Wellness Center: 11 to 14 years of age must complete orientation Free Weights: 15 years old Sauna: 16 years old All Group Exercise Classes: 13 years old Child Watch: 6 weeks to 7 years Pickup Adult Basketball: 16 years old Financial Assistance Policy No person shall be denied membership or program participation by reason of inability to pay. Funds are provided through the We Build People- Campaign. Please stop by the front desk for a financial assistance application. Payment Options Annual Payment - renewal yearly Automated Monthly Payment - via bank draft for continuous membership (advanced notice required to terminate) Joining Fee The YMCA of Greater Erie charges a joining fee in order to provide a source of funds for enhancing membership services. This fee is non-refundable and may be paid in full upon joining or paid in three monthly installments through our bank draft system. A lapse in membership for more than 90 days may require payment of the joiner fee. Corporate Fitness Program The YMCA believes that healthy employees help make a company healthy. 3 Active Older Adults Silver Sneakers This program is offered in partnership with select health plans at no additional cost to Medicare eligible members. Check with your insurance company for eligibility. Group Exercise Classes Silver Sneakers I - Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Have fun and move to the music through a variation of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Tues/Thurs 9:15 am YMCA Healthy Back If you re troubled with back pain, you re not alone. This problem affects over 70% of all adults at some time in their lives. You can now learn how to overcome those back problems. You will understand the causes of back pain, exercise the core muscles associated with strengthening the back, and discover ways to reduce pain when it occurs. Tues/Thurs 8:30 am Senior Coffee Hour Come and enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation with your fellow YMCA members. Mon - Thurs 10:00 am Older Adult Assessments These assessments are offered throughout the year. Nine tests are used to evaluate balance, agility, flexibility, walking endurance, and strength. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. See the front desk for more details. Senior Outings A great opportunity to have a day out with friends. Luncheons, speakers, and bus trips are offered throughout the year. See the front desk for upcoming events. Senior Aqua Exercise This class is held at the Legion Outdoor Pool on Fairway Drive in Edinboro. The class is held in the shallow water and exercises will focus on strength and endurance activities, balance work and target ADLs (activities of daily living). Begins June 8. Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings are offered the second Tuesday of every month from 9:00am-10:30am in the Wellness Room. Registration Policy YMCA Members do not need to register for group exercise classes. We have a drop in policy for all YMCA members. Certain classes may be limited due to space or equipment limitations. Mon., Wed. & Fri. 10:00am Page 2
4 Health & Fitness Ready To Be Fit Program One size does not fit all!!! Individualized fitness training is just one component of this holistic program. We include spirit, mind and body components in the program and it is designed for the beginner exerciser. Your certified Wellness Coach will help design a program that will fit your needs and provide encouragement for you to work on your own. Orientation to the cardiovascular and strength training equipment is included. Enroll at the front desk to set up your initial appointment. FREE to all YMCA members. Polar BodyAge Fitness Assessments The Polar BodyAge System is more than a fitness assessment. It is a whole new way of showing you how healthy you can be. The assessment takes into account a number of health and fitness markers including your strength, flexibility, and percentage of body fat, nutrition, cardiovascular fitness and more to calculate the fitness of your body. The system provides you a BodyAge and a complete fitness program to reach your obtainable BodyAge. Enroll at the front desk to set up your appointment. FREE to all YMCA members. Zumba Zumba Fitness was created in the mid-90 s by Columbian native Alberto Beto Perez, a celebrity fitness trainer and choreographer for International pop superstars. Inspired by the traditional cumbia, salsa, samba, and merengue music he grew up with, Beto paired his favorite pulsating Latin rhythms with the red-hot international dance steps his clients loved and Zumba Fitness (Spanish slang for to move fast and have fun ) was born. 1st & 3rd Tues Thurs. Wed Tues Child Watch 9:15am 9:15am 12:15pm 6:30pm A safe play area. Plenty of smiles. YMCA staff will supervise your child while you work out or participate in a program. This service is provided FREE to you to ensure