2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission To reclaim and prevent young people from being engulfed by negative influences, drugs, alcohol and crime. With their success in mind and the safety of the public, our goal, and our mission is to talk to, educate, counsel and mentor at-risk youth by showing them the detriments of substance abuse and unlawful behavior. Background Founded in 1988, Don t Follow Me, Inc. (DFM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of Middle Tennessee s prison population for the good of the community as a whole. As the Founder and Executive Director of this exciting program, a graduate of Oakwood Collage, Andrews University, and Gulf Coast Seminary, Dr. Cleveland Houser previously served as the Psychiatric Chaplain for the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC). He started the DFM organization in September 1988 at the Nashville Community Services Center, which was the now-defunct work-release, and male Middle Tennessee pre-release division for the TDOC. Since the group s inception, it has proven to serve as a significant deterrent in combating youth involvement in negative lifestyles. DFM has won numerous awards and has been endorsed by area communities, schools, churches, law enforcement agencies, as well as by state and local legislative officials. DFM is a viable entity within the state s communities. It is the organization's earnest desire to provide a greater service to the community, and to always stand in the gap with one purpose in mind to deter some young person from a life of crime, drug and/or alcohol abuse. It is composed of men and women who have previously served time in the Tennessee Department of Correction, but who are now on parole or probation. The overarching purpose of this organization is to educate young people with regards to the detriments of alcohol, drugs, and criminal behavior. It is dualistic in its purpose in that it serves as a youth support group, and as a community support organization. It is a nonprofit incorporated organization with 501(c)(3) status through the state of Tennessee. The men and women of this organization travel all over the country presenting their life stories to the young and the old in an attempt to curtail the proliferation of drug usage, alcohol usage, and unlawful activity. They try to instill in young people the necessity of staying in school, making good grades, obeying their parents/guardians or persons in authority, avoiding peer pressure, making good choices, and believing in themselves. DFM also provides one-on-one counseling, group counseling and mentoring for those young people who need their assistance. DFM goes wherever there s a need because a reason for being is to help those who have been entrapped and who are being entrapped by the vices of this world. 2

They need our help. Without proper guidance, life will culminate into an annihilating suck hole that will strangle children to a premature death. May God help us to liberate children from the poisonous fangs of life s destructive forces. 5
