2 2006Postgraduate Course in General Surgery March 23-25, 2006 The Marines Memorial Club and Hotel San Francisco, CA EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Presented by the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, the practicing surgeon will be brought up-to-date on the latest developments in General Surgery. Special features for this year's course are two Meet the Professor luncheon sessions and a Surgical Video Section. This clinically oriented course offers General Surgeons an intensive overview of problems encountered in daily practice. It would also be of substantial value in preparation for board and recertification examinations. The emphasis this year is on new information and surgical techniques concerning breast diseases, colorectal surgery, pancreatic neoplasms, endocrine surgery, trauma and critical care and evidence-based perioperative care. Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to Identify and diagnose, understand the pathophysiology of, and treat surgically: Breast Cancer Endocrine Tumors Esophageal Dysmotility Pancreatic Neoplasms Colorectal Tumors and Fistulas Vascular Access Describe New Technologies in Surgery Discuss Innovations in Trauma Care ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 19 AMA Physician s Recognition Award category 1 credits. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity. Nurse Credit For the purpose of recertification the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA category 1 credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. Pain Management and End-of-Life Care The approved credits shown above include.25 credits toward meeting the requirement under California Assembly Bill 487, Pain Management and End-of- Life Care for physicians licensed in California (except radiologists and pathologists) to complete 12 hours of continuing medical education in pain management and/or end-of-life care by December 31, Geriatric Medicine The approved credits shown above include.25 credits toward meeting the requirement under California Assembly Bill 1820, Geriatric Medicine for internists and family practice physicians licensed in California to complete 20% of their ongoing mandatory continuing medical education if their practice is comprised of a patient population of which 25% is aged 65 years or older. Trauma The approved credits shown above include 2.0 credits toward satisfying the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma requirement for trauma-related continuing medical education.
