2 WELCOME This program guide will provide you with information regarding memberships and descriptions of our programs offered. You may also check out our website at: OUR MISSION To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. 3 MEMBER SERVICE MEMBERSHIP CARDS All new members will receive a bar-coded membership card which they are required to scan each time they enter the Y facility. If lost, the cost is $1 for a replacement card.. DAY PASSES Non-member guests who would like to use the facility are required to pay for a day pass and sign in at the front desk. Guests are expected to follow all rules set for members. LOCKER ROOMS AND LOCKS For your convenience, lockers are available in the locker rooms for daily use. We strongly recommend you bring a lock to secure your personal items. Lockers are available to members to rent for a monthly fee - please inquire within. AGE GUIDELINES Youth under age 8 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or be participating in a YMCA program while in the facility. Ages 8-13 must be accompanied by a legal guardian in the Wellness Center areas and have completed a fitness center orientation. For safety measures, children under the age of 8 may not enter the Wellness Center; children ages 8 to 13 need to complete a fitness orientation prior to using the Wellness Center. Ages 8 to 13 must also be accompanied by a person of at least 18 years of age. We are a participating agency with the following fitness programs: All children under age 8 must be supervised by a parent/guardian while in all areas of the facility. Please refer to our Child Watch program for additional options. 3

4 HEALTHY LIVING Join the Y and utilize the Wellness Center! Sign up for a FREE Fitness Orientation which is available to all adult and young adult members. To use the Wellness Center, youth 8-13 yrs old must complete a Fitness Orientation and have a parent present in this area during use. Fitness Orientations may be arranged at the Front Desk. NOTE: Children under 8 yrs are not permitted in the Wellness Center or in Group Exercise Classes. See our Child Watch options on page 8 for alternate options for children under age 8. RACQUETBALL COURT In addition to our Wellness Center, Free Weight Room and other program areas, the Harrison County YMCA features a racquetball court. Members and guests may reserve the court for a fun and energetic game of racquetball. YMCA Members FREE Non-Members Day Pass Fee If you have any questions concerning our Wellness programs, contact our Wellness Director at or via to bearhart@harrisoncountyymca.org NEW exciting classes are offered throughout the week - FREE with your Y membership! Our instructors focus on creating a warm atmosphere where all fitness levels are welcome. Classes are subject to change - be sure to check the current class schedule at the front desk or on our website. Non-members must purchase a day pass to attend classes. Note: some classes have limited capacity for participation. SILVER SNEAKERS A low-impact cardiovascular workout exercising on and around a chair. This fitness class includes working with light weights, resistance bands/ tubing, abdominal crunches and more! TAI CHI A slow-paced, graceful, low-impact form of exercise which can improve balance, increase flexibility and mobility, improve health, quality of life and psychological well-being, as well as decrease pain, fatigue and stiffness. 5 GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES TRX - TOTAL BODY RESISTANCE TRAINING This leveraged body weight exercise builds power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility and helps prevent injuries. Choose your intensity! Saturdays 8:00-8:45am 12/10, 12/24 & 1/7 *Class limited to 10 participants CARDIO H.I.I.T. No Tuesday/Thursday will be the same as the last. Weights, toning, TRX, bands, balls, bikes, tabatas, intervals, plyometrics, kickboxing you name it, we do it here! Come prepared to sweat and work hard. You ll never be bored-we promise! Tuesdays & Thursdays Wednesday 8:15-9:15am 8:00-9:00am STEP & MUSCLE CHALLENGE One hour of exercise designed to give participants a safe and effective cardiovascular workout through moderate choreography. Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-7:00pm ZUMBA Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music-dance with routines that feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow dance steps to tone and sculpt the body. Good for any fitness level. Tuesdays & Thursdays 11:00am-12:00pm BUTTS & GUTS Back by popular demand, this class is a half-hour of strength training for the core muscle groups in the abdomen and back. Emphasis is based on proper alignment and breathing techniques for a safe and effective workout. Exercises are also included to strengthen and tone the buttocks and hamstrings. Session ends with stretching exercises. Thursdays 5:30-6:00pm COMING SOON!!!! INDOOR CYCLING An interval cycling class held on stationary cycling bikes. Choose your own resistance while you sprint, jump, climb and race your way to the finish line. 5

