Statements & Search Criteria Mission Statement The Mission of RWL is to build strong PEOPLE through weightlifting, and shall be to enable RWL athletes to achieve sustained competitive excellence in Olympic competition and to promote and grow the sport of weightlifting in the United States. Additionally, RWL works with people challenged with adversity in their lives, specifically cancer and domestic violence. Our coaching education is of the whole person, not simply their physical self for athletic advancement. Background Statement RWL Weightlifting, Inc. is a nonprofit weightlifting service that seeks to help people faced with adversity. Weightlifting is our vehicle to work through the member's adversity. RWL Weightlifting has a proud history of teaching and coaching competitive weightlifting to all ages. We are a Massachusetts based club with our residence in Franklin, MA. In the past, we have taught athletes, coached athletes, and certified coaches throughout New England, the USA, and the world. We have competed at the local, regional, national, and international level of weightlifting competition. Also, we have conducted camps, certifications and clinics all throughout the USA. At the present we are a club of approximately 4 athletes, and growing. Our mission statement, as stated in our bylaws is our hallmark and we seek to build strong PEOPLE through weightlifting, coaching education of the whole person, not simply their physical self for athletic advancement. With the formation of the non-profit structure, the plans of RWL Weightlifting include implementing an after-school program(s) with middle school children to use weightlifting as a vehicle to create structure in the children's lives, to initiate goal oriented sports training to young people, and to ultimately inspire children to become part of a team and develop strong people including physical, mental and emotional development. This next level of structure within RWL Weightlifting will allow the system to be in place such that Massachusetts youth citizens will have the opportunity to learn the sport of weightlifting, be involved with an established, reputable and successful team, and have the opportunity to be in a training environment that will support competition at the local level and continue with momentum all the way through to the Olympic Dream. Impact Statement RWL Weightlifting, Inc.Impact Statements:3-5Accomplishments in past year:1. We coached a cancer survivor within one year of surgeries to win a silver medal at the 211World Master's Weightlifting Championships Cyprus, Europe, and in two years to win a gold medal at the 212 World Master's Weightlifting Championships Ukraine, Europe.2. We started a non-profit 51c3 corporation3. Through the developed weightlifting team we saved one athletes life from a suicide4. We piloted a big brother/sister mentoring program with a youth cancer patient. 3-5 Goals for To secure grassroots startup funding for our own training facility2. To procure physical space for our home facility3. To start a partnership with New Hope to offer free programming to the children affected with domestic violence.4. To develop a partnership with Dana Farber Cancer institute at The Milford Regional Hospital to work with children and people with cancer.5. To develop a mentoring program akin to a big brother, big sister program with the children in need and use weightlifting as a vehicle towards positive healthy living through sport. Needs Statement Our top five needs include finances and equipment. We have had an incredible start up year. Our next phase in our physical space is to develop a space for parents and supporters to spend their time while thier children participate in our groups, have a conference / learning space for groups with our partnership with the YMCA, and a learning center. 2

CEO/Executive Director Statement It is important for the potential donor to visualize the impact that competitive weightlifting can bring to a needy child's life. For example, when we finalize our partnership with New Hope A Domestic Violence Agency children affected with domestic violence in their lives that have been removed from their family for safety will be given a physical outlet to join a new safe community and re-build relationships. Just being taken away from the violence and put in a shelter is not enough for the child to have the chance to re-build safe, fun, purposeful relationships. Indeed, the vehicle in the child's mind will be the fun competition. However, the reality will be that it will all be possible for this organized, structured, state of the art programming to happen because the child will not have the burden of money to participate. Our initial campaign is Keep a good kid GOOD. It is our sincere hope that you will help the children that are not able to have safety and love in their homes. Thank you. Board Chair Statement I have been involved with sport my entire life. Sport was always there as my friend, and mentor., and my parents were there to drive me, pay for everything, and support me. I want to give that back to the community for kids that do not have such a life. I always trusted my time in sport, and I learned most of the life lessons that I know from competition and participation in sport. I have realized that not all people have the opportunity to participate in sport in part due to the adversities involved in their life. I am on the quest to create a safe place that children can come together, be part of the weightlifting community, gain the confidence that is missing in their lives, and not have to miss out because of the discrimination of finances. I was far more fortunate than many of the children today, and I am determined to provide a safe haven with mentors through which we can use the sport of weightlifting as a vehicle to change children's life, character, self-esteem, and relationships with others. Service Categories Youth Community Service Clubs Youth Development Programs Sports Associations & Training Facilities Geographic Areas Served RWL's home base is in Franklin, MA 238. We will be servicing primarily children from any of the surrounding communities. Please review online profile for full list of selected areas served. 3

