In-kind donations such as gently used items for Yard Sales, meals for shut-ins, and volunteer time in our Community Center or Children's Ministry are also always appreciated. Currently we need volunteers for the following: *NOTE: The Wednesday and Friday activities occur at Thoroughbred Crossings Community Center, 1346 Village Dr., #D-7. The Sunday activities are at Iglesia Nueva Vida. Childcare: Wednesdays, 7:00-9:15 p.m. Need: 2-3 volunteers once a 1

2 month. We can use a total of 12 volunteers. Responsibilities: caring for children ages 1-12, including activities, games, and snacks (provided by Iglesia Nueva Vida). Requirement: Age 18+ or with adult; Spanish is not required but beneficial. Childcare: Fridays, 7:00-9:30 p.m. Need: 3-4 volunteers once a month. We can use a total of 16 volunteers. Responsibilities: caring for children ages 1-12, including activities, games, and snacks (provided by INV). Requirement: Age 18+ or with adult; Spanish is not required but beneficial. Children s Ministry Volunteers: Sundays, 5:00-7:30 p.m. Need: 3-5 volunteers once a month. We can use a total of 12 volunteers. Responsibilities: caring for children ages birth-12, including lesson, activities, games, song, and snacks. These are provided by INV, but we can work with outside resources/materials as well. Requirement: Age 18+ or with adult; Spanish is not required but recommended. 2

3 Statements & Search Criteria Statements Mission Statement Iglesia Nueva Vida exists to share the hope of Jesus with the Latino population of Central Kentucky through dynamic worship, relevant stories, and solid, personal growth. Our Community Center's mission is to inspire hope in families, children, and youth in ways that are culturally-relevant and multi-generational, overcoming personal and family barriers and building self-esteem. Background Statement Iglesia Nueva Vida was founded in 2004 as an expansion of Southland Christian Church's Hispanic Ministry. Currently the church meets in Open Door Church on Addison Avenue for their Sunday evening services and has their offices and mid-week services at Thoroughbred Crossing Community Center, located in the apartments by the same name on Village Drive. Nueva Vida and its Community Center reach out primarily to immigrant Hispanic families, providing regular meetings for encouragement, prayer, and Bible study, leadership development classes for families, educational development through GED classes for youth and adults, classes for drug, alcohol, and addiction recovery, and general counseling and community development. Impact Statement Last year our organization and Community Center helped 10 couples through our marriage enrichment program, 25 kids through our Saturday clubs, 15 families through our leadership development training, and more than 30 students with our GED classes. We have also expanded our staff to include counseling and administrative services. Our current goals are to find a location to expand our activities and services, including a building program aimed at raising $100,000, as well as to move to a model of team-leadership to better meet the growing needs of the families in our community. Needs Statement Our most pressing need is currently a space of our own. We have our main meetings on Sundays in a rented church building, and our offices and mid-week activities are in a Community Center that we manage in exchange for the space, but we dream of one day having our own location. This is especially important considering that we work with many low-income, immigrant families, who are transient themselves. Giving them a stable location for the development of their family is as important as giving them hope. Several other important needs are volunteers (especially Spanish-speaking) and programs for youth and parents. The youth population in Cardinal Valley, and the immigrant population in Fayette County in general, is exploding. When we look at gang activities and drop-out rates of larger cities like Indianapolis and Nashville, we can see our future, and we need to do whatever it takes to encourage and motivate this upcoming generation. CEO/Executive Director Statement After three years of leading Southland Christian Church's Hispanic Ministry and eight years at Nueva Vida, I can honestly say that I've never been prouder to serve with a group of Latino leaders. The leadership at Nueva Vida is the best. This church is humble, hard-working, generous, and compassionate, always exploring unique ways to match resources with needs to share hope, and it is my honor to be a part of this work of God. 5 Programs Programs GED Classes Description Classes for Spanish-speaking youth and adults to study for and obtain their G.E.D. These classes are offered on Monday and Thursday evenings and offer study groups based on level of preparedness.
