2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission Statement Ovations for the Cure, Inc. is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer. Our education programs focus on increasing public awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer in an effort to improve earlier detection of ovarian cancer and thus better outcomes for women who have ovarian cancer. Secondly, our patient programs are created to give knowledge, hope, and comfort to those women currently diagnosed and living with ovarian cancer. Ovations for the Cure, Inc. also provides critical funding for new and ongoing ovarian cancer research initiatives that focus on early detection, prevention, developing more effective treatments for ovarian cancer, and to cure ovarian cancer in our lifetime. Background Statement WHO WE ARE: Ovations for the Cure * Was founded as a 51(c)(3) non-profit organization in April of 26 by Patricia Flaherty. * Is dedicated to supporting the research, patient treatment and awareness of ovarian cancer. * Proliferates broad-spectrum awareness of the risk factors and subtle warning signs of ovarian cancer. WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING: Ovarian Cancer * Will be diagnosed more than 22, times worldwide in 212. * Will be diagnosed 22,43 times in the United States this year alone. * Is hard to detect and equally difficult to diagnose, because symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, trouble eating and urinary urgency or frequency are problems any woman may experience at any given moment. * Claims more deaths than any other gynecological cancer. * Takes the lives of 3 out of every 4 women diagnosed with the disease. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are hard to detect and equally difficult to diagnose. That's because bloating, abdominal pain, trouble eating and urinary urgency or frequency are problems any woman may experience at any given moment. Many women, though, unaware of the subtle clues that ovarian cancer presents, ignore the only warning signs they may ever get. As a result, they seek medical attention only when symptoms become more pronounced and their condition has dangerously progressed. Even then, the disease is one that is not likely to be recognized immediately. Now the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women, it is a disease that ought to be more understandable; and therefore, more preventable. There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer. Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer needs your help in changing these statistics. 2
3 Impact Statement In the last year we have introduced two new patient programs, in addition to maintaining our previous programs of monthly support groups and symposium in September each year. While undergoing treatment, keeping a healthy diet, or even having food in the home, for an ovarian cancer patient and their family becomes challenging. In speaking with our patients/supporters, food shopping and preparing meals for themselves and their family becomes a huge undertaking. Therefore, Ovations is now offering complimentary healthy meals to ovarian cancer patients and their families while they are undergoing treatment. In 211, we serviced only the New England area. In 212, we wish to expand this program to a National level. In the past year, we have also introduced our "Princess Bracelet". This is an exclusive item only to ovarian cancer patients and survivors. The Princess Bead & Bracelet program provides patients with an elegant, silver-plated bangle bracelet adorned with a teal blue crystal bead, with sterling silver imprints on each side. Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer also continues its mission by providing awareness brochures in every OB/GYN office Nationwide. We have also increased our awareness through the growth of our website. We currently receive over 3, visits PER MONTH. Our focus on teaching people the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer has reached to an internationl level with this exposure. Our continued funding of research is now at a total of $1.4 million since 26. Ovations continues to find any and all methods of increasing awareness of this insidious disease, serving those that have fallen victim to it and funding research to prevent it. Needs Statement Our needs include funding of programs and operations, volunteers for delivering meals, and board members. Service Categories Fund Raising & Fund Distribution Cancer Cancer Research Geographic Areas Served We help anyone anywhere in need. Please review online profile for full list of selected areas served. 3
