2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission AARF s mission is to rescue dogs from euthanasia in overcrowded shelters regardless of age, size, breed or medical condition, recognizing any animal s ability to make a life-long companion. AARF also strives to increase public awareness of the animal overpopulation issue and provide solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. AARF is driven to collaborate in our community with animal control facilities, vets and other rescue groups to promote spay and neuter, reduce euthanasia and find permanent homes for homeless animals. Background AARF became a formal organization in 1993 when a group of concerned citizens wished to make a difference in the euthanasia rates of shelters and help dogs found as strays in our communities. In 2013, we celebrate 20 years! Impact AARF considers each dog that is successfully placed in a loving home an accomplishment. Each dog has its own personality, story and happy ending. Our greatest reward comes in placing dogs that arrive with serious medical or behavioral issues. Our goal in the next year is to increase foster home availability, recognize our generous donors through newsletter campaigns and share our successes. Needs AARF's most pressing need is foster homes. People who are willing to open their home and their hearts for abandoned animals are instrumental to our mission. Volunteers are the crux of the organization. They can be found working at our adoption stands, special events, responding to s and phone calls and performing administrative duties. We are always seeking helping hands. Relying 100% on donations, we need financing for all aspects of animal care. An average of $50,000 a year is spent on veterinary care, dog food, medicine, heartworm and flea preventative and kenneling (when necessary). Areas Of Service Areas Served 2

7 Management Executive Director/CEO Executive Director Term Start Apr Cindy Chiles-Smith Experience Cindy first joined AARF about 12 years ago when she ran into one of AARF's stands at Pet Smart. She volunteered to help bottle-feed kittens and then puppies. Cindy has been rescuing and fostering puppies and dogs, ever since. She was Recording Secretary for two years and then was the Treasure/Dog Chair/Puppy Lady. She has now become the AARF President! Cindy also runs adoption stands every weekend, sends updates to the AARF site, makes deliveries, screens adopters, does the data base, answers the Hotmail account and Facebook. She has been instrumental in maintaining AARF's presence on Pet finder and adopt-apet websites, by submitting articles and pictures. Cindy is a tremendous help with various fundraising events and is the fundraising chairperson. Cindy helps keep all our dogs and puppies well, by giving all the shots and wormings for each dog and puppy. She is also one of the dog chairs and is also on the Board of Directors.Cindy has also, been maintaining the Petersburg Animal Shelter's web site for the past two years and has helped save many lives from the shelter by taking and receiving pictures and information and posting them on the websites and mass s to all of the rescue groups and lining up transports.she is very dedicated to saving many lives, from off the streets or in area pounds, finding them loving homes and continuing the circle of rescue that is needed in the area.