Programs Keep a Good Kid GOOD Description The 213 Keep a Good Kid GOOD Campaign will be our start up program to organize, train, work together, travel to local meets together as a team, be united by team uniforms and gear, and work to put the domestic violence and abuse behind for these children. We seek to use Weightlifting to qualify the children for the National Youth Championships June 28-3, 213 and the 214 National Junior Championships in February 214. This campaign will be our grassroots start up project to secure the funding necessary to help these children. Budget 12. Category Population Served Program Short Term Success Program Long term Success Program Success Monitored By Youth Development, General/Other Youth Leadership K-12 (5-19 years), College Aged (18-26 years), Victims By the end of the initial 5 month training program over 5% of the children will be qualified to compete in the NationalYouth Weightlifting Championships. Through this they will be attending 3 x weekly training sessions, working with the team, coaches and their assigned mentor, and participating in a healthy after school curriculum, setting personal and physical goals.the associated anger, aggression and social withdrawal will be reduced in each child by 25-28%. Children who live with domestic violence face numerous risks, such as the risk of exposure to traumatic events, the risk of neglect, and the risk of being directly abused. All of these can lead to negative outcomes for children and clearly have an impact on them. Research studies consistently have found the presence of three categories of childhoodproblems associated with exposure to domestic violence: Behavioral, social, and emotional problems; Cognitive and attitudinal problems; and Long-term problems. Research that has been done on the"power of play" for children to be engaged in a highly disciplined, team atmosphere with a high physical outlet, in order for them to re-establishproper "wiring" in their brains to build the trust back, has shown to be highly effective in assisting children of domestic violence back to healthy lifestyles. Program monitoring:we will use attendance, coaches'feedback, student journaling and drawing, progress in the local meets, and school progress to monitor success. 4

Examples of Program Success One of the many examples of how our system of structure works is a young athlete who came to me after a year of coaching and depression, and she handed me a handful of razor blades, and thanked our team for saving her life. Without us, she would have killed herself. Her abuse lead to depression and a near suicide. She is now successfully in therapy, building her family relationships back, and is a much more adjusted and happy kid! Weightlifting is her medium and her excuse to get better. Program Comments CEO Comments At RWL we are already making a difference in the lives of those we work with. We want to do better, and do more. We want to use weightlifting as the medium to work with children affected with adversities and not have their chance of success limited by the fact that they are living in a shelter, or something similar, and not have money to participate in an organized sport building positive relationships with coaches and teammates. We are challenged right now with the need for funding to get our own place to train these children. A modest space, and we also need equipment. We developed out of Bridgewater State University, and we are restricted to only work with students that are enrolled or alumni of the University. We need to branch out to our own facility so we can start focusing on the children who do not have the opportunities that many of us did when we were young. We do not need any assistance with coaching or education. We are a highly educated program stemming from the University, and we just need the resources to get started, and start making a difference, one by one, in the children who are good...before their environment turns them bad! Thank you for your consideration. 5

