3 BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement The St. Vincent de Paul Society of SS Peter and Paul the Apostles church in Bradenton, FL was able to assist over 2445 people with a total of $179, in assistance in Our society was able to assist the needy with food, utility bills, clothing, home furnishings, household goods, financial assistance, education, and with other immediate emergencies in their lives. All of this is done with volunteers who have put in over 4880 hours of work. Needs Statement The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has seen the need for help skyrocket in our county. We need financial assistance to help us carry on our mission in Manatee county at a time of growing demand for help among our poorest residents and those who have found themselves in a financial crisis for the first time in their lives.1. WATER2 ELECTRIC3. HALFWAY HOUSE ASSISTANCE4. GAS AND FOOD VOUCHERS5. EMERGENCY NEEDS - Because our needs and those of our clients keep escalating we are always trying to recruit more volunteers that can help us in our ministry and help us to finance it and make people aware of our ministry. We are looking for people who can maintain a Website, in order to make the community aware of our mission and assist us in securing grants and donations. Background Statement The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam along with a group of students who started out to visit the poor of Paris in their homes, taking them bread and clothes, their friendship and their concern. This small group took as their patron St. Vincent de Paul who alerted the world to social problems. Similar groups began in Paris, then in the rest of France, and eventually spread throughout the world with the object of visiting those in need. Statement from the Board Chair There was a point in my life where I needed financial and moral assistance. I was lucky enough to have family and friends to rely on, not everyone is that lucky. w it is my turn to help others and the St. Vincent de Paul Society is the perfect fit for me. As President of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference I started attending community meetings in order to see how we can together help the people of Manatee County. We are now working with other organizations helping each other and our respective clients. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an all volunteer organization that relies on donations to help those in need. There is such a tremendous need in Manatee County that we had to look for financial assistance beyond just our Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles in Bradenton, FL. Thus we started writing grants and became aware of the Giving Challenge. The Giving Challenge gave us a tremendous boost last year to help more people than we ever had before. We are always looking for more people to help in our mission. We need someone to attend some of these community meetings, help develop a Web Site and someone to be in charge of publicity to keep us in the public eye.i also volunteer with Stillpoint House of Prayer, The Manatee Players Theatre, and co-chair the Solve Rummage sale and still go back to Chicago to work the Lake County Catholic Charities Christmas Gift Program. But, St. Vincent de Paul is my number 1 project and I have also become the St. Vincent De Paul Disaster representative for Manatee and Sarasota Counties, so this means I also attend the local COAD and VOAD meetings besides going to conferences and classes on Disaster Awareness and preparedness. PLEASE HELP US TO CONTINUE HELPING OTHERS. Statement from the CEO/Executive Director Areas Served 3

5 PROGRAMS WATER BILL ASSISTANCE Description Every week we pay on the average of $ to the city and county water companies in Manatee County to keep the service going and sometimes to restore the service. Budget $0.00 Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Human Services, General/Other Emergency Assistance General/Unspecified Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent On a daily basis our volunteers meet with needy people to determine how to help with their immediate needs.this is usually done by paying the utility bills that are due or past due. St. Vincent de Paul Society was able assist over 2700 people with a total of $110,000. Saint Vincent de Paul Society believes that no one in Manatee County should be without electricity or water in their home. We are able to assist the needy with financial assistance for the immediate emergencies in their lives. All of this is done with volunteers who have put in over 4,000 hours of work. The success is that the families are able to return to a normal existence.. TBA ELECTRIC BILL ASSISTANCE Description We spend an average of $ each week to FP&L, TECO, and Peace River in Manatee County for people in danger of or have lost their electricity in their homes. Budget $0.00 Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Food, Agriculture & Nutrition, General/Other Food Distribution Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent Families Unemployed, Underemployed, Dislocated We help an average of 4 families ( approximately 20 people) each week to keep their electricity turned on. This translates to approximately 250 people per year. Clients are monitored on frequency of requests for assistance. Home visits are scheduled for clients who request help more than twice a year. This allows us to sit down with a client and help them to work out a long term budget based on their income and expenses. During a home visit, we talked to a client who had a very high bill... 5

6 HALFWAY HOUSE ASSISTANCE Description We provide financial assistance for clients who are in transition from a hospital or court program which they have completed successfully. We will assist with two weeks rent in approved halfway houses. This gives these clients a chance to find work and become self sustaining. Budget $0.00 Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Food, Agriculture & Nutrition, General/Other Food Distribution Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent Families Unemployed, Underemployed, Dislocated Clients can stay for up to two weeks in a safe housing environment that provides them a chance to reacclimate to society expectations. Clients are generally able to sustain their own expenses after receiving the critical two week period after their hospital or court release. Before approving the initial expense, we speak with the case manager assigned to the client and before approving the second week of expense, we talk with the Recovery House manager to check on the status of the client's progress. One client was on the way back to his home (where he had encountered the problems of his addiction) and was calling one of the recovery homes to see if a bed was available. We were able to pay for this bed space in that recovery house and he was then in a positive environment. This particular man ended up being a counselor in one of the recovery homes and has gained back his children. FOOD ASSISTANCE Description We provide 24 hours emergency food bags for those in need. The food, toiletries and paper goods have all been donated by parishioners. Budget $7, Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Food, Agriculture & Nutrition, General/Other Food Distribution Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent Families Unemployed, Underemployed, Dislocated Feeding those in need. Besides supplying emergency bags of food, clients are also referred to the various food banks in the community that provide a regular distribution of food. By word of mouth from the clients we know that the programs works as they also send more people to us. Because this is a 24 hours emergency food distribution people are grateful that they can feed their family and and focus on their other needs. 6

7 GAS AND TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE Description Gas vouchers are given to the clients so they may transport their children to school, themselves to work and/or job interviews, and medical appointments. 13 Financial Comments by Organization This is the first time that we have gone into 6 brackets for money received. We received $118,894 and gave out over $120,000 to people in financial emergencies. The need keeps growing in Manatee County for people who need financial assistance. Most of our assistance is for utilities to be put back on or keep them on. We are also helping those who desire to further their education so they can be self reliant. Financial Comments by Foundation Prior to FY 2014, financial information was taken from the Council's compilations. Starting with fiscal year 2014, financial information was taken from Form 990-EZ. 13