6 YOGA POWER YOGA This flow style yoga class focuses on using specific postures to build strength, flexibility, and balance. A challenging body and mind workout using breathing and mindfulness for a complete yoga experience. Sculpt a leaner, stronger body while releasing stress and fatigue. Mondays 6:00-7:00pm YOGA This flowing yoga class is ideal for members with health concerns or for beginners. Increase flexibility and vitality in a format that emphasizes gentle yoga postures and proper breathing. Wednesdays & Fridays 11:15 am-12:15 pm Mondays & Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm at Days Inn YOGA FLOW Perfect for the seasoned student or new yogi. Improves strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance as we move through a variety of yoga poses. Become more aware of your body and breathing! Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am at Bridgeport Days Inn *Class limited to 30 participants WELLNESS COACHING Let our personal trainers be your coach with a structured, personalized fitness program and help you achieve your goals! Our trainers will give you the support and motivation you need to commit yourself to a healthy lifestyle. Sessions are flexible to fit your schedule. SINGLE SESSIONS: Fees for Individuals: YMCA Members $30 for 1 hour Non-Members $40 for 1 hour BULK PACKAGES: Fees for Individuals: Buy 5 one hour sessions, get the 6th hour free! 7 AQUATICS PROGRAMS SWIM LESSONS-Winter Session II ONLY Preschool Swim (Ages 3-5) As the first experience in the pool without parental assistance, the child is taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming. They also learn about pool safety and the use of personal flotation devices. During this one hour class, participants are divided into skill levels. Saturdays 9:15-10:00am YMCA Members: $35 Non-Members: $52 Youth (Ages 6-12) This class is based on a logical, multi-level progression that helps children of varying abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. Saturdays 10:00-10:45am YMCA Members: $35 Non-Members: $52 Private Swim Lessons These lessons are taught by specialized and caring YMCA swim instructors using the guidelines of the YMCA swim lesson program. Clients of ALL ages are taught based on their needs, abilities, circumstances and goals. YMCA Members: $25 per hour Non-Members: $35 per hour Lifeguard Certification Don t delay in getting your lifeguard certification! This course includes lifeguard certification, First Aid, CPR and AED training. A holiday course will be offered over Christmas break. Monthlong courses will be offered January through May. 8 AQUATICS WINTER SWIM TEAM - HAYST The Harrison Area YMCA Swim Team (HAYST) is a competitive program that focuses on the development of swimming skills for ages HAYST swimmers compete in meets within the tri-state area of WV, PA and OH. The swimmer s YMCA membership must be active for 30 days before registering for a swim meet. Practice Times Younger Group (ages 4-10) Older Group (ages 11-18) Monday-Thursday 4:30-5:30pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30-7:30pm Friday 5:30-7:00pm Tuesday & Thursday 5:30-7:00pm Saturday 7:00-9:00am Saturday 7:00-9:00am Monthly Drafts First Child Second Child Third Child + 2 days per week $45 $35 $ days per week $55 $45 $35 6 days per week $65 $55 $45 WATER FITNESS WATER AEROBICS CLASS Join our instructors for a complete body workout using the water as resistance. The class is a combination of cardio, strengthening and toning with little impact on the joints. Morning Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday 8:30-9:30am Evening Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00-8:00pm AQUA ZUMBA CLASS Just add water and shake! Zumba in the water is a whole new level to experience! 9 SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE CREATING BRIGHTER FUTURES SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE (SACC) Our NEW School Age Child Care, for ages 5 to 12 years, provides a safe and structured environment with many activities to keep your child busy and focused. Some of the activities your child will experience while enrolled in the SACC program are: Homework time Arts & crafts Games Gym time & play opportunities Outdoor activities Nutritional component Child care is available Monday through Friday, before and after school. We also provide all-day care for scheduled school closings PLUS weather-related delays and closings. WE ACCEPT CHOICES! Before School Care: 6:00am - school start After School Care: school dismissal - 6:00pm We have two locations to serve your needs: Nutter Fort Primary/Secondary School Adamston Elementary School SACC FEES: Before AND After School: $80 per week per child Before OR After School: $65 per week per child Financial assistance may be available to those who cannot afford YMCA fees. Please call or stop by the YMCA for an application. If you have any questions relating to our Child Care Programs, contact our Program Director at School Age Child Care is a state licensed child care. PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS PRESCHOOL SPORTS CLASS The parent and child will work together to learn skills of the sport. It also provides social interaction with the child s peers in a relaxed, yet structured atmosphere. For ages 3-5. Thursdays 6:00-6:45pm Members: $29.00 Non-Members: $40.00 Session I - Floor Hockey Session II - Soccer 9

