2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Once again our annual PHF evening was a great night with a good turnout and lots of fellowship. Congratulations to David for his sterling effort and thanks to Ann for the table decorations. We re extremely fortunate on the Gold Coast to have had two years of DGs and having Sandra share our evening with us makes the presentation all the more memorable. The RI Council on Legislation meets every three years to consider changes to the policies that govern Rotary International and its member clubs. This year s Council accepted an increase of US$1 per year in per capita dues, removed limits on e-clubs, permitted satellite clubs, and changed the name of the Fifth Avenue of Service to Youth Service. This from New Generations which was deemed to be not as well understood as Youth. Importantly for many Clubs and of particular interest to us is the decision to approve a measure allowing participation in club projects to count toward club attendance requirements. The measure amends the Standard Rotary Club Constitution to require that a member attend or make up at least 50 percent of regular club meetings or engage in club projects for at least 12 hours in each half of the year, or a combination of both. Great news indeed. Next week we look forward to a presentation from the Somerset students on their trip to Borneo which be very interesting. See you next week. 3 2 visiting Rotarians. Reports: David reported - Harold Bush sent word that last Saturday when we sold raffle tickets at the SUNS game, we raised the most raffle money raised so far. Hugh - thanks to those showing up to sell tickets. Particularly Gary and Michelle Wachter - Gary invited Michelle to sell tickets for their wedding anniversary and they were both asleep by half time (he better do better next year!) Tina gave a brief report on the Boonah Assembly. It was very informative and a fabulous opportunity to meet and discuss projects with Rotarians from different clubs. A plea was made for more to attend the Rotoract Trivia night at the Arts Centre. Peter Overell kept us on our toes for carousel duty. Sergeant: Peter Overell made sure the coffers overflowed: Paying up were: Tony Stenton medication from his operation tipped the brain balance he woke up with a tick tock clock cut the power cord with scissors and froze the house. Michael and Roz they ve celebrated their 43 rd wedding anniversary. Tony Pritchard in absence (who paid this one?) overseas and it s too cold for the boat so they abandoned it and headed to the south of France. Mira Gardner has shrunk 1 cm in 12 months but then who hasn t? A fine for anyone who had snow with lunch in the Grand Canyon (and the moral is?) Jenny Hobart for having below par lunch on their cruise. Peter Hobart for selling their house at auction. Don Knight and Lambert for a mix up as to who was chairman. Duncan, our banker, had to pay because we had an interest rate cut. We all got fined under those who do and do not have debt (hardly fair that one!). No badges cost us. David Randall had a little money left for the pot before heading to Bali. Lionel Perry caravan or car? Anyone who didn t surf in the last month we all got caught. Pay if you want to look at Tony s new knee. Who wasn t on either the carousel or the SUNS last week? Tina copped it for reading instructions that said she had to get her gear off if she wanted a drink at the SUNS. Don Dinneen dobbed Peter O in for going the wrong way. David Randall pointed out that Tony S had the wrong USB for photos for the awards. Peter O explained that Lambert needs to look at his s more often to keep up. Graham cross fined Peter O for an episode with his car keys. Tony S made it to Rotary walking on bionic legs after only 3 weeks. Congratulations go to: Anthony Hopkins joined the club in Instigator of the purchase of Rosie s Van. Greg Dux joined on 3 March Gail Dinneen although not a club member, Gail was recognised for her support by the presentation of a sapphire pin. The first safari is to the Birdsville races, leaving Brisbane on September 2 nd 2013 and returning September 10 th. Those who attend will undertake cooking for the masses and assisting with the cocktail party. The off-road mobile kitchen will be taken to do the cooking and everyone needs to provide their own accommodation. Sites are first in best dressed and will start to fill a week prior to the event. More information can be found on their website: The e-club safari committee has signed a five year partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service to do work in the outback. This is a very exciting opportunity for Rotarians to make a difference to those who live and work in some of the more remote parts of Australia. Rotator 14May 4
