4 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Pearls Friday, April 13 Course Schedule, Topics, and Faculty All conference sessions at the JW Marriott on Canal Street, facing the French Quarter Friday Saturday, April 13-14, :00 am - 8:45 am Registration and Continental Breakfast 8:45 am - 9:00 am Dr. Eric Geist, Opening Remarks 9:00 am - 10:30 am Surgical Pearls for Implant Restorations Dr. Dan Spagnoli, Moderator Dr. Mike Block, Speaker Dr. Block will present several methods that can be used to augment the ridge, improve soft tissue stability and quality on esthetic restorations, improve efficiency when delivering full-arch provisionals, and correct some interesting implant adverse events. At the conclusion of this presentation, the attendees should be able to 1) use tunneling for ridge augmentation, 2) augment a concave ridge with particulate material with minimal morbidity, 3) perform a simultaneous socket graft and CT graft to an esthetic site, and 4) diagnose and treat a failed implant site in the esthetic zone. 10:30 am - 11:00 am Break 11:00am - 12:00 noon Current Concepts in Bone Grafting for Implants and Reconstruction, Part I Dr. Mike Block, Moderator Dr. Dan Spagnoli, Speaker Dr. Spagnoli will discuss implant surface nanotopography and how that surface interacts with bone as a construct and attachment surface. The lecture will cover how implant-mediated stress and strain lead to crosstalk to osteoblasts that is mediated via the extracellular matrix and specific cell receptors. This lecture will also explain the mechanisms by which implants maintain the implant bone interface. 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm Lunch 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Current Concepts in Bone Grafting for Implants and Reconstruction, Part II Dr. Mike Block, Moderator Dr. Dan Spagnoli, Speaker Dr. Spagnoli will continue his discussion on current concepts in bone grafting, focusing on principles of de novo bone regeneration and the application of those principles to alveolar bone regeneration for implants. 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Diagnosis and Non-Surgical Management of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) Dr. John Kent, Moderator Dr. Henry Gremillion, Speaker The majority of patients experiencing arthrogenous and/or myogenous TMD can be managed effectively by using reversible, non-surgical approaches. Recent advances in the understanding of pain pathophysiology involving the masticatory system provide scientific rationale for development of case-specific plans of management that may involve physical, pharmaco-therapeutic, and/or psychological components. This presentation will provide information regarding non-surgical management considerations and outcomes. 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm Cocktail Hour at the JW Marriott

5 OMS Pearls Saturday, April 14 8:00 am - 8:30 am Continental Breakfast 8:30 am - 10:00 am Cosmetic Office Pearls for OMS Dr. Myron Tucker, Moderator Dr. Jon Perenack, Speaker Over the past five to ten years, numerous advancements in conservative techniques for facial rejuvenation have arrived in the United States. This lecture will discuss the newest options available for clinic-provided facial revolumizing, including hyaluronic acids, calcium hydroxyapatite, poly-l lactic acid, methyl methacrylates, and free fat transfer. Skin rejuvenation and muscle modulation with neurotoxins will also be discussed. Appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning with follow-up and complication management will be detailed. 10:00 am - 10:30 am Break 10:30 am - 12:00 noon Ambulatory Anesthesia Pearls Part I: Case-based Review of Techniques and Complications Dr. Likith Reddy, Moderator Dr. Stuart Lieblich, Speaker The provision of ambulatory anesthesia is a vital component of the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Patient evaluations, medications, and determining patients amenable to treatment in an office setting will be discussed. Throughout the program, Dr. Lieblich will review actual case scenarios to illustrate various issues. Included in the discussions will be recommendations on local anesthetic use and integrating oral sedation into an oral surgery practice. Pearls will include dealing with the anxious pediatric patient, pre-emptive analgesia, and avoiding medical errors that can adversely affect an OMS practice. 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm Louisiana Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Business Meeting and Lunch 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Maintaining a Full Scope Surgery Practice in the Current Healthcare Environment Dr. Myron Tucker, Moderator Dr. Brian Farrell, Speaker There has been a dramatic decline in the number of orthognathic surgery cases as a result of decreasing reimbursement from insurance providers and escalating healthcare costs. Healthcare changes have affected and continue to affect all aspects of our daily practice. Maintaining a full scope surgery practice requires constant effort and resources to stay in front of these changes. Preserving the volume of major surgical cases will require a diligent pursuit of available insurance coverage, frequent delivery of care in an office setting, and efforts to control cost so treatment remains affordable. The delivery of safe, efficient, cost-effective anesthesia and surgical services in an office environment will aid in maintaining the volume and scope of our oral and maxillofacial surgery practices. 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm Ambulatory Anesthesia Pearls Part II: What Can the SimMan Teach Us? Dr. Likith Reddy, Moderator Dr. Stuart Lieblich, Speaker Dr. Lieblich will continue his discussion on ambulatory anesthesia pearls, focusing on lessons we can learn from the SimMan. 3:30 pm Dr. John Kent, Closing Remarks
