Programs Half-day MCLE Program The Half-day MCLE Program is a half-day event designed to provide in-house counsel attendees with a minimum of 3 hours of substantive legal programming that is eligible for Illinois MCLE credit on one overall topic (e.g. international law, M&A) or a series of topics (e.g. in-house mini-conference, in-house primers, hot topics). Half-day MCLE Programs must include in-house counsel moderators or panelists, unless the ACC Chicago Vice President-Programs approves an exception. Half-day MCLE Programs take place in either the morning or afternoon and should include one meal for attendees. Sponsors may consider providing afternoon programs followed by an appropriate period for networking and hors d'oeuvres. Dinner/Evening MCLE Programs Evening programs (excluding ACC Chicago Socials) must include a 1-hour substantive legal program that is eligible for Illinois MCLE credit and should include an in-house counsel moderator or panelist, unless the Vice President-Programs approves an exception. An evening program includes dinner, should formally end no later than 7:15 p.m., and be preceded by a 1-hour networking and cocktail reception, unless the Vice President- Programs approves an exception. 5

6 Lunch MCLE Programs Lunch programs must include a 1-hour substantive legal program that is eligible for Illinois MCLE credit and should include an in-house counsel presenter. Lunch programs include a lunch and should not last longer than 1 1/2-hours. Repeat Programs: As an additional benefit, Sponsors at the Platinum, Gold or Silver level may offer an evening program in a Chicago or suburban location AND the same program in an additional location within 48 hours of the initial program. The additional program may be breakfast, lunch or dinner, at the Sponsor s option. Sponsors at the Bronze level may offer a repeat of the same lunch program in an additional location within 48 hours of the initial program. The additional program may be a breakfast or lunch program. ACC Chicago Socials (Platinum and Gold Sponsors Only) An ACC Chicago Social is a social and networking event that includes cocktails and hors d'oeuvres (or a meal) or a show, an exhibition or a sporting event that provides an opportunity for networking and socializing. ACC Chicago Socials are very popular and successful program events, whether held on a stand-alone basis or following a substantive legal education program event. ACC Chicago Socials may be scheduled to begin at a time approved by the Board. Platinum and Gold Sponsors may choose to present an additional lunch or dinner CLE program in lieu of a Social or sponsor a Community Outreach Program in lieu of a Social; please consult with the Vice President-Programs for details. Annual In-House Counsel Celebration Dinner The Annual Dinner is a large reception and dinner featuring a nationally or internationally prominent figure as a Keynote Speaker, attracting audiences ranging from attendees. The event includes a VIP Reception (Invitation Only), a General Reception (held concurrently with the VIP Reception), a dinner, presentation of the Thurgood Marshall Award of Excellence, a brief introduction by the ACC Chicago President that includes recognition of Sponsors and Honored Guests, and the Keynote. ACC Chicago held its 1 st Annual Celebration Dinner in September 2005, and featured Hon. Madeline Albright as the Keynote Speaker. Subsequent Dinners have featured Ben Stein, former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, James Carville and Mary Matalin, Malcolm Gladwell, Juan Williams, Cokie Roberts, Walter Isaacson, Steven Levitt and Dan Rather as the Keynote Speakers. The Annual Celebration Dinner is traditionally slated for the fall, but may be scheduled for later in the Program Term depending on retention of the Keynote Speaker and other logistical considerations. While ACC Chicago will sell tables (as well as individual seats) at the Annual Dinner, only Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Annual Dinner Level Sponsors will receive recognition as 2016 ACC Chicago Sponsors and guaranteed seating. ACC Chicago may select an Annual Dinner event coordinator, who may or may not be a Sponsor, to assist with the event logistics and materials and ACC Chicago may recognize such coordinator for contributions. Community Outreach Events ACC Chicago sponsors events through which its members can give back to our community with the assistance of Platinum and Gold sponsors. ACC Chicago is proud to sponsor two important pipeline programs, Street Law and the Law Student Diversity Summer Internship Program. ACC Chicago sponsors a program with Street Law through which in-house counsel conduct legal workshops in Chicago and suburban (Elgin) public high schools in an 6

