Wng, S. Cerrte, C. Coto, F. Yn nd P.W. Wldroup 2 Deprtment of Poultry Siene, University of Arknss, Fyetteville AR 72701, USA Astrt: This study ws onduted to evlute the use of moderte to high levels of DDGS in roiler diets nd to evlute the effets of rpid nd multiple hnges in level of DDGS during the growth period. Diets were formulted to ontin 0, 15, or 0% DDGS with diets formulted on the sis of digestile mino ids to meet levels typil of the U.S. roiler industry. Groups of irds were fed diets with these three levels of DDGS on onstnt sis from 0 to 2 d of ge. Other groups were fed 0 nd 15% or 0 nd 0% DDGS on lternte week sis, with one group strting with diets ontining no DDGS nd other groups strting with diets ontining 15 or 0% DDGS. Four pens of 25 mle roilers were fed eh of the dietry tretments. At the onlusion of the study five representtive irds per tretment were proessed to determine dressing perentge nd rss yield. Birds fed diets ontining 15% did not differ signifintly in live performne or rss hrteristis from irds fed diets with no DDGS, whether fed on ontinuous sis or lternted weekly etween 0 nd 15% DDGS. Birds tht were ontinuously fed diets with 0% DDGS hd signifintly redued ody weight nd feed intke t 5 nd 2 d ompred to irds fed the ontrol diet with no DDGS nd hd redued rest met yield. When irds were fed diets with 0 or 0% DDGS lternting on weekly sis live performne ws pproximtely midwy etween tht of irds fed diets with 0 or 0% ontinuously nd similr to tht of irds fed 15% DDGS on onstnt sis, ut rest met yield tended to e redued. The results of the study demonstrted the effetive use of diets with 15% DDGS when formulted on digestile mino id sis nd showed tht rupt removl of this level of DDGS did not dversely ffet performne of roilers. Further studies re suggested to quntify resons for redued performne when fed diets ontining 0% DDGS. Key words: Broilers, distiller s grins, ethnol yprodut, lterntive ingredients Introdution The priniple reson for roiler produers to selet dietry ingredients is eonomy, euse feed represents pproximtely 70% of the live prodution ost.
