Their commitment and dedication to our club and Rotary as a whole has been outstanding. Their Audiology Project will be a lasting legacy as we head into the future. I would also like to thank Bill for his support in my role as membership chair. Bill has attended most of meetings and his encouragement has been much appreciated. I have to admit that at first, I was reluctant to take on the role as President. The reason for this was that I have only been at the club for just over three years and I felt that I am still learning about the many aspects of Rotary. Furthermore, there are many members that have been in the club a lot longer than myself who have the necessary experience to take on the President s role. However, I have taken this all on board and want to ensure members that the L Plates are firmly on and I am ready to go. Since I started at Rotary, I have been very keen to promote our club in the local community. The reason for this is if Rotary is to survive long term then clubs must focus on programs and partnerships in their local community. Whilst we have been doing this quite successfully for some years now we must ensure we further seek out people and organisation in our community who we can help and assist. If we are continually seen out in our community the more we are likely to attract new members. We have put together what I believe is a very strong Board with a great deal of experience in Rotary and I am looking forward to working with them. I will also be meeting with President Elect Anne Wheeler ( and hopefully the PE after Anne) on a regular basis to discuss goals and objectives for the long term Page 1 of 7

2 I am also looking forward to working with District Governor Russell Gurney and his management team. I have met quite a number of Russell s team and they are dedicated people working and ensuring Rotary clubs are supported and successful. Yes, there are challenging times ahead in Rotary, no one denies this, with membership retention being a major issue. Our club has a great tradition of making people feel welcome and inclusive and as President it is my responsibility to ensure this continues. I fully support the new programs that are being introduced into Rotary, such as earlyact, interact, and satellite clubs. I hope to oversee the introduction interact and earlyact into our club during the year and investigate if we have any groups that may like to have a Rotary satellite club in their organisation. Judy and I are looking forward to the President s year and hopefully it will be rewarding and enjoyable for all members. MORE ITEMS FOR DIK Another Ute and Trailer load of various donated goods were delivered to DIK on Tuesday 3 rd July and includes the following: 16 crutches/walking sticks and 1 new Walker, Donated by

3 boxes (84) knitted baby suits, donated by Anne Welsh (Elderly lady s group), 3 Bags of various linen and Clothing, donated by the Hewitt Clan.

6 MORE ITEMS FOR DIK Another Ute and Trailer load of various donated goods were delivered to DIK on Tuesday 3 rd July and includes the following: 16 crutches/walking sticks and 1 new Walker, Donated by Mr Jim Lynch of Croydon. 4 large boxes of various wooden toys, donated by Mt Evelyn Men s Shed. 3 boxes (84) knitted baby suits, donated by Anne Welsh (Elderly lady s group), 3 Bags of various linen and Clothing, donated by the Hewitt Clan. 1 second hand working computer etc, donated by Gail & Craig Turner, Mooroolbark Another pallet of curtain materials from Dollar Curtain & Blinds was also delivered to DIK, also the supply of cloth materials for the various Boomerang bag groups has almost reached capacity at the Hewitt s Distribution warehouse. So how many sewing machines are there in the Rotary Club of Lilydale??? These wooden toys are going to Timor Leste where most homes don t have smooth carpet surfaces or concrete in the yard. These toys are perfect for children to play with in the dirt. The toys are made by participants at the Mooroolbark Mens Shed. Page 6 of 7

7 The rolls of curtain fabric in Tim s shed grows ever bigger. Tim and I did an hour on community radio on Wedneday. Host, Allan Collier, himself a Rotarian runs a two hour Commumity Connections Program. Lilydale RCL is invited once a month to talk about our Club. It s actually quite easy to do as Allan breaks up the hour with music every 7 minutes or so. FELLOWSHIP Fellowship Committee is meeting this week to hold its Planning Program so I m sure there will be lots of social activities to report next Bulletin. EXCHANGE STUDENT Philipp Woedl, our exchange student from Germany, arrives in Melbourne on 28 July. He will be a guest speaker on Tuesday 28 August at our dinner meeting. Page 7 of 7