the active use of your YMCA membership. The service is open to youth ages 6 weeks to 7 years of age. 5 Health & Fitness cont. Basic and Brief A 10 week beginner, basic class. A small group will work for 40 minutes, two or three times weekly utilizing free weights and exercise ball. Before and after internal/external measurements are taken. Sign-up at the Front Desk. Classes begin May 31. Tues/Thurs 6:30pm Cost: YMCA Members FREE Non-members: 2 days $60 Women on Weights A women s only strength training class. This six week program will teach participants the proper use of free weights and machines to achieve balanced muscle development. The class is a small group set up. Sign-up at the Front Desk. Classes begin May 31. Tues/Thurs 9:00 am Cost: YMCA Members FREE Non-members: 2 days $50 Group Exercise Classes Pick up a current schedule of classes at our front desk or go to and click on schedules under the County branch. Hi/Low Floor Aerobics A great floor aerobics class choreographed to music for both a cardiovascular and strength workout. Aerobic Kickboxing Cardiovascular workout combining boxing, kicking, and extreme power moves. Basic Step Aerobics Emphasis is on basic step movements. No previous step experience necessary. Although this class is at a beginner and intermediate level, advanced participants will still get a good workout. Step Aerobics This step class has more challenging choreography and arm movements than basic step. Basic step knowledge is very helpful, but not completely necessary. Step Interval This class uses timed segments alternating from aerobics (step and hi/lo aerobics) to muscle conditioning activities. Muscle conditioning segments may include Resist-A-Balls and hand weights. Y Pump This class focuses on muscle strength using weighted bars and hand weights to help tone and shape the body. Urban Rebounder This challenging aerobic class utilizes small individual trampolines for a no impact workout. Resist-A-Ball This class utilizes large exercise balls to improve muscle strength, balance and coordination. Pilates This mind-body exercise class focuses on strength conditioning of inner core muscles. It is for anyone who wants to tone, streamline and realign their body. Multi-Level Hatha Yoga This class covers stretching, basic postures (asanas), alignment, flexibility, balance, and strength. All postures are adaptable for beginners to advanced. BOSU Using the BOSU Balance Trainer, you will improve your torso strength and body alignment through exercises that target abs & low back muscles. Page 4
6 Youth Sports Iddy Biddy Sports (4&5 Years Old) *Formerly Mighty Mites The County YMCA is committed to providing a fun, educational first sports experience for your child. Our Iddy Biddy Sports program will introduce your child to the games, rules and fundamentals of sports. Our program also concentrates on teaching sportsmanship, positive competition and building positive relationships between participants. Iddy Biddy Sports Clinic This six week class will help develop fundamental soccer, basketball and tee ball skills. All the basics from dribbling to shooting as well as goalkeeping, catching and hitting will be covered. The class is 45 minutes in length. Class begins June 6. Mon 10:15 am Hot Tots Sports Clinic This six week class for 3 year olds will teach very basic skills in the sports of soccer, basketball and tee ball. The class is 30 minutes in length. Class begins June 6. Non-Member $50 Mon 9:30 am Youth Sports Philosophy The County YMCA Youth Sports philosophy is, everybody plays, everybody wins. In our leagues children will work on individual skill development, learn how to work as a team and be introduced to sports specific team strategies. All of our youth sports programs are lead by caring and supportive volunteer coaches. Youth Volleyball Camp Girls ages 9-12 will be taught proper form for: setting, bumping and spiking. They will learn the rules of the game and strategies of the game. They will play a variety of games/drills throughout the week that will place an emphasis on skills taught. The camp will take place at the County YMCA gymnasium. Camp runs June Fees: YMCA Member $25 Non-Member $50 Mon. Thurs. s 10:00am-12:00pm TEEN GIRLS SPORTS CLINIC This 9 week course will cover fundamental skills in soccer, basketball and volleyball. Each sport will get a three week concentration.. Girls ages Clinic begins June 23. Fees: Member $30 Non-Member $60 Day Thurs 10:00am Youth Flag Football Camp Participants ages 6-14 learn how to: catch, throw/pass and flag tackle. There will be a variety of fun drills that will reinforce skills taught (i.e. flag tag; working on flag tackling). Throughout the week the participants will also be taught 4-6 receiving routes (button hook/curl, post, slant, 5 yd out, etc.). Each participant will have a turn in leading their team as the quarterback. Camp held at Edinboro Elementary little league fields. Camp runs August 1-4. Fees: YMCA Member $25 Non-Member $50 s Mon. Thurs. 10:00am-12:00pm Friday Rain Make Up Day NFL FLAG Football This NFL sponsored flag football program is for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The season involves practice and games. Each participant will receive an official NFL FLAG jersey and flag belt. Practices and games held at Darrow fields on EUP campus. Season runs August 17 to October 8. Registration deadline July 31st.. Fees: YMCA Member $20 Non-Member $70 Practice Wed. or Thurs. Games on Saturdays s 5:30-8:00 pm Page 5
