2 Speaker Biography Stephen Reischl, PT, DPT, OCS, is the owner of Reischl Physical Therapy, Inc., a private practice since 1984 in Long Beach Signal Hill, California. Dr. Reischl obtained his physical therapy education in 1977 from California State University Northridge and a post professional DPT degree in 1998 from USC. During 1998 to 2015, he held a clinical academic appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy at the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California. Along with his private practice and teaching, he has been involved in clinical research of tendon disorders of the lower extremity. Steve is known for his work on Orthopaedic Physical Therapy for the foot and ankle and has published on topics on foot, ankle and lower extremity dynamics. Dr. Reischl has lectured through many components of the APTA at the state, national and international meetings. Dr. Reischl is a member of the APTA, the Orthopaedic Section and a past president of the Foot and Ankle Special Interest Group, a component of the Orthopaedic Section. Conference Learning Objectives Learning Objectives: Define terminology unique to the foot and ankle, consistent with the Foot and Ankle Special Interest Group of the Orthopaedic Section, a component of the American Physical Therapy Association. Identify the anatomical and biomechanical components of the foot and ankle complex. Identify and understand the variability of normal and abnormal findings seen in patients with foot and ankle disorders. Understand normal and abnormal mechanics of the foot and ankle, including the effect on the entire lower extremity, in normal gait. Relate the gait cycle, kinetics, kinematics, muscle activity and plantar pressure to the use of foot orthoses to alter excessive motion, distribute pressure or attenuate shock as needed by each individual patient. Describe mechanisms for injury, healing and adaptation of tendon, ligament and articular cartilage and bone. Understand the use and value of the Self-Reported Outcome forms (SRO) related to the foot and ankle. Determine through the use of movement analysis and selected tests the possible influence the foot and ankle segments may have on proximal structures of the lower extremity and trunk. Compare and contrast the relationship between impairment findings (ICF body structure and function) and functional limitations (ICF participation and activity) as a guideline for treatment interventions. Describe evaluative tools and special tests that will assist with differential diagnoses of conditions affecting the foot and ankle.

3 Understand common pathologic conditions of the foot and ankle complex and describe appropriate evidence-based physical therapy interventions for such conditions. Discuss the use of manual therapy techniques to improve mobility of the joints of the foot and ankle Discuss the use of therapeutic exercise, movement reeducation and the use of other techniques to restore function in patients. WVPTA is pleased to provide this poster and research opportunity for faculty, students and clinicians and hope that we can broaden our knowledge through continued research and education. The posters will be on display Sunday morning during the conference from 10:15 am 11:00 am. The presenters will be available from 10:00 11:00 at their poster for Q&A/discussion. Prizes Hourly prizes will be given away throughout the lectures, as well as large grand finale prize drawings at the conclusion of the conference on Sunday. Prizes include: ski resort packages, restaurant gift cards, an HD Flat screen TV, and much more! Conference Location The Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV is located just 2 miles off Interstate 79 at exit 91 and is accessible from all major metropolitan areas within a 4-hour driving radius. Stonewall Resort is a little over one hour north of Charleston, WV and 2 hours south of Pittsburgh, PA. By car take the Roanoke exit (91) from I-79 and follow the signs to Stonewall Resort. Lodging Reservations There are a limited number of rooms being held at the Stonewall Resort at $210 single occupancy and $145 per person, double occupancy, for two attendees. This rate includes dinner in Stillwater's Restaurant, breakfast in the lecture hall, plated, sit down lunch in the banquet hall, and refreshments during all breaks throughout the course of the day. (If the conference attendee is sharing the room with a spouse/guest who is not attending the conference,

6 there is a $20.00 discount per night.) Onsite parking, in-park shuttle service, high speed internet access and WIFI, use of fitness equipment, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, excursion boat, mountain bikes, basic fishing equipment and many other amenities are included in a standard $8.00 resort fee.