Impact Goals This year we partnered with the YMCA and Home Depot bringing a new level of partnership into our organization. Linear with our MISSION, "Building Strong PEOPLE Through Weightlifting", we have started a foundation program with the YMCA "TRUE STRENGTH FOR TEENS" working with year olds challenged with obesity. The unique social change that we are seeking to make with this population is using technology as our vehicle to engage the children with movement (weightlifting and ipad based activity) and integrate them into a social changing structure with their peers. Our ability to define long term success will ultimately be from this program going viral through the YMCA of the USA based on our work at the local level. Our ability to know if we are successful will not be measured by how many youth we have involved in our programs, or by how much weight they have lost. However, it will be measured by the quality of health; both physical and psycho-social, gained from our participants. Reduction in body weight has the potential to increase social acceptance as well as the quality of relationships made when at such a tender age of The potential to increase self-esteem through sturctured and monitored physical activity has been shown through research to be more probable than when tackled by oneself. Strategies RWL Weightlifting will make it's goals through the partnership of the YMCA, and the assistance of Bridgewater State University (BSU). One of our organizations main strategies is the use of our mentor program through the University and the YMCA. Students at BSU are working as mentors for the youth involved in this foundational program and are the Hallmark to the success of this project. Capabilities RWL is uniquely positioned to accomplish our goal of building this youth program through our partnership with the YMCA. Our external strength has been growing in this past year and we are ready to branch out and make some significant growth. Our local YMCA has a membership of 33, members, and they also have very close relationships with the local area schools. Our staff is highly qualified with one doctoral degree staff, 4 staff members with masters degrees, 2 members with bachelors degrees, and the others are still in school. Certifications are too numerous to mention amoung our staff members. Our affiliation with Bridgewater State University and Dr. Robinson puts us in both a unique and specific position to be eligible and able to conduct research with our programs. We have been conducting camps, clinics, certifications, and demonstrations to raise funds to support our budget. We are closing in on completing our first full year at our physical space located at 72 Grove Street in Franklin, MA. 1

Progress We have accomplished our 51c3 status, and our mission. We have secured a physical space, and applied and received grants from both Team Depot and the Home Depot. We spent a month last summer at Home Depot, and with Home Depot volunteers at RWL Weightlifting building and designing our physical space - teaching and learning together. We built bonds of community and friendship together while accomplishing our goals. We had our opening Breast Cancer Awareness Event "The 213 GINNY ROBINSON Memorial Weightlifting Competition" in October with a standing room only event (2+ attendees) with all themes dedicated in pink and awareness brought together with our community in PINK honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We partnered with the YMCA and have developed our "TRUE STRENGTH FOR TEENS" program that will kick off in February 214 for year old overweight / obese youth integrating technology and "apps" with weightlifting and movement. As we move into 214 and beyond we are hoping to accomplish great momentum with both our October Breast Cancer Awareness Weightlifting Event, as well as our TRUE STRENGTH FOR TEENS program in partnership with the YMCA. We hope to build out our facility to expand our programs with the YMCA increasing our mentorship program with physical space enabling us to have study space, technology space, and parent working space. The parental / guardian time invested in their childs development is veluminous! We would like to offer a space that is inclusive for the productivity of everyone involved. The parent / guardian / sibling being productive with their work, home work, food shopping planning and or electronic communication needs. And the youth involved with the integration of technology (parents will be able to view through the new proposed mezzanine) weightlifting, gymnastic based movements, study sessions and mentoring. We have learned that building relationships in the community over time works, and that our successes come from continuously trying and being true to our mission. There are few risks, and the obstacles are in our path are to encourage us to work harder and learn. The biggest obstacle is finances, but over time we are learning that people are supporting us for what we do and who we are. 11

We are in dire need of equipment and a facility to create a safe haven for the children who need our guidance, expertise, and atmosphere. The opportunity to work with children who have been faced with domestic violence and cancer has been very rewarding for us thus far. The prospectus of working with more children on more frequent intervals is fascinating. The inquiries that we get for help each week have far exceeded our ability to take 13

care of the need of these populations. The jump start of some funding is the help that these children need now so they can have a consistent and reliable place to go to, a community to exist in with common backgrounds and goals, and a chance to not live up to what the research predicts...to continue the cycle of abuse.
