3 Statements & Search Criteria Statements Mission Statement Natalie's Sisters creates life changing opportunities for women in the sex industry by extending hope, support, and God's unconditional love. Background Statement Our History In 2000 who could have predicted the impact home-cooked meals and conversation would have on a group of at-risk women? Home-cooked food opened the doors of local strip clubs to Bruised Reed team members (our original ministry team name), allowing us to reach hurting, abused and exploited women who might never come to church. Relationships quickly developed with dozens of women and men. We soon realized consistency and unconditional love are the key to reaching people for Christ through this unusual ministry. In 2011 we felt God leading us to expand the ministry but weren t quite sure what that meant, so we began praying. And we continued to pray -- for a solid year. On January 1, 2012, we got a disturbing call from a former club manager. One of the ladies we ministered to in the clubs (who had since moved to escort services and prostitution) had been murdered by her boyfriend/pimp. Her name was Natalie. With the news of her death, we realized it was time to expand our efforts and outreach to include women in all aspects of the sex industry. Realizing Natalie epitomized the scope of women we wished to serve; we adopted the name Natalie s Sisters. Since then we ve continued to minister to women (and men) weekly as we visit local adult entertainment clubs, and through our street outreach we reach women engaged in prostitution -- through our drop-in center, street and home visits, jail visits, mentoring, community resource referrals, hospital visitation, and small gatherings. We have been blessed to work with many women (and men!) who have made life-changing decisions to get out of the industry and start new lives. As the ministry expanded, we started a non-profit organization and partner with numerous churches throughout Lexington to reach at-risk women for Christ. Through the faithfulness of hundreds of volunteers we continue to create life-change opportunities by extending hope, support and God s unconditional love. Impact Statement Natalie's Sisters has been in existence since 2000, and in the last year has become a 501(c)3 organization. We work with hundreds of women involved in the sex industry - through weekly visits to adult entertainment clubs, street ministry to women involved in prostitution, and jail visitation. We have seen numerous women made significant life change -- going to detox and rehab, becoming gainfully employed and reuniting with families and children. We currently operate a drop-in center three days a week and have weekly jail visitation. Within the next year, we would like to see the Center open more often and increase jail visitation to twice weekly. Needs Statement Natalie's Sisters most pressing need is operational funds to fund the ministry -- food, clothing, toiletries, class materials, etc. for ongoing weekly ministry. We will also need to replace our agency vehicle (a mobile unit pulled by a separate van) soon as the donated vehicle we are using is aging. 3

4 Board Chair Statement In 2014, I went on a trip to Haiti that changed my life. What we experienced there helped mold my decision to get involved in local missions as well. When I heard and saw the reality of the issues facing the women served through Natalie s Sisters, I was hooked. There are a lot of questions for those who want to help, and I hope to be a part of the answer! 5 Impact Impact Goals Natalie's Sisters walks with women as they seek to improve their lives and make strides to leave the sex industry. This is accomplished by offering consistency and unconditional love. We bring a meal once a week to the clubs; we are at the jail every week; we provide a hearty sack lunch and respite through our Drop In Center several times a week. We do not cancel due to weather or holidays. We are always there and we are always encouraging our friends, and offering love to them. Our goals are different than most other charities. It is difficult for us to define success numerically. To us, success is a woman going to drug rehabilitation - whether she graduates or not. Success is a woman getting a job away from the club. Success is a woman reaching out to us when she is in need. Success is seeing families reunited and children living with their parents in a happy, healthy home. Strategies 16 years serving women in the clubs and on the street has given us an excellent reputation with the women we will continue to serve, as well as the community at large. We realize that relationships are the key to reaching women at any stage of their involvement in this industry. We begin those relationships wherever we meet -- clubs, street or jail -- and build upon the relationships through offering life skills training, community resource referral and simply meeting basic physical needs. When women are ready to make a life change -- they have our information and our trust and can reach out to us for help needed. Capabilities Our sixteen years experience serving women in the industry is the best possibly source of training we could have received. In addition, our executive director is an industry survivor, which gives her a unique understanding of our target audience. We have a strong volunteer base of over 150 active and dedicated volunteers anxious and ready to continue and expand our program to serve even more women. Indicators Women's lives are changed through this ministry. We will see women begin to make steps towards healing -- beginning with visiting the drop in center, then taking classes and requesting help with community resources. Then some will choose to make the step to enter detox/rehab, returning to re-enter the community, reunite with family and become productive members of society. We consider steps on any of the aforementioned levels to be an indication of progress and success. Progress Sixteen years under the umbrella of Southland Christian Church gave us a strong and firm foundation towards being on our own. This relationship has been instrumental in developing our volunteer team and public awareness of the ministry. We now enjoy strong partnerships with a number of area churches and organizations which allows us to continue to grow and expand our volunteer base. 5

6 Programs Programs Drop In Center Description Purpose: To provide a glimpse into a life free from drugs and prostitution, and all activities related to those lifestyle choices.the desired result will be participants choosing to seek freedom and help for life change. Method: The Drop-In Center will be open several days a week. While resources, activities and events will be available to anyone who chooses to visit throughout the week, there will also be a structured Program for those who wish to actively invest in life change by attending classes for a 12- week period. The Drop In center focuses on four holistic areas of wellbeing: Physical, Social, Emotional/Mental, and Spiritual, and will include as many new experiences for growth as possible. Population Served,, Club Ministry Description Natalie's Sisters prepares home cooked meals one night a week to those working in 5 area adult entertainment clubs. Relationships are established and the women are encouraged to connect with partner ministries for job training and resources. Events are also held throughout the year outside the club for the women and their families. These include holiday parties and back to school events. Additionally, a monthly girls night out gathering is held at local churches. A meal and child care is provided and community partners attend and share resources. Population Served,, Jail Visitation Description Natalie's Sisters volunteers are granted chaplain status at the Fayette County Detention Center. Once a week a team of two volunteers meets face to face with our sisters who are in jail. Team members pray with them, provide them with reflective homework that is discussed at subsequent visits, and offer encouragement. Population Served,, Drop Off Program Description Teams of two to three volunteers ride-a-long with Lexington Metro Police Officers and drop off a hearty sack lunch to our sisters on the street and in their homes. Although she grew up in a loving and close-knit family, she married at the age of 16 and soon found herself a divorced single mom. For several years she struggled to support her son working days as a delivery driver and salesperson, and nights in a strip club. After a few years, she secured a grant to attend school and left the clubs. She attended the University of Kentucky, and for the next 20 years, worked in advertising, public relations and community development. She then spent 15+ years in Women s Ministry, Adult Discipleship and Local Outreach at Southland Christian Church before joining the Natalie s Sisters staff. An industry survivor, Jani prayed about reaching out to women in Lexington s strip clubs and, in 2000 she began an outreach. In 2011, the ministry expanded to also serve women working working in prostitution. Jani enjoys spending as much time as possible with her children, Charles and Bethany; and being Gogo to her two grands Lochlainn and Finley. We ve been reaching out for many years through this ministry, and I m continually amazed at how God uses everyday people to help those who are hurting. When we realize each of us truly is just one mistake or step away from the type of life we see our women struggling to survive, we can t help but reach out. God changed my life; and I am so blessed to be a part of this ministry.
