1 Lions 5SE Roaring Good News - August Lions of South Dakota District 5SE From District Governor - Dennis Van Asch Just imagine if everyone of the 1,425 Lions in District 5SE asked one person to join their club. Imagine the huge impact it would have on membership growth and the amount of service we can provide. It starts by inviting one friend, one neighbor, or one family member to join. Give them the opportunity to be a Lion and give your club the opportunity to grow and thrive with new ideas for service. Our focus is on service, but our strength is directly tied to our members so ASK ONE, ASK TWO, ASK 3 and let s see our strength grow. some of you have received your copy. Others will be sent by mail. If you don t receive you copies in the next week or two, please let me know. District 5SE received a grant from Lions Club International through Multiple District 5 to be used for public awareness and it was decided last spring to use it to buy public service announcements and have them distributed to radio stations. They will be starting to air these spots in the Aberdeen, Sioux Falls and Yankton areas. Thanks to Steve and Marge Kaiser and Sunshine Cady for getting this completed. I would like to get most of my visitations done by December so if any club has a date you would like me to visit, please let me know. If I don t hear from your club, I will be contacting each club secretary in the immediate future. Congratulations to the Groton Lions Club. At my visitation on July 17 th, I inducted 10 new members and installed new officers. A big LIONS ROAR for the Groton Lions Club who went from 10 members a little over a year ago to over 30 members in a very short time. Also congratulations to the Sioux Falls Downtown Lions Club who had five new members installed when I visited on July 29 th. Congratulations goes to the Dell Rapids Lions Club who will be celebrating their 70 th anniversary on Thursday, August 7 th. The Lions directories are done and The Fall Forum is coming up on September 27, Registration will be in this newsletter. We will have a cabinet meeting at 7:00 P.M. on September 26 th. The Mitchell Palace City Lions Club will be our host this year and they promise a good time to be had by all. See you there! In the meantime-- SERVE and ASK. Jeff Morehouse Inducted as Brookings Noon Lions Club Member Jeff Morehouse (right) was inducted into the Brookings Noon Lions Club on June 30 th by Past District Governor Ray Schley (left). His sponsoring member was Lance Howard (center). Lions Clubs International is the world s largest service club. Over 1.35 million members perform community service in 208 countries and geographic areas, but share a core belief: community is what we make it. Brookings Noon Lions members furnish Kids See screenings for pre-school and kindergartner children, assist with the purchase of eyeglasses, provide a scholarship to attend SDSU, and support local programs including the Boys and Girls Club, Family Back 2 School, National History Day, Habitat for Humanity, BATA, and furnish large print calendars to area long term care facilities.

3 BRANDON Page 3 Brandon Lions Tina Heikes, George Martin, and Roy Beaird work the beverage stand during the annual Automania event in Brandon on June 28th LENNOX DIABETES White Cane Awareness Day March to be Held October 18 th Along with several community, state agencies and groups, the Lions of 5SE are again sponsoring a White Cane Awareness Day march on Saturday, October 18, 2014 in downtown Sioux Falls. The day begins at First Lutheran Church on 12 th and Minnesota in Sioux Falls with a reading of the White Cane Proclamation and Law. After the presentation, we will march (on the sidewalks) to the downtown library. opportunity to be visible as Lions and how we try to make a difference for those living with hearing and sight difficulties. Don your vest and join us on October 18 th! The program will begin at 10 AM. If you are able to volunteer, or want more information please contact Lion Robyn Tyler, at robyn.tyler@va.gov or The Lennox Lions club participated in the Ol Fashioned 4th of July parade in Lennox. This event has been traditional in Lennox for many years and draws 10,000 plus people. The Lions Club also sponsored the road race that morning and we had 425 runners participating. Immediately after the parade, the Lions Club had a food booth where food is provided to lines of people. At the library, light refreshments will be served booths will be set up to inform the attendees of the importance of the White Cane, guide dogs and other aides for people with impaired vision. Several Lions are needed to volunteer to help set up at the library at 9am that morning. Also, Lions are needed to march and possibly serve as guides to the members of the deaf/blind community who have been invited to march with us. This is also a great
