2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission Challenge Discovery Projects is committed to improving the emotional health and well-being of at-risk children and their families in Greater Richmond through programs that promote self-worth and positive, healthy relationships. Background Challenge Discovery Projects, a Virginia-based 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was founded in Challenge Discovery Projects supports its mission by providing school-based and community programs for at-risk youth that address emotional health, bullying, violence, and substance abuse. Impact Challenge Discovery Projects is committed to improving the emotional health and well being of at-risk children and their families in the Greater Richmond area. Challenge Discovery Projects supports its mission by providing school-based and community programs for youth that address emotional health, bullying, violence, and substance abuse. In addition, Challenge Discovery Projects offers emotional health, family support and substance abuse counseling to those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our services are provided regardless of a client s ability to pay. We serve over 1,600 youth and adults annually and have served over 31,000 people since 1980.Say It With HeartSay It With Heart is a school-based bullying and violence prevention program designed for grade K-12 that encourages healthy self-image, effective communication and positive relationships within the school community. The Say It With Heart program places trained instructors in schools where they teach interpersonal skills to students. Say It With Heart also works with parents and teachers to support respectful means of communicating and resolving conflicts with children. Virginia Health Center Virginia Health Center is an adolescent substance abuse outpatient clinic located in Richmond s East End. The Virginia Health Center provides counseling services for at-risk youth and families. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Counseling Services Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Counseling Services (DHHCCS) began with the concept of providing comprehensive outpatient emotional health services, accessible to persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and their families. The licensed program has been administered since 1981 by Challenge Discovery Projects. Professionals are trained in the psychosocial aspects of deafness and are fluent in American Sign Language. 3 Programs Programs Say It With Heart Description Say It With Heart is a school-based bullying prevention program designed for grades k-12. The program encourages positive self-image, respectful communication, healthy relationships and strong connections in the school community. Say it With Heart places trained instructors in schools where they teach interpersonal skills to students, teachers, and parents. In addition to its work with youth, Say it With Heart also supports parent and teacher education to foster respectful and responsible means of communicating and resolving conflicts with children. Virginian Health Center provides counseling services for at-risk youth and families who face a multitude of challenges including substance abuse and emotional health issues.