7 effort to allow diverse, underserved high school students to explore legal topics, role play and develop interest in the law as a career. In connection with the Street Law program, Platinum Sponsors will have the opportunity to host a teacher training session for either the city or suburban volunteer in-house counsel or the day-long conference with the volunteers and students, both of which involve providing conference facilities in Chicago or the Elgin area and a box lunch. ACC Chicago also runs the Law Student Diversity Summer Internship Program, which places first-year law students in Chicago-area in-house legal departments to expose students to the practice of law from an in-house perspective. In addition, the program offers both individual and group mentoring programs centered around learning the soft skills that are critical to success in today s professional world. In connection with the Internship Program, Platinum Sponsors will have the opportunity to coordinate social events and career development seminars with the interns and host corporations. Hosting a Board Meeting Platinum and Gold Sponsors have the opportunity to host one Board meeting. During each meeting, the Sponsor is given the opportunity to share information about their firm or a particular practice area. Typically, the Sponsor will provide a light dinner for Board members. Other Events It should be noted that there are a few remaining one-off programs to which ACC Chicago has previously committed that may be periodically scheduled during the Program Term. In addition, we may from time to time agree to co-sponsor events with other organizations. However, any one-off event sponsors will not be recognized as 2016 ACC Chicago Sponsors and will not receive the full package of benefits that this Sponsorship Program provides. Guidelines for Programs/Events Program Term All programs, meetings or other receipt of Sponsor benefits must occur during the Program Term, which runs from March 1, 2016, to February 28, Scheduling of Topics and Event Dates Sponsors are requested to submit possible topics with their applications and to rank their preferences for substantive legal program topics from highest to lowest. Sponsors may also propose for consideration by the Board additional program topics not listed on the Proposal. Sponsors who turn in Proposals earlier will have significant priority in choices of event dates. Priority for program dates also depends on the level of sponsorship. In addition, unless an exception is approved by the Vice President-Programs, a program event must occur on a Tuesday or Thursday. Unfortunately if, despite reasonable efforts by ACC Chicago to schedule an event, a Sponsor does not schedule its event during the Program Term, the Sponsor will forfeit its opportunity to sponsor the event. 7

8 Marketing of Events ACC Chicago is subject to the privacy policy of the Association of Corporate Counsel (which can be found at and we ask for Sponsors assistance in adhering to this commitment to our members. ACC Chicago has worked to develop ACC Chicago event invitation brand recognition among its members. All invitations to members and all event registrations by members must be done by and through ACC Chicago using ACC Chicago template forms and processes unless an exception is approved by the Vice President- Programs. Invitations to events will prominently recognize the Sponsor, including distribution of the Sponsor s logo if available. In connection with all events listed in Section 4 above (except the Annual Dinner), ACC Chicago will distribute 2 co-branded invitations to its then-current list of in-house counsel members. Separately, Sponsors are strongly encouraged to invite their in-house clients, especially non-members, to ACC Chicago events and may issue their own invitations and solicitations directly to such clients as well as post the event to their website. Event Registrations ACC Chicago shall have the responsibility for receiving and handling the registration RSVPs for all events. Events are offered to ACC Chicago members and other in-house counsel either for free or for a modest registration fee. Any such registration fees collected by ACC Chicago shall remain the property of ACC Chicago. Handouts and Distribution of Marketing Materials at Events In order to provide MCLE credit, each sponsor must provide handouts to attendees. ACC Chicago reserves the right to use and distribute handout materials including the right to post such materials on the ACC Chicago website. Sponsors may make reasonable marketing materials available to event attendees. However, it is our experience that in-house counsel may develop a negative impression of Sponsors and events involving direct marketing. A Sponsor s highest return is best achieved through quality presentations highlighting the Sponsor s substantive expertise and networking. Accordingly, for the benefit of ACC Chicago as well as our Sponsors, we must strictly prohibit Sponsors from engaging in direct marketing and business solicitation at any event. In addition, in the event Sponsors obtain ACC Chicago member information (unless voluntarily provided directly to Sponsor), Sponsors are strictly prohibited from using such information for any purpose other than in connection with approved invitations to ACC Chicago s membership for the Sponsor s program event. In order to promote an appropriate atmosphere, except for a Chapter Social, a Sponsor is requested to consider the recommended ratio of members to sponsor 10:1 when inviting members of the Sponsor organization to the event. Event Costs Except for the Annual Dinner, Sponsors are responsible for proposing a venue and paying all expenses associated with their event, including those associated with meals, drinks and venue. A Sponsor may request ACC Chicago to assist with venue proposal. Sponsors should arrange for the production and printing of all program handouts and the preparation of nametags for attendees that include the ACC Chicago logo. 8

