2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission Memphis Recovery Centers' mission is to provide cost effective, comprehensive treatment services to youth, adults, and their families who are experiencing major life problems due to alcohol or drug abuse and return them to an acceptable level of emotional, spiritual, physical and occupational functioning. Background MRC (Memphis Recovery Centers, Inc.) was established in 1970 to provide care for addicts and alcoholics living on the streets of Memphis. Originally founded as Memphis House, MRC has served thousands of addicts, alcoholics, substance abusers and their families. Today, MRC is a seventy bed residential, licensed and accredited substance addiction treatment provider. We serve male and female, youth and adult patients. Our primary funding sources include the Tennessee Department of Children s Services, the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, and United Way. In addition, MRC accepts self-pay, donations, and gifts in kind to help meet the needs of our indigent patients. Throughout all of its history, Memphis Recovery Centers, Inc., has stayed true to its mission... to return the individual to an acceptable level of spiritual, physical, social and occupational functioning, and to help each addicted person and his or her family begin a lifelong process of recovery. Impact Accomplishments: Reinstated the state supported youth residential treatment grant for FY 17/18, after funding was cut statewide for FY 16/17Established stable leadership among all three programs.served over 300 adolescent and adult patients in FY 16/17. Goals: Increase our adolescents average GPA by 5%.We would like to see an increase in family involvement with our Adult Services program.develop and establish a comprehensive, up-to-date, training program for new personnel, using evidence based treatment models. Needs MRC provides treatment for adolescents and adults suffering from drug/alcohol addiction. Substance abuse can prevent an individual from an abundant life and the ability to be a productive member of society. We address the addictions while we address the rest of their life issues. Even more, we help make addiction treatment as readily available as possible. This reality will make full health body, mind, and spirit a possibility for more individuals in our community. Our work on both the individual and systemic level is making a difference for people in our community. MRC s most pressing needs: Financial resources, including: state funding, United Way funding, individual donations, and third party revenue resources.facility improvementsqualified personnel for supplemental treatment services, including: music, art, and drama therapy.recreational facility access or potential ownership.technological advancements and resources for Transitions Learning Center (TLC), MRC s in-house High School. Service Categories Substance Abuse Treatment 2

3 Programs Programs Adult Services Description MRC offers residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs for adult men and woman seeking recovery from substance abuse. These programs are self-paced and built upon specialized plans designed by the patient and his or her counselor. All programs are gender specific. Services include individual, group and family sessions, process groups, recovery support groups, educational lectures, nutrition and wellness programs, and music/art therapy. All treatment is based upon goals established by the patient and their professional counselor. Budget $1,068, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Adults Since 1970, MRC has been providing treatment services to individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. MRC's goal is to achieve abstinence from mind/mood altering substances for a minimum of 50% of the patients we serve. Year after year, MRC treatment outcomes exceed the national average compared to studies by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Many patients entering our program come into treatment without hope that anything can change for the better. Often times, patients have lost their jobs, homes, family relationships, everything that matters to them, and their dignity. They leave treatment with the resources and knowledge needed to continue living their lives free of drugs and alcohol. They are able to maintain stable employment and housing and can begin to rebuild all of the things in their lives that they feel may have been destroyed. Many patients remain active in MRC's alumni group, as well as in the twelve step program in the community. This year, MRC's Adult Services Program served 129 patients which exceeded our projection of 110. Our yearly goal for our program is to achieve abstinence from mind/mood altering substances for a minimum of 50% of the patients we serve and improve overall life functioning (increase school, training, or work attendance; reduce arrests; increase 12-step meeting attendance; and increase stability in living arrangements) for 30% of our patients at 30 days after discharge. 3

4 Youth Program Description MRC's Youth Program is a CARF accredited, long-term residential alcohol and drug abuse treatment facility for adolescent males and females ages in Memphis and the surrounding areas. Our Youth program specializes in treating teens with substance abuse or dependence and their families. The abuse of alcohol and other drugs by adolescents often goes unnoticed until other problems surface. Our comprehensive, intensive program addresses many of the problems related to addiction. These may include, but are not limited to, a drop in school performance, disciplinary problems at home and/or school, mood swings, involvement in illegal activities, criminal behavior and legal charges, association with a negative peer group, and an increase in risky behaviors. The program offers three-to-six months of structured residential treatment with intensive family involvement and an on campus school. Budget $823, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Adolescents Only (13-19 years) The main goal of treatment at MRC is to return the individual to an acceptable level of spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and occupational functionaing by providing a continuum of skill-building and interventions. MRC has set a goal is to achieve abstinence from mind/mood altering substances for a minimum of 55% of the patients we serve. Many clients leave treatment and are no longer engaged in any criminal activity. They return to regular public high school and in some cases complete their high school educational requirements or earn their GED while in treatment and are able to gain employment. As clients remain involved in the recovery community and attend 12-step meetings on a regular basis, they are able to give back to the community in a positive way. This year, MRC's Youth Program served 67 patients which exceed our projection of 30. Our yearly goal is to achieve abstinence from mind/mood altering substances for a minimum of 55% of the patients we serve and improve overall life functioning (increase school, training, or work attendance; reduce arrests; increase 12-step meeting attendance; and increase stability in living arrangements) for 35% of our patients at 30 days after discharge. 4

5 Youth Development Program Description MRC's Youth Development Program is a CARF accredited, long-term residential alcohol and drug abuse treatment facility for adolescent males and females ages in TN State Custody. Budget $1,268, Target Population Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Adolescents Only (13-19 years) The main goal of treatment at MRC is to return the individual to an acceptable level of spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and occupational functionaing by providing a continuum of skill-building and interventions. These variables (i.e. substance abuse, arrests, housing, work/school and 12 step meeting attendance) are individually and collectively indicative of how well a recovering alcoholic or addict is maintaining a clean and sober lifestyle. These aspects are indicative to a "normal" healthy lifestyle that go terribly wrong when an adolescent substance abuser relapses. 5
