oldest collegiate choruses in the United States. They are touring the United States to celebrate the University s Bicentennial Anniversary. Ev enjoys playing bingo during game night. She takes delight in interacting with the other residents and participating in the fun. For an entertaining evening, come join Ev and the other residents.
6 7 Mother s Day Tea We honored the Mothers of American House Charlevoix by hosting a special Mother s Day tea. To see more pictures from this celebration, visit our FACEBOOK page: American House Charlevoix. Having fun with new friends and friends from long ago! Sharing a special afternoon celebrating Mother s Day! Fascinating Strawberry Facts By Brian K. Rosso, M.S., R.D. The Michigan strawberry season will be here before you know it. I hope you enjoy the following facts about this delicious fruit. Eight strawberries provide only 45 calories, 140 percent of the RDA for vitamin C and three grams of fiber. One strawberry contains about 200 seeds. Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds found on the outside instead of the inside. The only way to harvest strawberries is by hand. The largest strawberry ever picked was half a pound. Historically, strawberries represent peace and prosperity. The average American eats 4.85 pounds of strawberries annually. Strawberries offer the most flavor when eaten at room temperature. Strawberries are a member of the rose family. Birds are responsible for the spread of strawberry seeds across the country. Belgium offers a museum dedicated entirely to strawberries. Visit an American House today and enjoy some strawberries. Save the Date Father s Day Dinner Our Culinary staff will be serving a delicious dinner to celebrate Father s Day. We will be enjoying BBQ ribs smothered in our secret sauce. If you would like to join your father for this delicious dinner please RSVP by June 10th with the office staff. R.O.M.E.O. Luncheon Attention all men of American House, Tuesday, June 13th, is your day to go out and enjoy a meal together. Ted will be your escort for the afternoon. The bus will be loading at approximately 11:45 am. Please contact Barb for further information on the destination of the outing. Seating is limited so please sign up early.
