Volunteer Days The second Saturday of each month is Volunteer Day at Jesus House. On Volunteer Days, we host individuals and groups from all around the Oklahoma City metro area to perform special work projects at Jesus House. Statements Mission Jesus House is an inner-city, non-denominational Christian outreach providing food, shelter, clothing and assistance to the homeless and low-income families of Oklahoma City. Unlike any other outreach in Oklahoma, Jesus House services to the homeless are tailored for homeless persons with mental illness and addiction. Background Jesus House was founded in 1973 and remains an important ministry to the homeless and poverty stricken of Oklahoma City. Today's Jesus House continues the original mission of it's founders with new leadership and a revamped Board of Directors. Now more than ever, Jesus House of Oklahoma City stands committed to faithful service to helping the poverty stricken, addicted and mentally ill with a renewed commitment to biblical principles and stewardship. Jesus House is member of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions. Impact Jesus House of Oklahoma City provides more than just shelter, meals and programs to our residents. We host a soup kitchen that serves well over 100,000 hot meals to the sheltered and unsheltered homeless every year.we hand out hundreds of food baskets to needy families each week. We operate a clothing ministry and distribute used furniture to persons in need. We also distribute food and personal hygiene items to the unsheltered homeless with our Street Ministry outreach. Jesus House also performs outreach to low income households with our Adopt-A-Block community outreach. On the week of Thanksgiving, Jesus House distributes approximately 1,000 food baskets to low income families. Our Thanksgiving food baskets contain most of the ingredients to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner---including a frozen turkey. We also distribute special holiday food baskets to low income households at Christmas and Easter. Needs Jesus House is operated with funds donated by individual donors, churches and corporations. We receive no financial support from government or State programs. Our biggest need is financial support so that we may continue to provide programs that work for men and women experiencing homelessness addiction and mental illness. I just wanted to take the opportunity to say "thank you" for your interest in learning more about Jesus House. At Jesus House, we understand that our mission can only be accomplished with the support of people like you who seek to make a tremendous difference in the lives of the people we serve. And with our devoted leadership team at Jesus House, your contributions will go even farther in meeting the needs of our clients, the homeless population of Oklahoma City and the community's needy. As you may have heard, Jesus House has begun an exciting new era. In addition to a new executive director, Jesus House has seated a new board of directors which is dedicated to helping more people than ever with a strong emphasis on accountability and biblical principles of stewardship. At Jesus House, our motto is "Recovery Hope Transformation" From operating one of the largest Recovery Program and food kitchens in OKC to conducting outreach to the homeless right on the streets of OKC to distributing tons of nutrious groceries to low income households each year to serving our neighbors in two of the poorest neighbors in OKC with Adopt-A-Block, I cannot contain my excitement about the many ways Jesus House helps numerous people by spreading the love of Jesus Christ. 4 Program Short-term Success Program Long-term Success Program Success Monitoring Examples of Program Success We strive to encourage our residents to achieve mental stability with doctor prescribed medications, escape from the bondage of addiction with recovery programs that work and spiritual encouragement for those who are interested. We regularly graduate residents who reintegrate into society with a new found confidence. Since 1973 the Jesus House has provided shelter to the homeless of Oklahoma City. Our shelter program remains strong today with an approximate mild-weather capacity of 75 beds. Our program success is monitored by our staff and partner community service organizations who assist in providing benefits and services to our residents. We typically graduate 6-12 residents every quarter. Soup Kitchen Program Description The Jesus House hosts a soup kitchen that serves over 300 hot meals to the sheltered and unsheltered homeless every day. Our food basket distribution is longtime and well known ministry to our community. Program success is monitored by Jesus House staff and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma City. Our Thanksgiving dinner baskets are one of the most well known examples of successful food basket distribution in Oklahoma City. Distributing approximately 1,000 baskets for preparing a turkey dinner, our low income neighbors have come to rely on us for this important traditional dinner in difficult times. 6 Street Ministry/Adopt-A-Block Description Category The Jesus House Street Ministry Outreach delivers a hot, fresh breakfast each week to the unsheltered homeless. With a specialized ministry focus to homeless who are addicted and mentally ill, a majority of the unsheltered and chronic homeless on the streets meet our criteria for shelter services. For many unsheltered homeless, the uncertainty of shelter life, social anxieties and addiction drive a wedge between the prospect of shelter services and a desperate person in need of help. The Jesus House Street Ministry Outreach builds relationships with people we can help based on love, familiarity, friendship and encouragement.the end result is that we connect with people we can serve and help them overcome the barriers of fear, uncertainty and doubt. On any given day, we have persons in our shelter program who used to be unsheltered by choice but who are now obtaining mental stability with available social services, making progress in addiction recovery and setting transitional goals that they never imagined possible. Jesus House welcomes volunteers to help with Street Ministry Outreach. However, all Street Ministry Outreach volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Adopt-A- Block is a community outreach of Jesus House with activities taking place every Saturday where Jesus House is located. In addition to being the roaming ground for many homeless, our neighborhood is one of the most economically depressed areas in Oklahoma City. Each Saturday, teams of our volunteers, including our own resident-guests, into the neighborhood to ask our neighbors, How may we serve you? We offer to take emergency food basket delivery orders, pray with people, fill clothing needs, paint over graffiti and serve our neighbors. While everything about Adopt-A-Block is special, the coolest part is that our very own residentguests volunteer their own time to serve others! Jesus House welcomes volunteers to help with Adopt-A-Block but volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. No Comments on Financials CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments In August 2010, the organization became immersed in scandal when an anonymous letter alleging financial misconduct was sent to the Oklahoma attorney general's office and local news organizations. Subsequently, a new executive director was hired, the organization's by-laws were updated in accordance with new laws concerning non-profit organizations, and the board implemented new internal control procedures. On January 9, 2012, the organization received a letter from the attorney general's office stating the organization had complied with its requirements and that the office had closed its examination.
