1 Knights of Columbus Council 7199 St. Therese Catholic Church & 2017 GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT The fraternal year has gotten off to a fast start, what with the Ice Cream Festival, the seminarians picnic, scholarship awards, Family Vocation Day, the Bright Futures Fund Watch Party, Savor and other events. I want to extend my thanks to all the Brother Knights who participated in these events. As we have always done, the Knights delivered. Every outing was a great success. Maybe the most impressive performance came at the Family Vocation Day on Aug. 18, when we served lunch to 700 people in just 35 minutes. That s 20 people a minute. We were rockin! Leaders in these events included Mike McCormick, Dan Carroll, Dave Tracewell, Ray Miller. They d be the first people to credit all the help they had. Hats off to all. The pace hasn't slowed recently. We are fresh off the annual Drive for the Developmentally Disabled (the Tootsie Roll Drive), which by the early count has been a big success. Kudos to Chairman Len Beauchamp and all the volunteers to stepped up. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the stores that supported us, Red X, Hy Vee on Barry Road, Hen House and Walmart. Another major event that requires everyone s participation is our winner-takes-all raffle. We ll sell 300 tickets, each for $50. The winner gets $5,000 and the council upwards of $10,000. You will be asked to purchase and/or sell tickets. The drawing will be Dec. 3. Please do what you can. Finally, we have been notified that the council has a new insurance field agent. His name is Jorge Orozco, and he is based in Platte City. In case you need to reach him, his number is One last note. A number of our Brothers are sick, grieving or in some form of distress. No doubt you know many others who are struggling as well. I urge you to do what you can to ease their pain. It can be through a call, a card, a visit or a prayer. Any form of acknowledgment helps immensely, and your kindness will always be remembered. Vivat Jesus, Rob Perschau, Grand Knight Bills and Communications Thank You's 1) From Vacation Bible School 2) $100 donation from Dotti Brown (checked turned over to the FS) 3) From Catholic Charities for $150 donation to Outpace Poverty event 4) From Little Sisters of the Poor for $30 donation 1) From Colleen Joyce for her scholarship 2) Brenna Killen for her scholarship Communications $200 penalty for not filing form 990EZ with the IRS. Motion Carried No Requests Financial Secretary's Report 185 dues payers this year. 53 members have not paid anything. This includes members that did not want to continue to be Knights, and we have submitted their names to Supreme. No new dues paid since last month. 294 members, 14 honorary, 16 honorary life. Still about 30 or 40 that haven t paid yet. We went through the process with these. We haven t sent them into Supreme because people said they will pay.

3 All letters have been sent out to non-paying members. Billing year and fraternal year are 6 months off. We can still go through the process on the that need to be removed. If these people are not at the Tootsie Roll drive, then let s let them go. They will match up names of non-payees with Drive for the Developmentally disabled. We don t want to have to pay per capita on people for another fraternal year. Len: Motion to give these people until October 9, and if they don t pay by them, submit the paperwork to suspend them. Dave Tracewell will contact these members. Motion Carried. First Friday Dance We had 173 students there. We were shorthanded. Fortunately, this was a very well-behaved group. We need people to chaperon this. This is our biggest fund raiser. We will use $500 from the Teen Dance fund for Coats for Kids. NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS AT THIS EVENT EACH MONTH!!!!!! None to Report Vocation Day Old Business New Business 19 is Family Vocation day. We need to cook for people. We would be cooking hot dogs. We need 12 guys to sign up for this. We need to start 9:30am, and will be done about 1:30pm. Donna Patti is skeptical that we will get that many people. It starts with 8:30 Mass with the bishop. See Dave Tracewell if you want to do this. Bright Futures Watch Party At Chancery. Carpooling to site from St. Therese. We are serving only beer and wine and helping with the cleanup. 7, volunteers to leave St. Therese around 5pm Dinner with Fr. Joe Fr. Joe is interested in going out to dinner with the Knights. His favorite night is Thursday night. We ll go to Le Bistro since it is a parishionerowned business. Global Orphan Care Portal The purpose of the Global Orphan Care Portal is to help families that fall through the cracks of government aid. They will send out an for a family in this ZIP code that has a need (e.g. bed for a kid, etc.). Supreme Convention...occurred in St. Louis. There were 2400 people there. Brad spoke to all Supreme officers. 100 bishops were there, as well as 12 cardinals. It was a good banquet. Carl Anderson threw the first pitch at the Cardinal s game. There were people from France, Mexico, Canada, Poland, and Lithuania there. We will end up with $15,000 to contribute to the State Council. Drive for the Developmentally Disabled (Tootsie Roll) Len Beauchamp is the chairman. This will occur in October. Coffee and Donuts We ve requested the 3 rd Sunday of the month ( 24) Day of Hope Foundation We will provide $500 for coats for this. It is through Platte County. They can buy the coats wholesale, so it is better to give money than coats.

4 St. Vincent de Paul Officers request $300 for now, and another $300 in January, and enough by the end of the fraternal year to qualify for a $300 rebate (about $1500) Motion carried Booklets for Second Graders Fr. Joe requests $500 for anti-pornography booklets for second graders receiving First Holy Communion. The officers recommend $500. Why do second-graders need this? Ask Fr. Joe. These booklets are age appropriate. We should probably trust Fr. Joe. However, can we see the booklets before we pay for them? Motion to donate the $500 from the Teen Dance fund carried. For audit, it should be transferred from the TD fund to the GF, and then donated. St. Therese Golf Classic Officers recommended $200 for a ½ page ad in the booklet, a sign at a hole on the course, and several weeks of mention in the weekly bulletin. Motion carried. Special Olympics Request for $250. We gave $250 last year for this cause. We have given to SO for other events this year. This is to provide training and events to participants this year. Perhaps we should use our Tootsie Roll turn-around funds We are tabling this until after the Tootsie Roll Drive Dinner with Fr. Joe Dinner with Fr. Joe at Le Bistro (maybe start doing this once per quarter) November 2 nd? Ministry Brunch 9-11 on Saturday 9/16 in the Wooldridge center. Len will attend.
