A rosary is set for 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Second Chance SPCA No Kill Animal Shelter, 1700 J Avenue, Plano, TX , Memorials I too just read of Mary's passing in the Pitt Med mag. I first met Mary as an undergrad at Pitt. Though 1 year behind her, we were friends throughout our years together at Pitt Med School and during residency in Chicago. In fact, the main reason I went to Northwestern's residency program was because Mary was there. She was such a good friend to me and we had fun times in Chicago going to restaurants, the theater and concerts. She loved music and was excited to introduce me to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After residency, we went our separate ways to practice general pediatrics, she to Pittsburgh and me to Baltimore. Mary was a dedicated and excellent pediatrician that I admired. I am not at all surprised at her many accomplishments during her career. My deep condolences to her family. REBECCA RIBOVICH MATSAKIS, APRIL 7, 2018 I do not know if this page is still active, but just read about Mary's passing in
my Pitt Med magazine class notes. Mary and I attended Pitt Med School together and were both matched to Children's Memorial Hospital/Northwestern in Chicago for our pediatric residency. We traveled to Chicago to apartment shop together and both lived in studio apartments in the Edgewater apartment complex. Although not close in medical school, our internship and residency together cemented our friendship. Mary returned to the Pittsburgh area after residency - I stayed for a fourth year as chief resident and then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to join a pediatric practice. I retired January '17 after practicing 35 years there. Mary was a very bright woman and an excellent pediatrician, as well as a good friend during our residency years. I have thought about her often and for years we exchanged Christmas cards. I was surprised and saddened by her passing and hope you are comforted by the health and love she brought to the multitudes of children she treated. LINDA GARRISON, MARCH 31, 2018 Shock and sadness were my initial reaction to learning of Dr. Goessler's passing. It is hard to understand why good people are taken while mean, cruel people live on and on. I have lots of funny/happy memories of Dr. Goessler from our days of working together at AGH Pediatrics. She was a great physician who LOVED all children. She will be missed by many. Sue, you are in my thoughts and prayers - sincerest condolences extended for the loss of Mary. God Bless you! Dr. G. rest in peace until we meet again. KIM DIEDERICH, DECEMBER 18, 2017 DEAR SUE AND FAMILY SO SORRY TO HEAR OF THE DEATH OF MARY. SHE WAS A VERY TALENTED, CARING PHYSICIAN. NOW BOTH MARY AND GREG HOYSON, THE FOUNDING PARTNERS OF BELLEVUE PEDIATRICS ARE GONE. BUT THEY SHOULD BE PROUD OF ALL THE LIVES THEY TOUCHED BOTH PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AND CO- WORKERS. MARY WILL LIVE ON IN THE HEARTS OF MANY. OUR THOUGHTS TO HER HUSBAND AND BEST FRIEND AND SISTER SUE HELENE AND DAVID LOBAS, DECEMBER 17, 2017 My sincere condolences to bill Harold, Helen and their families. I have known
Mary since college at Pttt when she used to kindly ride me home so I wouldn't have to take two buses. She cared for all four of my children throughout most of their lives. May she rest in peace. MARY K. OLSON M.D., DECEMBER 17, 2017 She was admired for her dedication spirit and devotion to pediatric medicine and the advances and challenges she faced to treating those children She always strived to help others sometimes at the sacrifice of her own needs. She was a very kind soul and even though Mary may be gone, her memory will live on in all of us forever. She will be missed by many. Poem by Ashley Rice There are women who make things better simply by showing up There are women who make things happen There are women who make their way There are women who make a difference And women who make us smile There are women of wit and wisdom who through strength and courage make it through There are women who change the world every day by touching the lives of so many others That woman was Mary ANN NEGRI MD SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA, DECEMBER 16, 2017 A very kind lady. Many years ago she was kind enough to give me a handmade pillow. On the pillow are the letters AGH with the statement "Angels Gather Here". It's on display in my office. I think of her every time I look at it. May she rest in peace. Condolences to her family and friends. KP, DECEMBER 16, 2017 So sad to hear about Dr. Mary. My deepest prayers to The entire family. She was a true icon! ROBERTA MAKSTUTIS, DECEMBER 14, 2017 Mary was an amazing woman who was intelligent as she was kind. She was a no nonsense woman who would tell you exactly the way it was. Those who knew her loved her, respected her, and she will be missed by all SCOTT TYSON, DECEMBER 14, 2017 I learned of Mary s passing from this earthly life yesterday... my thoughts and prayers go out to her family. As many have stated already more eloquently than I could, Mary s life had wonderful impact to all of us who knew her. I had