9 Tips MCLE Accreditation ACC Chicago is an Illinois MCLE Approved Provider. Our Chapter Administrator will supply you with all necessary paperwork for your CLE program and be responsible for submitting the program to the Illinois MCLE Board. The Administrator will provide support for attendees to file MCLE in other states, but ACC Chicago does not routinely file outside of Illinois. Suggested Program Topics ACC Chicago will gladly assist Sponsors with developing programs to help maximize their attractiveness and effectiveness for both ACC members and Sponsors. ACC Chicago members are interested in a wide variety of topics. Sometimes unique topics can have a great deal of appeal because members know the program is not likely to be available again soon. As you consider program topics that showcase your firm s areas of particular expertise, we strongly suggest that you include an in-house client as a panelist to provide a practical in-house perspective. It is also helpful to discuss, management or practice tools such as litigation management and metrics, accounting for lawyers, executive relations or other information that will help members avoid pitfalls and deliver services to their corporate clients efficiently, promote the value of in-house services, influence the practice of law as it affects the in-house bar, and deliver a mix of relevant, timely services including information, education, networking, and advocacy. No matter the topic, however, ACC Chicago members seem to favor programs that include practical hands-on advice or tools, such as templates or checklists. In fact, each sponsor must provide a handout as the Illinois MCLE Board requires this for MCLE accreditation. Venue/Special Events In-house counsel are bombarded with opportunities for MCLE. Our experience is that the ACC sponsorship model and programming results in higher quality MCLE programming and greater response rates than non-acc sponsored events. Even so, we have found that sometimes sponsors who offer a little something extra obtain an even better response rate. When hosting an event, especially a social, you may be able to increase attendance by holding the event at a hot new restaurant, a museum, or in connection with a sporting event, show or other special event. Please keep in mind ease of access to parking and public transportation. Submitting Your Sponsorship Proposal Sponsor Proposal Submissions The deadline for submitting Sponsor Proposals ( Proposals ) is 5:00 p.m. on December 11, 2015 for inclusion in ACC Chicago s overall review of 2016 Sponsorships. All Proposals must be returned to ACC Chicago via only to Chicago@acc.com. Time is of the essence. It is in your best interest to submit your proposal as soon as possible. You may submit immediately and indicate that topic ideas will be submitted under separate cover (by the submission deadline). ACC Chicago reserves the right to consider Proposals submitted after the deadline, but will assign low or no priority to such Proposals. Those who submit Proposals on time will be notified on or about January 22, 2016 as to whether their Proposal has been selected, and full Fee payment is due to ACC Chicago no later than February 19,

10 Proposal Evaluation The review, consideration, award and decline of all Sponsor Proposals will be done by and in the sole discretion of ACC Chicago. ACC Chicago will consider the applicant s willingness and ability to present a MCLE program on topics of interest to in-house counsel, as well as to be a valued top quality Chapter Sponsor, the applicant s creativity in proposing an event, the applicant s ability to work closely and effectively with the ACC Chicago Board, the date of Proposal receipt, and the overall quality of the Proposal. Once Sponsors are selected, ACC Chicago will prioritize program selection, preference of program dates, prominence of Sponsorship listings, Annual Dinner seating, and other Sponsor benefits, based on Sponsorship Level, ranging from Platinum (highest) to Annual Dinner (lowest). Due to the overwhelming demand for ACC Chicago Sponsor spots, we will have to strongly adhere to our available spots published on page 3 of this packet. By attending the Events, your employees and the speakers you recruit for sponsored events understand and agree that they may be included in the photographs, videos and/or recordings. You will inform them that by attending they hereby irrevocably consent to and grant ACC, ACC Chicago Chapter and their agents, representatives and licensees, all rights to use and publish for promotional and internal purposes in all media, now known or hereafter developed, their name, statements, quotes, biographical data provided by them to ACC Chicago Chapter, image, likeness or voice, in whole or in part, and to copyright any materials created. They hereby waive any right to inspect, approve, or be compensated for use of any materials incorporating such images and information obtained during the Events.
