2 Page 2 Successful College of Dentistry Booth at Johnson County Fair During the Johnson County Fair, volunteers at the College of Dentistry booth gave out more than 2,800 toothbrushes, along with toothpaste, magnets, and brochures. They also generated a lot of good will and awareness about dental care at the College. There was lots of positive feedback about the new displays. The College s soda pop display continues to be a favorite with many people returning the next day to show the exhibit to family members. One visitor, Ryta Piper, told fourth-year dental student, Majd Haddad, Those dental students did a great job. Look at me! 3 Page 3 Quad City Middle School Students Visit the College of Dentistry Students from St. Ambrose Summer Camp check to see if their molds are ready. A group of 26 middle school-aged students from the Quad City area visited the College of Dentistry on Wednesday, July 28. The students were participating in a week-long Health Careers Adventure Camp that was hosted at St. Ambrose University in collaboration with the Area Health Education Center. Current dental students shared stories about their backgrounds, related how they became interested in dentistry, and answered questions from the visitors. The campers were given an opportunity for hands-on experience by taking impressions and pouring models, and they also toured the building. Instruction and guidance were provided by junior dental students, Katie Motz and Matt Drescher, and sophomore dental students, Matt French, Karl Kohlgraf, and Maddie Walter. For additional photos, see page 4. Maddie Walter (D2) stands by while two of the visiting campers are ready with an impression tray. Katie Motz (D3) demonstrates use of the vacuspat. Hardin Library Announcement The Hardin Library will be closed this fall during UI football Saturdays (home games). Our 24-hour room will be available to those who need a place to study or use computers and printing.
