2 UCSF RADIATION ONCOLOGY UPDATE: MANAGEMENT OF RECURRENT DISEASE This course will address the optimal radiotherapeutic and multi-disciplinary management of recurrent cancers. Updates on the most advanced technology in stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy and hyperthermia and their application to recurrent disease will be highlighted. Course attendants will able to treat patients more effectively, and counsel patients and their families as to the most currently available treatment options. TARGET AUDIENCE The course is intended for a national audience of practicing radiation oncologists. Content is targeted to enhance delivery of state-of-the-art patient care., CA April 30 - May 2, 2010 ACCREDITATION The University of California, School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: Define the major treatment options for locally recurrent cancers of the breast, prostate, head and neck, brain, and gynecologic malignancies; Improve practice by applying the appropriate imaging techniques to diagnose recurrent cancers; Understand the indications, contraindications, pros and cons for using IORT, cyberknife, brachytherapy or hyperthermia modalities for treatment of recurrences; Identify where combined systemic therapies or systemic therapies alone may be preferred over re-irradiation; Describe the biology of recurrence and future potential therapies.
