2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission To empower those in need with solutions to end homelessness, break the cycle of domestic violence, and create stability and self-sufficiency from crisis. Background In the late eighties Fayette County was known as one of the poorest counties in the nation. Concerned about the sad conditions facing many low income families, community members gathered to address the needs of the poor. Representatives from faith communities, business leaders, elected officials and other caring individuals joined to form Fayette Cares. In 1986 Fayette Cares was chartered as a nonprofit charitable organization. As an interdenominational, non-partisan, countywide organization, Fayette Cares unites churches, businesses, service agencies, and individuals to provide aid for county residents in need. Impact All families in Fayette County will be self-sufficient in a healthy home. Needs 1. Fayette Cares needs funds to provide rent, utility, food and shelter for homeless prevention, domestic violence and crisis intervention programs. 2. Partnerships with local businesses to provide job opportunities to clients. 3. Community partners to provide training and resources for Life Skills classes. 4. Legal advocacy to assist clients with court related needs. I invite you to think about the smiling child who, with a full belly, will rest tonight at Fayette Cares knowing that mommy is safe. This little one will have sweet and peaceful dreams for the first time in months. Now, think of the woman who is filled with confidence because the training and job leads she received from the Fayette Cares Case Manager will help with her upcoming interview. She no longer feels hopeless and alone. Then remember the recently unemployed man who breathes a sigh of relief because, with help from Fayette Cares, his family will not be evicted or go hungry, and his children will have the supplies they need for school. For a moment, he sets his worries down to focus on finding another job. Remember these families and know that the help they received is made possible because you care. 3 Programs Programs Emergency Shelter Description Emergency Shelter allows a transition from homelessness to independent living. Through our Emergency, homeless families and domestic violence victims will build the skills and resources needed to become financially stable, effectively manage their finances, establish permanent homes, and build strong families with bright futures. Budget $100, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Homeless Supportive Housing will help provide lasting solutions to homelessness. Short Term Success The program helps clients by providing a holistic approach to helping those in need advance toward self-sufficency and link them to servies that will foster self-reliance, facilitate employment and educational programs, and develop life skills. Emergency Food and Assistance Description The Fayette Cares Emergency Food and Assistance program provides food pantry assistance, rent and utility payments, clothing, furniture and housewares for families in need. Budget $172, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Adults The program helps families recover from house fires, natural disasters, financial crises, and other tragedies. Fayette Cares helps stabilize families in financial crisis to prevent a plummet into homelessness. 3

4 Domestic Violence Intervention Description Domestic Violence Intervention offers options and resources for victims of abuse to escape violence. Available services include a 24-hour hotline facilitating access to emergency shelter and transportation for victims in imminent danger. Services also include security systems, emergency cellular phones, self-defense classes, court accompaniment, and links to other essential resources. Support groups are offered, giving victims the opportunity to find the power of healing within themselves and among other survivors. Budget $80, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Victims The Fayette Cares Domestic Violence Program provides victims a safe place to regroup, rebuild and re-establish their self-esteem and lives. Short Term Success Services include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter and transportation, safety planning, emergency cellular phones, self-defense classes, security systems, court accompaniment, and links to essential resources. Support groups are also offered, giving victims the opportunity to find healing among other survivors. Fayette Cares Donation Center and Thrift Shop Description Fayette Cares Donation Center receives donated clothing, furniture, and housewares to provide needed supplies for impoverished families in crisis. Merchandise is also sold to the general public to raise funds for emergency services. Budget $110, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Adults Fayette Cares Donation Center provides essential supplies to minimize the trauma caused by crisis. The shop also provides important fundraising for services. Providing families with essential supplies caused by crisis. Christmas Caring Description Fayette Cares provides food and toys for hundreds of families during the holiday season. These gifts are donated by caring community members.