10 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT KARATE PROGRAM All levels of Chi-Do-Kwan Freestyle Karate are taught at the Y. The Introductory students learn the basic stances, blocks and kicks used in the ancient art form. The class helps develop concentration, coordination and agility, as well as building a greater self confidence. The Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Class continues skill development while learning basic Kata, Free Sparring and Self Defense techniques. Introductory Class Ages 6-8 Tuesdays 5:45-6:30pm YMCA Members: $30 Non-Members: $40 Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Class Ages 9 & up Tuesdays 6:30-7:45pm YMCA Members: $30 Non-Members: $40 Fridays 6:15-7:30pm YMCA Members: $30 Non-Members: $40 FENCING & CLUB TRAINING En garde! Participants receive the benefits of sharpening mental discipline and engaging in physical activity, while learning about a sport with centuries of history and tradition. The course covers safety and conditioning, as well as fundamental techniques, footwork, strategy and rules. Participants must provide own equipment - rental equipment is available at the Y for an additional fee. Ages 10 and up Thursdays 7:00-9:00pm Fees: $40 per participant per session 10

11 YOUTH COMMUNITY GARDEN The Harrison County YMCA Youth Community Garden created under a grant from the Whole Kids Foundation had a successful first year. The children learned about planting, growing, weeding, harvesting and preparing foods from the earth. So many people were involved with the care of the garden. It truly became a community event. In the spring we will implement an irrigation system and begin the plans for planting. If you would like to be involved with this project, call the Y or stop by! CELEBRATION PLACE This is a 52-week kid-friendly curriculum using kid-friendly methods in terms children can understand. Celebration Place gives kids hope for all the amazing things God has in store for them, truths that help them overcome life s challenges by learning to lean on Jesus, joy as they embark on a wonderful year long journey of songs, games, videos, impactful experiences and great conversation and friendships with other children. This program is a collaborative effort between the Y, Celebrate Recovery and The United Methodist Temple Church. The Celebration Place dream is to put Celebrate Recovery out of business by breaking the cycles of dysfunction in our families John Baker. Activities are held at the United Methodist Temple Church on the corner of Sycamore and Locust in downtown Clarksburg. Mondays 6:00-7:30pm Dinner is at 6:00pm, followed by a Celebration Place Lesson. 12 BIRTHDAY PARTIES Make your child s birthday fun, exciting, and memorable with a birthday party at the Harrison County YMCA! Parties are held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons during regular operating hours. The two-hour time frame includes one hour in the pool first, followed by an hour in the party room. Maximum number of attendees for each party is 20. After-hours parties and Lock-Ins are available - please inquire within for special pricing. YMCA Members $55 Non-Members $85 Dates and times are based on availability and must be scheduled at least one week in advance. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is due at time of reservation. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of the party. Full fee must be paid before the date of the party. To schedule your child s next birthday party at the Y, call us to reserve a date and time TODAY! CHILD WATCH Our YMCA has a pleasant environment for your children ages 6 weeks to 8 years old in our Child Watch room. While you work out, your children are cared for by our qualified staff. 6 weeks - 8 years old Monday through Friday Monday through Thursday 8:00am 12:00pm 4:30-8:30pm NOTE: Child Watch is free for Harrison County YMCA members and $1.00 per child, per visit for non-members. Hours are subject to change at any time. Parent or guardian must be in the YMCA facility during Child Watch participation. 12

14 VOLUNTEERING Do you wish to see the Y reach new heights? The YMCA is founded upon the principles of volunteerism to achieve our mission in our community that we serve. Volunteer opportunities are available all year to utilize your time and skills to help the Y achieve its goals. Common volunteer opportunities include: Youth Basketball League Referees Scorekeeping for Youth Basketball Leagues Help with special events and fundraisers held throughout the year Routine daily cleaning and maintenance in the facility Youth sports class instructors Youth enrichment programs To explore volunteer opportunities, contact any member of the management team at the Harrison County YMCA! 15 SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY YMCA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The YMCA works to ensure that regardless of ability to pay, we make it possible for everyone in the community to participate in our programs and activities. For that reason, our Y has a scholarship program to make our programs and activities more affordable. In previous years, the Y awarded over $150,000 in membership and program subsidies to those who could not afford the fees. If you believe in the mission of the Y and you believe in how the Y can help individuals and families in our community with improving their health, then please consider a donation to the Harrison County YMCA Annual Support Campaign. The Annual Support Campaign is our yearly drive to fund the scholarship assistance program. One hundred percent of the money donated goes directly to the benefit of children, adults and families in our community.
