Send to: Lion Patti Gauch H: C: bygoneacres@cebridge.net Dear Lions, We are nearing our 100 th anniversary of service because Lions like you have made a commitment to growing your clubs and serving your communities. Over the past year, you have strengthened your club by inviting friends and neighbors to join you in service. But inviting new members is just the beginning. The key to long-term membership growth is keeping your members happy. There's no better way than keeping your members engaged in service it's the reason we became Lions. To make sure your club experience remains satisfying, give all members opportunities to lead, share their ideas and identify service projects that are important to them. Inviting and retaining new members go hand in hand. That's why the Centennial Membership Awards recognizes clubs for inducting and retaining new members. Encourage your Lions to invite for impact today, then focus on membership satisfaction to keep members coming back year after year! Protect Our Environment in April One of the best ways to keep members satisfied is to engage them in service. This April is Protect our Environment month, so consider planning an environmental project for Earth Day on April 22, or plan projects throughout the month to help the environment in your community. From planting trees to organizing a park cleanup, there are countless ways to get involved. Start planning your project today by downloading the Protecting our Environment Planning Guide and 25 Environment Project Ideas and sharing them at your next club meeting. And consider inviting friends and neighbors to serve with you! Sincerely, Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada Your International President Get the Keys to Membership Satisfaction Want to learn more about increasing member satisfaction in your club? 2 From Your District Governor - DG Bob Allgood Hello Lions of 13D. I would like to thank everyone for making the District Convention a success. Friday and Saturday nights entertainment was outstanding. International Director Jerome Thompson had a very good time meeting people. I again request that you continue asking one - invite to Impact not only to help grow your club stronger but also build your community stronger, for new Lion brought into your club - 50 people will be impacted. Again Cub Robbie, Lion Liz, and I would like to thank Tom and Nancy Kirkbride, East Liverpool Lions Club, the presenters for the Forums, and everyone who I may have missed. Yours in Lionism. DG Bob Allgood Greetings Fellow Lions, From Your First Vice District Governor - FVDG Betty Robbins Thank you fellow Lions for the many cards, thoughts and prayers last month when my mother passed away. Your outpouring of love and concern for me was truly remarkable! I love you all! As we know, the Centennial Service Challenge is in full swing, and we are trying to Serve 100 million people before June 30, 2018 in the categories of Youth, Vision, Hunger, and Environment. As of March 9 th, LCI has reported we have served 77 million people worldwide: 24 million in Engaging our Youth, 12 million in Sharing the Vision, 15 million in Relieving the Hunger, and 19 million in Protecting our Environment. We have almost reached the 25 million mark, which LCI was hoping to reach, for the youth category, however; we will not stop there, we have another 2 years to this Centennial Service Challenge and the Youth category and the others will continue to grow! How is your club participating in these programs and are these activities being reported to Lions International by your secretary by way of MyLCI? LCI wants us also to consider doing a Centennial Community Legacy Project that is a visible gift to the community? What can you do in your community? Can you replace your old, bent and discolored Lions signs, with new brighter ones? Or can you provide for park benches and water fountains? What else might you do to show your community what we Lions do? We need to continue to invite friends and acquaintances to join our clubs and Strengthen Our Pride. Let s make Governor Bob s year a success in membership! Yours in Lionism SVDG Betty Robbins 2

3 Greetings, Lions of 13D, From Your Second Vice District Governor - SVDG Wayne Christen Well, we are only 3 months away from becoming OH4. To commemorate the event, I purchased new license plates with "MD13OH4". (Also, at my age, it helps me remember the new name) I am looking forward to the merger and expect great things to come from it. I continue to make visitations, and am on schedule to have them completed by the end of June. I am also attending zone meetings and charter nights. Invitations from other districts have been accepted to attend their conventions. That should be very enjoyable as well as informative. Our MD13 convention this year is shaping up to be another great one. Hope to see many of you in Dublin for that. We should all be gearing up to increase our membership. Only 3 months left to get 2 new members for each club. Is your club on schedule? See you in Dublin, Yours in Lionism, SVDG Wayne Christen 3

8 PROPOSED MD13 SIGHT AND HEARING FOUNDATION The MD13 Sight and Hearing Committee developed a proposal for the formation of a MD13 Sight and Hearing Foundation and submitted the proposal to the current MD13 Council of Governors (COG) at the November, 2015 COG Meeting. At that meeting the COG passed a motion that "gives their full approval and support for the MD13 Sight & Hearing Committee to establish the MD13 Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, an incorporated 501(c)3 charitable branch of the Sight and Hearing Committee, to meet the needs of MD13 clubs and districts in meeting the publics' needs for sight and hearing services." The next step in making this new foundation a reality is for club delegates to pass the following resolution on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the 2016 Ohio Lions State Convention: The Lions Clubs of Ohio fully support the creation of the Ohio Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation to serve as a resource to the Lions Clubs of Ohio to help their communities by helping individuals with their vision and hearing needs through medical care, screenings, service activities, charitable donations, or other means that may arise. With a majority vote by the convention delegates this foundation will be able to use the Lions name and brand to help a club further its service to their community. Many clubs receive requests for help purchasing hearing aids, paying for vision therapy, or out-of-pocket costs for eye surgery and other vision needs but for most of Ohio's Clubs these costs are beyond their financial resources and go unmet. This proposed foundation will permit other Ohio Lions clubs to provide the same vision services already available to our District 13-D clubs and will not interfere with or change the vision services currently provided by our Melvin Jones District 13-D Lions Eye Care Foundation (ECF). Our ECF will continue to solicit support from our district clubs and provide services for the residents of our district as we have in the past and will in the future. The new proposed MD13 Foundation will provide hearing services and our ECF is considering providing those services as part of our ECF, our only district service project. Both our District Governor Bob Allgood and I, as your District 13-D representative to the MD13 Sight, Hearing & Pilot Dogs Committee, are recommending passing this resolution at the 2016 State Convention and are asking that District 13-D club delegates at the Convention vote to create the Ohio Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. PDG John Woodside, District 13-D Representative Sight, Hearing & Pilot Dogs Committee The New Struthers Lions Club will be holding their Charter Night on Saturday, May 7th at The Struthers VFW Hall on 157 Lowellville Road in Struthers at 6:00 PM. Speaker for the event will be PID and current candidate for 3rd. International VP Steve Sherer. More information will be forthcoming in the form of invitations.
