2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission The mission of Henrico Humane Society is to address the enormous population of homeless animals in the greater Richmond area, providing care, shelter and medical services until permanent homes can be found. Background HHS is a non-profit animal rescue organization founded in 1991 by several volunteers in Henrico County. The organization has expanded over the years to serve not only Henrico County, but Richmond and the surrounding counties.dedicated to providing care, shelter and medical services to companion animals, the organization has always been and remains an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. HHS has no facility; the majority of animals in our care stay in foster homes until they can be adopted. In addition to rescuing homeless animals and animals from local shelters, HHS accepts animals from owners who can no longer keep their pets, preventing those animals from being relinquished to local shelters. Impact Top Accomplishments : 1.With the help of dedicated individuals, HHS was able to find homes for 806 animals. Almost every animal in the organization's care stays in a foster home until they are placed in a permanent home; HHS has no shelter and no paid staff.2.the Pet Expo is HHS' biggest fundraiser; in 2017, $25,570 was raised; in 2018, that amount increased to $35,728.3.Not only does HHS work to save homeless animals, but we strive to contribute to our community. With that goal, we develop volunteer opportunities that will not only support HHS' mission, but provide volunteer opportunities to our local students: In 2016, we started a volunteer program for high school students, providing them the chance to develop responsibility and compassion, while earning community service credits for school. In the first year, we recruited 12 new volunteers and average 10 new volunteers annually from the program. In 2017, we started a program partnering with Virginia Commonwealth University's Robertson School of Media and Culture. Each semester two Public Relations interns work on HHS' social media platform and in return, they satisfy the internship requirement for their degree.top Goals for 2018: Fundraising: We have added new events that we expect to be fresh and successful. 1. Participation in Dollars for Dogs and Cash for Cats; a new campaign: 100 Companies- $100,000 Initiative, requesting $1000 pledges from 100 corporations.we started our Doggie Dream House fundraiser at the Richmond Home Show, where we auction handmade dog and cat houses.volunteer Recruitment: In 2018, we began a pilot for a senior foster program, aimed at providing the pet ownership benefits to senior folks in retirement living facilities who can no longer take on pet ownership without help and support. We hope to expand the program through Needs Volunteers to foster dogs and cats until they can be adopted.funds to pay medical expenses that are not covered by adoption fees, donations or fundraising efforts.funds for food and medical expenses to help owners care for their pets during times of financial hardship. This will prevent them from having to turn their pet into a shelter.funds for animals in need of expensive and/or emergency medical care due to severe cases of neglect or abuse.funds for a professional trainer to provide rehabilitative services for dogs who lack the social skills to live as an indoor family pet due to neglect or abuse.funds to spay and/or neuter pets belonging to people in the community who cannot otherwise afford the procedure. 2

3 Board Chair Statement In , HHS was not only able to find forever homes for 806 dogs and cats, but we started several programs that represent creative ways to get volunteer involvement while giving back to the community. by supporting local high school and college students. Our Love Me for Credit program, providing high school students with volunteer opportunities in exchange for community service credits, was kicked off in In 2017, we started partnering with the Virginia Commonwealth University's Robertson School of Media and Culture, providing internships for marketing students who in turn provided support to our social media platforms. Although our intake numbers were lower in the last few years, due to fluctuating numbers of volunteer fosters, our adoption rate remains strong and consistent, an average of 80%, which is well above the national average for rescue organizations. We continually look at ways to expand our capacity while retaining our model of housing all of our animals in caring volunteer foster homes. With capacity comes the need to match available money to the need for medical expenses and supplies. The standard of care for our animals is high; we take our responsibilities seriously. Every animal in our charge receives a good environment and quality veterinary care, therefore we are always examining ways to find the resources to meet these challenges. We will be embarking on some new fundraising events that we expect to be fresh and successful. 4 Programs Programs Adoption Program Description HHS provides veterinary care, food and shelter in foster homes for homeless and abandoned animals, with the goal of finding forever homes through adoption stands and social media exposure. The availability of foster homes and funding for veterinary care are the critical components impacting HHS's ability to save animals.hhs has been able to provide a high level of care to the animals taken into the program. Volunteer Recruitment Description HHS is run by a totally volunteer staff. Maintaining adequate resources to support all our activities is an ongoing process. One goal is to continue to expand our capacity to take in animals while retaining our model of housing all of our animals in caring foster homes. The availability of foster homes is a the critical components impacting HHS's ability to save animals. Foster parents are the heart of our organization and make our work possible. 5 Spay RVA Description A spay/neuter program created for pet owners who cannot afford the cost of surgery to spay or neuter their pet. The program allows pet owners to have their pet spayed or neutered at participating spay/neuter clinics and HHS pays the bill.this program is effective in helping owners who might otherwise re-home their pet or have unplanned litters of kittens or puppies that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering. Budget $0.00 Strategy Short Term Success Yes Clinics that HHS partners with for SPAY RVA include Prevent-A-Litter (PAL), Richmond Animal League (RAL), Jessica Beath Clinic and Barron Surgery, who provide low-cost procedures. In 2016 and 2017, HHS funded procedures for 334 animals. Trap-Neuter-Return Description We use donated appointment times from various community partner veterinary clinics to perform low-cost spay-neuter procedures and rabies vaccinations for feral cats. This decreases disease and stops the breeding cycle. The animals are trapped, transported and returned to their colonies by HHS volunteers. Budget $0.00 Strategy Short Term Success Yes We are seeing a rise in the number of colonies without kittens, which indicates a natural colony decline. 5
