2 spring congress schedule Friday, April 5 12PM-5PM Registration (please note that registration does not open until 12pm) 1PM-2PM Nutrition and Diabetes/Johnson/58719-SD This course discusses the prevalence of diabetes in the United States, examines the relationship between diabetes and obesity, explores potential factor that contribute to obesity and discusses ways to increase awareness among patients and providers. 2PM-3PM Neuroimaging 101 for the Optometric Physician/ Johnson/50381-NO This course examines current neuroimaging techniques used in eye care, discusses indications for their use, and explains how to write appropriate orders for neuroimaging. 3PM-5PM Lids and Lashes on the Cutting Edge/Johnson/ SP This course features advanced procedures that optometrists have been performing for several years to treat benign and malignant neoplasms, cysts, hordeola, chalazia, trichiasis, blepharospasm, distichiasis, entropion, and dry eye via punctal occlusion. Lid anatomy is reviewed. An overview of the technology used in these procedures is discussed. Sunday, April 7 7AM Registration and BAUSCH & LOMB SPONSORED BREAKFAST/PRESENTATION 8AM-9AM Corneal Dystrophies and Degenerations: Diagnosis and Management/Gromacki/50934-AS This course reviews corneal dystrophies and degenerations, utilizing the presenters clear images to prepare the attendee for the CCLRT Diplomate examinations. 9AM-10AM The Science and Technology of Contact Lens Care/ Gromacki/58075-CL New advances in scleral and specialty lenses have necessitated new paradigms for cleaning and disinfecting these contact lenses. Improper handling and care can impede success with these high-tech lenses. With another solution recall last year, the US FDA has once again taken the initiative to ascertain the safety of contact lens care products. This lecturer will present highlights from her AAO presentation to the FDA Ophthalmic Devices Panel products for our newest materials and designs, including scleral and hybrid lenses with a new hydrogel coating biofilms compliance research and what is planned for the future. 10AM-12PM Pearls for Managing Keratoconus with CXL (Corneal Collagen Crosslinking)/Gromacki/59274-AS A clinical optometrist whose practice has performed over 1000 corneal collagen crosslinking CXL procedures will share her experience with the clinical management before, during, and after CXL. You will learn patient selection and education, mechanism of action, postoperative care, and optimal contact lens correction after the procedure. Contact lens designs such as conventional, hybrid and large overall diameter will be discussed for you to fit the correct lens after the conclusion of the procedure. 12PM-1PM Lunch on Own 1PM-3PM Tucson VA Residents Present: SAVAHCS Grand Rounds: Ocular Manifestations of Systemic Disease/ SD This course highlights various ocular manifestations of systemic disease processes. The differential diagnoses, optometric management, and clinical pearls to correct diagnosis will be discussed.

3 2019 spring congress speakers Mark T. Dunbar currently serves as the Director of Optometric Services and the Optometric Residency Supervisor at the University of Miami s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Dunbar has authored numerous papers, has refereed many optometric journals articles and currently writes the monthly Retina Quiz in Review of Optometry. He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is one of the founding members for both the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS). Dr. Susan J. Gromacki is an internationally-recognized clinician, educator, and author on the topics of the cornea and contact lenses. In practice for 25 years, she graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State University College of Optometry and completed a residency in hospital-based optometry with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She has presented over 600 professional lectures and publications and has served as Contributing Editor of Contact Lens Spectrum, Review of Cornea and Contact Lenses, and CL Today. She served on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, composing and overseeing the written examinations that ensure the qualifications of new optometrists to enter practice. She is one of only 11 doctors worldwide to earn Fellowship in the Scleral Lens Education Society and the prestigious Diplomate in Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies of the American Academy of Optometry. The Director of the Contact Lens Service at Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons, she received the 2018 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and was named one of the Most Notable Alumni in the 100-year history of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Dr. Spencer Johnson received a B.S. in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is currently an associate professor at the Oklahoma College of Optometry where he teaches courses in neuroscience, healthcare systems, and epidemiology. Dr. Johnson is a principal investigator in the NIH funded RAPID study to evaluate the efficacy of povidone iodine in the treatment of viral conjunctivitis. He has lectured at national, regional, and state association meetings throughout the United States and Canada. Prior to his career in academia, Dr. Johnson worked in the refractive surgery industry, and owned a private practice. Tucson VA Residents: The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), based in Tucson, Arizona is a highly affiliated tertiarycare referral system serving veterans in Arizona, surrounding southwest States, and Mexico. The eye clinic at SAVAHCS is shared jointly between optometry and ophthalmology, which provides the residents with the opportunity to manage a spectrum of ocular disease. Additionally, SAVAHCS hosts the Southwestern Blind Rehabilitation Center, which provides world class programs for visually impaired veterans from seven western states. Low vision care is provided in both a comprehensive multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient setting. Dr. Jennifer Chan is currently an Ocular Disease/Low Vision optometry resident at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Tucson. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University in 2018 and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong, and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of fourteen. She enjoys traveling and exploring food places. Dr. Johnson Co is currently an Ocular Disease/Low Vision optometry resident at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California in 2018 and his Bachelor s degree in Sociology/Media Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in Dr. Co grew up in southern California and collects boards games. Dr. Analysia Delgadillo is currently an Ocular Disease/Primary Care resident at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Sierra Vista. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry in 2018, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Wyoming in She enjoys spending her free me with friends and family. Dr. Ryan Dugan is currently an Ocular Disease / Low Vision Rehabilita on optometry resident at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Tucson. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in 2018, and his Bachelor s degree in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon in Dr. Dugan is an Oregon na ve and enjoys hiking and camping. Dr. Corom Eisley is currently an Ocular Disease/Primary Care optometry resident at the Southern Arizona Veteran Affairs Health Care System in Sierra Vista. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry in 2018 and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Boise State University in Dr. Eisley grew up in Nampa Idaho, and enjoys outdoors ac vi es including hiking, fishing, and camping, and enjoys spending me with his wife and four children. Dr. Shraeya Mehta is currently an Ocular Disease/Low Vision optometry resident at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Tucson. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2018 and her Bachelor s degree in Human Biology from North Carolina State University in Dr. Mehta enjoys cooking, traveling, listening to NPR podcasts, and spending me with friends and family.
