2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission The mission of New Vision, Inc. is to provide quality services that reduce the number of children entering the State's custody and to enhance the quality of life for children and families by providing individualized services with a therapeutic foundation. Background Founded in 2001, New Vision, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the primary goal of reducing the number of children entering the state's custody. New Vision, Inc. bases all of its work on the belief that children should have the opportunity to be raised in a healthy family environment. With an overall mission to research, plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate intervention and prevention programs for youth and their families, New Vision, Inc. is able to enhance the quality of life for children and families by providing individualized services with a therapeutic foundation. New Vision, Inc. began serving youth in December of 2002 upon receiving its first contract with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County's Caring for Children Program. Since receiving this first contract, New Vision, Inc. has substantially increased its presence in Davidson County. Through the use of funding received from the Metropolitan Public Health Department, New Vision, Inc. was able to develop and provide services in the areas of pregnancy prevention and substance abuse prevention. Additionally, New Vision, Inc. has worked with Juvenile Court probation officers as a referral source for the mentoring program. New Vision, Inc. has an extensive network of services for at-risk youth and their families. With a staff made up of 25 counselors and therapists, the organization is able to successfully carry out its mission and philosophy. The services that New Vision, Inc. delivers include, but are not limited to: *In-Home Family Counseling *Intensive Family Preservation Services *Therapeutic Mentoring *Anger Management Classes * New Vision Academy Public Charter School Impact New Vision, Inc continues to make a difference in the lives of those who are served by the agency's outreach. Top accomplishments of the agency are: *Awarded a 5 year charter from the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for establishment of a charter school within the Nashville area; *Awarded critical start-up funds from the State of Tennessee Department of Education for establishment of a charter school serving middle school aged students; *Implementation of a Home Study program with funding through the State of Tennessee Department of Children's Services; * and the successful implementation and continuation of funding for after-school programming. Currently, New Vision, Inc. is working to establishing a new strategic plan. In this plan, the following goals are outlined: *Agency is actively seeking avenues for fundraising which include, but are not limited to, grant writing, annual campaigns, direct mail pieces, and special events; *Agency wants to increase its community presence; *Agency seeks to provide community service opportunities for youth involved in its programs; and *Agency seeks to continue to increase the quality of services that it is providing to clients across the State of Tennessee. Needs 1. Secure and continue funding for current programs; *Additional staffing to oversee the expansion of programs; 2. Increase community presence and attract more interest in agency; 3. Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan and an annual campaign;4. Support and expand enrollment in New Vision Academy Charter School. We serve individuals and families from all walks of life. New Vision Academy Public Charter School serves youth from across the Metropolitan Nashville area. Board Chair Statement New Vision Inc. has a long-term goal to acquire land and a complex\campus that will house all of our programs while successfully running a charter school on that complex as well. This school will be in the Metro Nashville area. CEO Statement New Vision, Inc. continues to make a positive impact on urban and rural communities throughout Middle Tennessee. New Vision, Inc. is moving quickly at becoming a recognizable community base social service agency. The agency strives to maintain a positive reputation by delivering high quality service to our clients. 3
4 Programs Programs Mid-Cumberland Relative Caregiver Program Description Relative Caregiver Program is an option available for relatives to care for non-custodial children who require out-of-home care. Children and relative caregivers receive supportive services, such as information and referral, support groups, respite, recreation, and family advocacy, in order to prevent children from entering state custody. Budget Category Population Served Human Services Case Management Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.), Aging/Elderly/Senior Citizens, Adults In-Home Family Counseling Description In-Home Family Counseling is to encourage parents to become involved in their child(ren) s school life. The counselor provides the child(ren) and family feedback, instructions, and counseling on how to improve their behaviors and relationship. Children and their families have the opportunity to practice skills learned through in-home counseling by actually utilizing skill and techniques learned on a daily basis as they interact with each other. Budget Category Population Served Human Services Children & Youth Services Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.), Adults, Substance Abusers (Drug/Alcohol Abusers) Therapeutic Mentoring Description Therapeutic Mentoring is aimed at children who display unruly or delinquent behaviors, are unsupervised latchkey children, or who need individualized attention not being provided by a caretaker or school. Therapeutic mentoring is offered during the peak hours that children usually get into trouble or are left home alone. Screened and trained mentors provide positive interactions with mentees to help them develop social skills and increase self-esteem. 5 Anger Management Classes Description Category Population Served Anger Management Classes are open to preteens, teenagers, and adults who have problems managing anger and aggression. Each person has the opportunity to develop an understanding of what causes them to empower people to manage their anger without resorting to violence or aggression. Youth and adults learn how to recognize anger, monitor anger, identify personal triggers, learn the difference between justified and unjustified anger, and develop anger management techniques and ways to get out of difficult situations. Human Services Personal Social Services Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.), Adults, Therapeutic Visitation Description Category Population Served Therapeutic Visitation involves the New Vision social worker, parents, child and foster parents. This service is critical to effecting permanency outcomes for children. This type of visitation is a powerful therapeutic intervention that services as a window into parent-child functioning and interaction. Human Services Family-Based Services Adults, Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.), Single Parents New Vision Academy Public Charter School Description Category Population Served New Vision Academy (NVI) is a public charter school funded by the Tennessee State Department of Education and the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. The school currently serves middle school aged youth. NVI delivers curriculum to students in an environment where the needs of the "Whole Child" are met. Not only is the child educated in the core subject areas, but also in life skills that will help the youth be a productive member of society.
