1 12th ANNUAL MANAGEMENT OF THE HOSPITALIZED PATIENT The Fairmont Hotel October 23-25, 2008 The course, chaired by Bob Wachter, covers the clinical issues most relevant to hospitalists, internists, family physicians, and others who care for inpatients. Taught by UCSF's top teachers and a stellar group of guest faculty, the course highlights recent advances and current controversies, emphasizing a cost-effective approach to common disorders. To promote active learning, the course uses a computerized interactive audience response system, and features multiple workshop sessions in five different tracks to allow for small group discussions. The course includes broad content in critical care, perioperative care, end of life care, patient safety and quality, and hospital neurology, cardiology, and infectious diseases. This course is presented by the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine, and is sponsored by the Office of Continuing Medical Education, University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. It also serves as the West Coast regional meeting of the Society of Hospital Medicine. For the first time, this year's conference is preceded by a three day Hospitalist Mini-College on site at the UCSF Medical Center. Enrollment to the precourse is limited we encourage early registration! EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES An attendee completing the Management of the Hospitalized Patient course should be able to: Describe the major diagnoses to be considered in common inpatient clinical presentations; Review a modern and evidence-based work-up for common inpatient clinical presentations; Discuss modern therapeutic approaches to common inpatient disorders; List some of the latest literature impacting the field of Hospital Medicine and how best to use it to answer clinical questions. An attendee completing the Hospitalist Mini-College precourse should be able to: To improve diagnostic and management skills in critical care through hands-on teaching and observation; To improve diagnostic and management skills in hospital neurology through hands-on teaching and observation; To improve diagnostic and management skills in medical consultation and co-management through hands-on teaching and observation. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. The 15-story hospital has 600 beds composed of two adjoining buildings, Moffitt and Long Hospitals, and includes our 180 bed UCSF Children s Hospital.
