3 BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement Accomplishments: 1.We have brought public awareness in the community. 2.We began our pilot program Autism Bakers for Barkers at Grace Church in Sarasota, FL in June of We have been invited to speak about Autism Awareness and our program at; Local Lion's Clubs, VFW, and have set up an educational booth at Canine Christmas, and Mixon's Fruit Farms at their Business Expo. Top goals for the coming year: 1.We are looking to expand into Manatee County, and expand our bakers by 10 more before July Expand our promotional efforts of Autism Awareness to local businesses. 3. Have fundraisers so we can buy a machine that will be easier to use and faster than rolling the dough out by hand for our dog treats. Needs Statement 1.Funding for "sheeter" to roll out dough for dog biscuits $4,000 2.Funding for Autism Awareness $2,500 3.We are looking to hire a staff member this year to oversee operations full time. $24,000/yr. 4.Volunteers with baking, cooking, Autism experience, and connections to the Autism community. Background Statement Pathways Autism Cure & Treatment Inc and Autism Family Center Of Florida are completely dedicated to helping people on the Autism Spectrum. The founder Judy Schwanz has two sons with Autism. One son has profound Autism and does not speak, her other son has Aspergers. He works full time, owns his own home and he is the inspiration behind Autism Bakers for Barkers. Judy's oldest son Phil ( successful businessman) has assisted in establishing the organizational building blocks. This concept has been in the works for about 20 years in Judy's heart. This past year the opportunity / inspiration presented itself to create this non-profit to help young Autistic adults become gainfully employed. Carolyn Long was an executive with a successful dog food company. Carolyn and Judy are volunteer instructors for the Sarasota location. Statement from the Board Chair This organization is unique because it will be for Autistic young people in our local community. We want to establish a true partnership of parents and professionals within the community to create and operate high quality programs. A place where families can bring their young Autistic adults for fun & education. Without fear if their child has a meltdown, we are all experienced in this field. We will have a sensory room available where a young adult can have a timeout with a professional. The autistic baker can rejoin the activity after the sensory break. We cannot depend on the support of the state or federal government. Private funding gives us the opportunity to expand our programs into multiple communities. The success stories would be that the autistic clients would be able to find work in the community. - Ms. Alyce Hahn Board Co-Chair Statement from the CEO/Executive Director 3

4 Our main concerns are teenagers graduating from high school and adults with Autism who are having trouble finding meaningful jobs in our communities. We have started our Autism Bakers for Barkers Program at 8500 Vamo Road in Sarasota, Florida. We currently have 10 young adults in our program with a long waiting list of young people wanting to work in our program. We have to create opportunities for autistic people to learn and grow. These solutions are critical to the well being of our autistic children and adults. -Mrs. Judy Schwanz Areas Served FL- Manatee FL- Sarasota Service Categories Primary Organization Type Secondary Organization Type Tertiary Organization Type Education Employment Employment 4

5 PROGRAMS Autism Bakers for Barkers Description This is a faith-based program, which provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for young adults with Autism. Through job training, social interactions, baking and product creation, we explore the interests, abilities and hidden talents of each student and help them build their skills and confidence. Budget $3, There is a tremendous need for good quality programs for young adults with autism. Our plan is to get as many people as possible out into the community in a supported employment position. Even with an advocate, it is very difficult for employers to consider hiring Autistic people. Those with Autism do not fit into a typical job description. There is an intake process for students which begins with a family meeting where information about the applicant will be gathered. Students must be literate and cannot exhibit aggressive behavior that would put others at risk. Classes are from 10:30-12:30. Students are trained in all aspects from baking, to packaging, to selling and promoting their product. This is a true entrepreneurial program. Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Employment, General/Other Job Training & Employment Yes People/Families with People of Developmental Disabilities Elderly and/or Disabled People/Families with People of Developmental Disabilities The young people in the program gain confidence and the opportunity for social interaction and connection. Having 80% graduate from our program and move on to our Artisan Autism Bakery and Catering Service, while others will remain and teach new incoming future bakers. Success is reflected by the number of graduates from the program along with how each student learns to use their skills and abilities to interact with others and pursue a career path. We are creating awareness in the community that breaks the stigma of insignificance and isolation. Socially this helps the students as many of them have a limited capacity for learning yet have untapped skills and abilities, such as photographic memories, etc. Students tell us they either want to stay and help others to learn the dog biscuit business or want to go on to our next program Artisan Autism Bakery and Catering Business. Comments Management Comments by Organization Challenges: organization exists in a static environment. Things will always be changing, economic trends, social changes and the demand for new services and offerings. Autism Family Center Of Florida will be implementing new ideas and therapy to help people on the Autism Spectrum, on a yearly basis. Opportunities: Even as advances in new technology in early intervention and more help with adults with Autism, there will always be challenges. We will be implementing new programs and services, along with new opportunities. Communities will generate new expectations from our Autism Family Center Of Florida. Our strategic plan will need to be updated and reshaped every two years. 6

Autism cripples children for life. Most people on the Autism Spectrum as adults, cannot live by themselves.
