2 PAGE 2 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 9, ISSUE 7 Brothers, Grand Knight s Letter Our fraternal year has come to a close; I want to thank all the Brothers who gave their time and talent towards the successful completion of so many worthy programs. Bishop Flaget Council was awarded the State Deputy Award for exceeding the designated programs in the following categories: CHURCH, FAMILY, COMMUNITY, YOUTH, and COUNCIL We participated in the RSVP program contributing $500 each to Brother Jay Blandford and Sister Marion of the Sacred Heart. Our charitable collections for the disabled were recognized as having the second greatest percentage increase from the previous fraternal year. Our Brothers and spouses worked hard with our Tootsie Roll campaign at churches and a road block. Just recently, in June, there were three programs which warrant recognition: ASCENSION PARISH SUMMER FESTIVAL spearheaded by PGK Dale Anderson, THE REPAIR AFFAIR by Dick Scherrer, AND THE ST. ALBERT PICNIC coordinated by Dennis Welch. A special thanks to these Brothers and the many volunteers who came forward to help. I am looking forward to another successful fraternal year in The next major program for the new year is the annual Indian Summer Camp cleanup scheduled for July 11th. Please contact PGK Greg Gitschier to let him know you and family members will participate. His is: gitsch@msn.com, his phone number is: July is also our Council Officers installation ceremony and dinner. You and your spouse are invited to attend this important event. The installation is Saturday July 25th at the 5 PM mass at St. Albert the Great Church. Please join us for a group mass with the installation to follow in the Church. 3 VOLUME 9, ISSUE 7 Bishop Flaget Flyer PAGE 3 Insurance Matters A Guaranteed Investment w/ 70% Increase in Business Our annuity business is doing well up about 70 percent over last year. Why now and not all of the time? What is it about market downturns that cause people to suddenly think that they need a position that includes a stable guaranteed product like a K of C retirement annuity including IRA s, Roth IRA s, and 401k rollovers? Doesn t the market always turn down sooner or later? So why not establish a guaranteed alternative to balance those swings? If one looks at market history in either the Dow Jones, S&P 500 or NASDAQ, they will find that the overall historical annual rate of return is very close to our annuity rate history. Over the past 10 years, we have actually well-outperformed these market averages (-1.38% for them, 4.57% for us, according to our Chief Investment Officer). So why not invest this with the Knights where you get a minimum guarantee? As a side note, we also screen our investments so that we are NOT investing with any companies that support abortion, embryonic stem cell research, or any other items that would conflict with our Catholic beliefs. We also have not even talked about the tax-deferred status of us. Diversifying is a good thing. The Knights take care of your conservative part of your portfolio. An agent can even put together a FREE financial planning report for you and your family to determine what percent of your income would be good for your goals. Your financial foundation can be built with the Knights. So call your agent today to get started. Daniel R. Turnwald Kentucky General Agent daniel.turnwald@kofc.org
4 PAGE 4 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 9, ISSUE 7 Ascension Summer Festival Brothers from Bishop Flaget Council staffed the food tent at Ascension Church Summer Picnic. We served about 750 people fried fish, brats, chicken tenders fries, corn dogs and many other food items. We received many compliments and no one got sick! The crew worked hard but had a lot of fun serving the parish. The crew deserves recognition for a job well done. Thanks to everyone for helping make this a success. PGK Dale, Sandra & Jen Anderson; Greg Gitschier, PGK; Terry & Patty Luckett; Jerome Pascua and his father Alex; Charlie & Darleen Rhodes; Don & Vicky Schweinhart; Don & Cathryn Stuart; Chuck Durbin, Mike Hord, Mike Lally, Matt Sanderfer s dad Bud and Dennis Welch. Also helping the entire evening were friends John & Denise Walsh; Matt Sanderfer s brotherin-law, Donna Jackel, along with many others. Dale Anderson PGK Brothers and wives worked on Friday and Saturday night at the Vegas Booth at St Albert s Summer Picnic. Among those working were PGK Dale Anderson, Lonnie Brown, Chuck & Joann Durbin, Lou & Joann Hafenbreidel, Mike Hord, Mike Lally, Ed Miller, Charlie & Darleen Rhodes, GK Bob & Liz Rucinski, Don and Cathryn Stuart, Dennis Welch and Dan Wetzel. They were joined by parishioners Al and Mary Jo Burke. Everyone had an enjoyable time in spite of the sweltering temperatures. The beer was cold and the food was good. Thank you all for helping to make it a success. Dennis Welch St Albert the Great Vegas Booth Deadline for submissions for the August Newsletter July 24, 2009 My database is not perfect.