7 Youth Tumbling The tumbling program will help teach the fundamentals of tumbling, which give an important foundation for learning more complex tumbling skills. Skills such as rolls, handstands, cartwheel, round offs, walkovers, and the beginning stages of back handspring will be taught. Tiny Tumblers Sing, dance, tumble and giggle. Games and songs will teach your preschooler new ways to move. All activities geared for parents and preschoolers to do together. Open to children ages 1-2 years old. Class begins May 28 & July 16. Non-Member $50 Sat 10:30 am Kinder Tumbling This class teaches basic mat skills for strength, flexibility and technique, including gymnastics and movement education. Open to children ages 5-6. Class begins May 28 & July 16. Sat Tumbling Tots This class teaches basic mat skills for strength, flexibility and technique, including gymnastics and movement education. Open to pre-school children ages 3-4. Class begins May 28 & July 16. Sat 12:00 pm School-Age Tumbling This class teaches basic mat skills for strength, flexibility and technique, including gymnastics and movement education. Open to children ages Class begins May 28 & July 16. Sat (Adv., Ages 6-14) 1:00 pm 11:15 am Cheerleading It's time to dance, cheer and learn creative moves. Boys and girls, it's time to step to the beat! Basic cheerleading skills such as jumps, tumbling and cheering routines will be taught. Ages Class begins May 28 & July 16. Sat Art & Gym The Art and Gym program combines an art project with gym time. Each portion of the class is 15 minutes in length. Open to children ages 3-5. Class begins May 31st.. Tues 1:45pm 10:30 am Youth Fitness Orientation Youth ages 11 to 14 who wish to utilize the fitness center equipment can participate in this program. Youth will be taught the proper technique and form on strength equipment, cardiovascular equipment usage, and basic fitness principles. Participants will be tested to assure their understanding of the concepts. Youth must complete this orientation to utilize the fitness center. See the front desk to schedule an appointment. Page 6
8 Youth cont. & Teens Summer Day Camp & Kinder Camp Open to grades 1-6. The YMCA of Greater Erie specializes in safe, affordable and convenient child care for kids of all ages and interests. Y day Camps provide an atmosphere that strengthens kids by reinforcing the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Breakfast, lunch and snack provided. Before & After School Program Our before & after school program is for children who attend Edinboro Elementary and Parker Middle School. The program is state licensed and is Keystone STAR 4 accredited. Activities include gym time, computer time, homework help and other fun things. Transportation provided. Meals and snacks are included. This program is offered to children in K through age 14. YMCA membership is not required. Registration for Fall is going on now. We follow the same program as our after school program. Meals and snacks are included. This program is offered to children in K through age 14. YMCA membership is not required. Our program is a Keystone STAR 4 program for ages 3-5 years old. The purpose of the program is to prepare children to enter Kindergarten. This program utilizes the Creative Curriculum which includes gym time, art, science, math and computers. Snacks are included. YMCA membership is not required for this program. Mon - Fri Mon-Fri 9:00-11:30 am 12:30 3:00pm YMCA Childcare The County YMCA offers a complete Early Care and Education program designed to meet the needs of both parents and children. Our program is state licensed and Keystone STAR 4 accredited. Our program follows the Creative Curriculum which includes manipulatives, science, music, dramatic play, reading centers and computers. All meals are included. This program is available to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. YMCA membership not required. This program is held at Early Learning University on Darrow Road in Edinboro. The YMCA swim team will build selfesteem, discipline and responsibility. The swim team competes locally with the opportunity to advance to district, state and national events. Everybody swims, everybody wins. Season runs June 13 through July 28. Must be a YMCA member.
