2 UPDATE IN ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY AND ARRHYTHMIAS This one-day symposium is designed to review and update concepts related to ECG, interpretation and arrhythmia management. This course will focus on advances relating to the ECG diagnosis of pericardial and ischemic heart disease and the role of drugs, devices, and catheter ablation for patients with cardiac arrhythmias. In addition, the role of newer devices for management of patients with heart failure will be presented, focusing on arrhythmia mechanisms, newer drugs, and advances in device therapy for these patients. Designed to meet the individual needs of the participants, there will be small group workshops for those with basic knowledge, as well as for those with advanced knowledge in these areas. Intended to meet the needs of practicing clinicians, this conference is targeted to internists, clinical cardiologists, nurses, and those working in intensive care units or electrophysiology laboratories. This conference is presented by the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, and is sponsored by the Office of Continuing Medical Education, University of California, San Francisco. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: Accurately incorporate ECG in diagnoses and treatment of patients with ischemic heart disease; Improve analysis of atypical ECG, prolonged monitoring and exercise studies; Achieve improved management of patients with atria fibrillation and incorporate device therapy for congestive heart failure. The Stanford Court, ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians: UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Klein is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, London, ON, Canada. Dr. Klein s research focus has been in cardiac arrhythmia with contributions to the natural history and management of the Wolff- Parkinson-White syndrome, the operative and ablative management of arrhythmias and the understanding of clinical syncope. He is the inventor of the implantable loop recorder (Reveal rx). He is deputy editor of the Journal of Pacing and Electrophysiology, Associate Editor of Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology and is on the Editorial Board of seven scientific journals. He served on the Test Committee for cardiac electrophysiology of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) from 1996 to 2005 and was Chair of the Committee from 2000 to He was the 2003 recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award of the North American Society for Pacing and Electrophysiology (now known as Heart Rhythm Society ).
