Volunteers will be the heart of our home and we will need plenty to cook meals, help answer phones, give tours and help with cleaning and maintenance of OK Kids Korral. Statements Mission To encourage the health and happiness of pediatric cancer patients by soliciting public support of "OK Kids Korral." This state-of-the-art facility provides temporary housing for families of pediatric cancer patients who must leave their own communities in order to receive medical treatment in the Oklahoma City area. The mission of The Toby Keith Foundation will be met by:1) Providing a cost-free, convenient and comfortable home for any child coming to Oklahoma City to receive their cancer treatments; thus reducing the financial and physical toll put on the family.2) Partnering with other organizations as we look at the patient and their families road to recovery holistically. Background The Toby Keith Foundation has been in existence since We have helped hundreds of pediatric cancer patients with financial assistance and we were a benefactor of the oncology unit renovations at The Children's Hospital. In 2010, we streamlined our efforts and began our journey to build OK Kids Korral. The Korral will address the financial, physical and emotional toll put on children and their families as they battle cancer. We will give them a cost-free housing solution, near the hospital, to call home as they fight cancer. child should be turned away from overnight lodging facilities due to lack of available rooms or inability to pay. Impact The past primary goals of The Toby Keith Foundation have centered around fundraising, marketing and research. Our fundraising goals have been consistently allowing us to design, research, build and open a no cost home for children with cancer. The research we have completed encompasses operational efficiencies, parent needs and child welfare. In addition, by utilizing social media, press, and marketing, the foundation has seen an increase in donations, website visits and social media connections that far exceeded expectations. The coming year, we will focus our efforts on 1) fundraising to support the operations of OK Kids Korral 2) adjust and refine our programs to best fit our guests overall needs. Needs The Toby Keith Foundation has been fundraising since 2010 in order to open OK Kids Korral, a cost free home for children with cancer. We will focus a great deal of effort on fundraising across Oklahoma. Our goal is to create an endowment by the end 2018 to ensure the success of our operations. Also, the need for volunteers will increase. Volunteers are needed to cook meals for the families staying at OK Kids Korral. Our goals is to provide a home cooked meal five days a week. In addition, we will need to find quality volunteers to help run the front desk and give tours when needed.finally, we open the Korral with programs for the entire family from therapy sessions to story time. We will partner with groups throughout our state to bring beneficial programs for mom, dad, sibling and patient. 2
3 CEO/Executive Director Statement The Toby Keith Foundation has been working for children with cancer for years. We've helped with renovation projects and providing financial assistance. The past two years we have focused most of our efforts on our largest program, OK Kids Korral. We opened our doors in January 2014 and have housed about 230 different families during that time from across Oklahoma and surrounding states. Families live with us for an average of 4 days per visit and see us at least 4 times per year. Most of us have been affected by cancer in some way and yet we can think of no prospect more devastating than learning you child has cancer. It happens hundreds of times a year in our state alone. A child is diagnosed and a parent is hopeless. The Korral surrounds families with peace of mind, kindness and warmth. We can be hopeful in a hopeless place. We can be kind when the world seems cruel. On the outside, what we offer is walls and windows, but what we offer on the inside, is love. Board Chair Statement Years ago, one of my friends lost his child to cancer. Like many people, I was moved to action. I wanted to help families who were in pain and lost. I kept hearing my friends talk about the house they stayed out as they fought for their little girl and I wanted to help bring that to Oklahoma. The idea for OK Kids Korral came from realizing that our state does have a shortage of housing solutions for families and the desire to help parents focus on getting their child well. We are a relatively new foundation with a very new program, OK Kids Korral. We are focusing on educating the public about our mission and raising funds at the same time. We realize that most of our work needs to be grass roots and we are getting out into the public at every opportunity and hosting more events each year. Also, partnerships are key for us and we are inviting more corporations, small businesses and individuals to be our long-term partners. Area Served Area Served Geographic Area Served Oklahoma - Statewide Our program primarily benefits families in the state of Oklahoma. However, in the 3 years since opening we have welcomed children from Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Arizona, Kansas and the United Kingdom. The list continues to grow each year. Service Categories Primary Organizational Category Secondary Organizational Category Health Care/Health Support Housing, Shelter/Housing Expenses Reduction Support Programs OK Kids Korral Description The Toby Keith's primary program is OK Kids Korral. The Korral is a temporary housing solution for pediatric cancer patients. The child and their family may stay at the Korral, free of charge, while they are receiving cancer treatment. The family will be next door to the hospital; alleviating their need to drive back and forth between treatments and it will give them peace of mind as they are steps away from the hospital and their doctors. OK Kids Korral will provide the amenities of home such as private rooms to sleep and relax, a gourmet kitchen, dining areas, comfortable living areas and a laundry room. However, the Korral is more than a hotel. It will feature areas targeting the specific needs of children with cancer while it provides spaces where children can let loose and parents can simply relax. 3
4 Budget $445, Category Health Care, General/Other Patient & Family Housing Strategy Population Served Program Short-term Success Program Long-term Success Program Success Monitoring Examples of Program Success Children and Youth (0-19 years) Families People/Families of People with Cancer By the end of the first year the Korral is open, we estimate we will have housed 416 patients and over a thousand of their family members. It is also estimated that we will save each family over $3,000 of expenses related to lodging. We will report exact numbers of who we are helping and the financial impact we've had on each family yearly. Opening OK Kids Korral will result in reducing the number of families turned away from overnight lodging facilities while they are battling an illness. We will double the number of rooms that are currently being provided to families at facilities outside of the hospital. The Korral will also save families thousands of dollars during the course of their treatment by providing free lodging, reducing their gas costs, and providing free breakfasts and dinner every day of their stay. one staying at OK Kids Korral will be asked to pay for any service provided to them. A survey will be given to each family member staying at the Korral. It will rank areas such as financial benefit, emotional impact, physical benefit and additional services. The survey will be given to each parent upon checking out of the Korral. In addition, social will be surveyed twice each year to ensure procedure efficiency and overall need. Data will be provided at the end of OK Kids Korral's first calendar year. Disaster Programs Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Member Comments on Programs CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments OK Kids Korral will benefit thousands of people each year. The biggest challenge to the Korral is raising funds to cover the operations of a 25,000 sq. foot building that is designed to keep families safe even during the roughest of times. The Korral features a neutropenic wing providing the cleanest air possible for children with weakened immune systems. It also features a theater room that serves as a safe room in inclement weather and over-sized generators in case of loss of electricity.
