2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission The Robertson County Child Advocacy Center exists to reduce the trauma of sexually and severely physically abused children and their families by facilitating a comprehensive child focused multi disciplinary team approach to prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. Background In 1992, members of our multidisciplinary team learned of an advocacy center start-up grant available for Nashville. The Nashville group was not able to get organized to apply for the grant, so our team members asked to apply for the grant in March Between March and June 30, 1992 they organized to write the grant, located 3175 square feet of office space, secured an in-kind lease agreement and rehabilitated the office space.the office was on the top floor of a building originally built in 1899 and in poor condition. Two members of the team located a contractor and personally guaranteed payment for the contractor's work in the amount of $65,000. While personnel have changed we remain committed to a multidisciplinary response to allegations of child sexual and severe abuse. Last year, the building that the Center has been in its inception in 1992 was sold. The Center was faced with finding a new home, managing a move, and continuing services to child victims of physical or sexual abuse. Robertson County kindly offered the Center a space in the basement in the UT Extension Center. In December of 2017, construction began on the new space to make it more child-friendly and follow accreditation standards. By mid-january, the new Center was ready. Since then, the Center has enjoyed the new space as it helps accommodate the children who walk through its doors. Impact In the past year, the Robertson County Child Advocacy Center was faced with a difficult challenge of finding a new home. With the help of Robertson County and others, the center had a successful move and transition. The Robertson County Child Advocacy Center has been able to hire a full-time Victim Advocate and expand upon its victim advocacy services. Additionally, the Center has been able to be fully staffed with an Executive Director, a full-time and qualified Forensic Interviewer, and a Victim Advocate. Being fully staffed has allowed the delegation of duties such as the Forensic Interviewer only conducting interviews and the Victim Advocate only focusing on Victim Advocacy services. For the upcoming year, the Center will work towards raising its community profile and increasing awareness to the community about the services provided at the Center for Robertson County. Another goal for the Center is to help spread more awareness about the effects of trauma and child abuse and how trauma and child abuse affect the community as a whole. Additionally, there has been significant shift in the multi-disciplinary staff that collaborates with the Center on cases of suspected child abuse. The Center wants to fully support those new members in any way possible to better serve the children and families of Robertson County. Needs 1. Ongoing Streams of Funding: The Center operates on a limited budget. The Center's lack of funding prevents the Center from expanding its services such as prevention work and support groups as well as keep up with operating costs and competitive salaries. Additionally, the Center's rainy day fund was significantly affected by the move and renovations for the new space. 2. New Programs: The Robertson County Child Advocacy Center would like to expand upon its services it offers to the community. The Center wants to work towards a prevention program for children and adults as well as support groups for non-offending parents. 3. Support and Training for the new multi-disciplinary team members as well as Center staff. Due to significant changes in the Center's partnering agencies, the Center wants to support the new members of the team. Additionally, the Center staff must participate in ongoing education for accreditation standards. 4. Increased Presence in the Community: The Center would like be more active in the community that it serves such as having the ability to participate in community events and community outreach. 5. Increase Support from the Community: The Robertson County Child Advocacy Center would like to increase its list of community partners to better help the families seen at the Center in addition to the community being more active in the things that we do. 2

Total county population is estimated at 68, 570. CEO Statement Robertson County Child Advocacy Center was the fifth CAC in the state and the first rural/urban center. RCCAC is dedicated to the multi-disciplinary concept of investigating child abuse. We have an excellent working relationship among the many agencies that are involved in the investigation process. As committed as we are to the investigation process we are equally committed to reducing the numbers of substantiated cases in Robertson County. This center continually seeks ways to enhance our services to children and families we serve, develop new and stronger community partnerships to provide better educational and preventive programs. 3
4 Programs Programs Forensic Interviewing Description During the 2017 calendar year, the Robertson County Child Advocacy Center conducted 145 forensic interviews. Forensic Interviews are critical in determining whether abuse has occurred, who the perpetrator is, and how the case needs to proceed. Success is measured by the interviewer obtaining information that allows the other disciplines involved in the investigation to make informed choices in the case. Examples of Program Success The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. CEO Comments It is always challenging to find sustainable funding to support programs and staff. We continually seek ways to enhance our services within the limits of our finances. We have found several ways to do this including more community involvement and strengthening community partnerships. Team members are committed to the agency and actively participate in events and services. Our challenge continues to be that we must still improve preventive services if we are going to be successful in doing anything about the issue of child abuse in our community. At the same time, we must respond to the needs of children and families who have already 4
5 been victimized. This dual focus presents challenges for us and we will have to seek creative ways in meeting these challenges. 5
