Mission & Impact Statements Mission Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Background Since its inception in 1993, HFH of Wilson County has averaged building three houses a year. Working in partnership with individual volunteers, faith communities, organizations, and the new homeowner families, Habitat is building houses and hope in Wilson County. Each partner family must complete 'sweat equity hours" to become new homeowners. They purchase their houses at cost from Habitat through 0% interest, 25-year mortgages. Those revenues are then used by Habitat to build more houses and help more families. Impact A major milestone for this Habitat affiliate was the completion of the 50th home in Wilson County in the fall of That event was marked, first, with a groundbreaking ceremony involving the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. Numerous businesses and churches across the county sponsored this build with volunteers and financial support. The Dedication Ceremony concluded the festivities associated with this build as county leaders and supporters celebrated House #50! As the 52nd and 53rd houses are completed in 2011, the number of adults, parents, and children whose lives have been directly impacted by this life-changing homeownership opportunity grows to nearly 200. In 2011 several area churches participated in the Faith Build to complete House #52. The Women Build has generated much interest from various groups of women who have volunteered to construct House #53. In FY , our Habitat ReStore had its best year ever! Revenue for the year exceeded budget expectations by almost $40,000. Moving forward, we continue to work diligently to solidify annual sustainability, especially in the area of fundraising. We also are seeking land for future builds. Needs The needs for our organization are the resources to keep our Habitat growing and meeting the needs of our community. We need volunteers to work on our job sites, provide coaching/mentoring to partner families, and assist with special events. We need land or the money to purchase more land for future builds. We need more community partnerships through businesses, churches, and civic clubs. We need more regular donations from individuals and families in order to aid our annual sustainability. We need to build a larger ReStore. Service Categories Primary Organization Category Housing, Shelter / Housing Development, Construction & Management Secondary Organization Category Community Improvement, Capacity Building / Community & Neighbourhood Development Tertiary Organization Category Public & Societal Benefit / Areas of Service 2
Areas Served TN - Wilson Applicants to become partner families must have lived in Wilson County for at least 12 consecutive months prior to applying. Board Chair Statement Our guiding principle, first and foremost, is our Mission as an ecumenical Christian ministry. We reach across all social borders to build decent, affordable homes for people in need. Wilson County s community of caring businesses and volunteers, and community support, have come together to help change lives for hundreds of Wilson County families. We are proud of the service to families through the number of homes built. But to succeed in the work God has given us to do, we must move quickly to make fact-based business decisions that will affect Habitat families and our community for the next generation. Our strategic business plan calls for us to look toward continued growth. We must move now to secure development funding for additional land for the critical need for affordable housing. We continue to work toward the financial independence that will allow us to continue to serve God s people in need of a hand up through homeownership and not a hand out. We know Habitat works. Most people know that we build houses, but we also build lives, The time is now to move forward to join forces to help raise us to the next level of building lives with homeownership. We will continue to look for all opportunities that will allow us to take that next step. CEO Statement Habitat for Wilson County is committed to expanding it's building efforts in order to affect more families. This allows us to continue to enhance the community through our efforts to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness. We are dedicated to the ideal that all people deserve a simple, decent, healthy place to live on terms they can afford to pay. No other organization in Wilson County provides the opportunity for low income families to become homeowners. We give them hope. We offer a hand up, not a hand out. 3
Programs Programs Giving families hope by providing opportunity for homeownership Description Our primary focus is identifying low-income families and individuals who are looking for and needing an opportunity to enhance their quality of life. One of the best ways to provide a "hand up" to families like this is to enable them to become homeowners. By involving them in the construction of their own house and educating them about homeownership, we increase their chances for success. Due to various circumstances in the past, these families in Wilson County cannot attain mortgage financing through traditional means. Nevertheless, they are hard-working, good citizens trying to better their lives and their children's lives. Our goal is to give them the motivaiton and the training to continue their growth. As Wilson County continues growing, so will our efforts to help more deserving families. Budget Population Served, Adults, Homebuyer Education Description As one way to prepare our partner families for homeownership, they are required to complete a series of homebuyer classes to prepare them to be responsible homeowners. A key component of the classes includes training in budgeting and financial management. Other topics include credit counseling, home maintenance and repair, and lawn care and landscaping. While they are able to earn sweat-equity hours in the process, the greatest benefit is learning how to manage their money through budgeting and prioritizing as well as learning the basics of maintaining a home. The Family Support Committee is presently evaluating additional opportunities for our partner families. Population Served Adults,, Habitat ReStore Description We operate a retail outlet store for new and used building materials and home furnishings. Whether it's a local contractor, a property owner doing remodeling, or a weekend "do-it-yourselfer", customers love getting bargains at the ReStore. Donated goods and materials are welcomed. The proceeds help fund our building program. The ReStore earned enough net profit in 2010 to be cosidered a sponsor for one of our houses. The ReStore is a great place for volunteers from the community to serve. They get to help others, give time to a worthy cause, and have fun--all at the same time! Population Served Adults,, 4
Volunteer Program Description Category We love volunteers! In fact, we can't accomplish our mission without the help of volunteers. On average, about 250 volunteers serve alongside partner families during 12 work days to construct one of our Habitat homes. They bring enthusiasm and a desire to help. Their involvement truly makes a differnce for a partner family. Volunteers also serve in the office and ReStore, on committees, and during special events. General Code Volunteer Programs Population Served General Public/Unspecified,, CEO Comments I am blessed to be working with Habitat for Humanity of Wilson County! Habitat is an amazing organization, and I get to serve with outstanding people. Our Board has a vision for impacting Wilson County and Board Members are supportive and encouraging. Joy Reynolds truly brings "joy" to the office as she shares her care and concern with partner families and manages many of our day to day operations. Richard Schleihauf brings compassion as well as building experience to his role as Construction Director. Kim Schick and her staff in the ReStore do an outstanding job under unique circumstances. Volunteers inspire us as they give their time and effort. Working with our partner families is satisfying as we see them grow into being homeowners. 5

Does the organization have a Document Destruction Policy? Yes Affiliations Affiliation Year Affiliate/Chapter of National Organization 1993 CEO Comments While I love my work with Habitat, there is the challenge of making sure we have positive cash flow. The process of raising funds for house sponsorships and land acquisition as well as general operations demands constant attention. Part of the challenge is not having a staff member who can give focused attention to fundraising. The growth of Wilson County provides numerous opportunities. There are more families in need of affordable housing. There is also a larger pool of potential volunteers and donors. We have a good relationship with local and county government officials. Many churches in the county like to partner with us as part of their local mission efforts. We know that in order to expand our services so that more families are served, we need additional staff: Director of Development, Family Services Coordinator, and full-time Director of Construction. 9