the pleasure and honor to have practiced with Mary in Pittsburgh at Bellevue Pediatrics for ten years and largely due to her impactful mentorship, I pursued a career strikingly similar to hers. My life was and remains richer for having known her; my years of pediatric practice were more dedicated reflecting her commitment; my executive career more informed & inspired by her. We have lost a great friend, colleague and inspiration on this earth, however her legacy carries on through those who knew her. TOM LUNDQUIST, DECEMBER 14, 2017 It was my honor to have worked with and known Dr. Goessler. She will be missed by everyone but especially her patients and the healthcare community. LESLIE STOKAN, DECEMBER 13, 2017 I just don't know what to say. I am heartbroken. You were such an inspiration to me, and I will always be grateful for the short time I was blessed to know you. I'll see you again in heaven. Dance like crazy until I get there! ALICIA PRACHAR, DECEMBER 13, 2017 As many others have said, "She was an amazing women, amazing physician, amazing mentor and amazing friend." She was this and so much more. She could find the humor in situations where others could not. She was witty, warm and loved to give hugs. She would greet you with "How ya doin' chief?" She was giving of her time, advice & talents with deep caring insight. She knew everyone's name from the CEO to the janitor and could strike up a conversation with either. And, of course, she loved Walt Disney's Lady & the Tramp and her dogs. She was a legend and will be horribly missed by those who knew her. RONNIE POLLARD, MD, DECEMBER 13, 2017 The health care community has lost a wonderful physician, pediatrician and health care executive. Those of us who were privileged to call her friend, have lost a kind, fun loving, generous, giving soul- whom we will never forget. I mourn her premature passing but know that the gates of Heaven have welcomed her in. My condolences to Bill, Suzie and her family and friends. Send love and prayers your way.
RHONDA JOHNSON, DECEMBER 13, 2017 A national treasure, and powerful advocate for children and their families has died. I read Mary's obituary and my brain cannot help but think this is not real. Though I left Pittsburgh over a decade ago, Mary left an indelible mark on my heart and life. I had the honor to have been impacted by her-including witnessing her becoming (to my knowledge) one of the 1st (if not the 1st) female Chair of a Department of Pediatrics in the state of Pennsylvania. I will never forget her. Her obituary gives a bit of insight into how much of a force of nature Mary was professionally. An inspired, gifted student of medicine, she was highly trained. Her credentials are unassailable. What does not come though in her obituary is her tireless, almost superhuman passion to do right by children and their families, her fierce loyalty to her friends and family, and her enduring spirit. I am so proud of her. Mary overcame unspeakable challenges known only to a few to become a titan among pediatricians, and an undeniable leader. She knew what she wanted and, in retrospect, I would classify her as the few among us who were truly "from the future". Her vision for pediatrics and health care delivery was far ahead of her peers, but she was convincing and tenacious in her vision. The world could do better were it for 1000 more Dr. Goesslers. Those of us who knew and loved her now are challenged to use her inspired legacy to make the world a better place for children and their families. If there is a "Mount Rushmore of Pediatrics" in the great state of Pennsylvania, Mary would be etched in it. She will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my friend. MICHAEL L FORBES, MD AKRON, OHIO, DECEMBER 12, 2017 It is with such a heavy heart that I hear the news of Mary's passing. Our pasts are filled with joy and laughter and I learned so very much from her. She was an amazing women, amazing physician, amazing mentor and amazing friend. I wish I could come to the service to honor her life but unfortunately I cannot. My soul hurts for Sue, and her husband. I have you all in my prayers and thoughts. CONNI MCGORTEY MILLER, DECEMBER 12, 2017 Our hearts and prayers are with you. May God's tender mercy give you
