2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission People affected by MS can live their best lives as we stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever. Background Since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has worked tirelessly to end the devastating effects of MS. We support more MS research and serve more people with MS than any other national voluntary health organization. In addition to funding the world's most promising basic clinical research, the Society provides highquality community programs to educate and advocate on critical issues related to MS and supplies vital services to people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Impact 180,000+ people get support through the Society's MS Navigators every year 6 Million people per year visit nationalmssociety.org 1,100+ self-help groups provide support in all 50 states 474 community groups connecting people online 56 bills in support of MS priorities passed into law Needs 1. 3 CEO Statement The National MS Society has been providing programs and services for people with multiple sclerosis and their families as well as funding research into a cause, treatment and cure for MS since The Mid South Chapter has been established in TN since We serve approximately 10,000 registered people living with MS in 107 counties throughout our Chapter territory. The Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world and provides programs and services designated to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. 3

4 Programs Programs Independence Programs Description To help our clients stay empowered, The National MS Soceity works to help those with MS learn how to live with this disease and maintain their independence. Programs in this category include educational, employment and insurance, family and youth, financial assistance resources. Social connections and peer support through MS Friends, MS Online and more. Our Information and Referral Center staff are all licensed social workers or counselors. They are able to provide specific referrals for a wide range of needs as well as support. The Chapter is also able to offer service management for clients in need. Budget Population Served, Adults, Health and Wellness Programs Description The National MS Society provides numerous direct to client services promoting health and wellness including: Women's Conferences, "Relationships Matter Couples Workshop", 22 monthly support groups serving 107 counties, educational and supportive conference calls, "Keep S'myelin" newsletter for children and families affected by MS, referrals to health-care professionals and MS Clinics, referrals to wellness resources and exercise programs like MS Aquatics, and programs on energy management and nutrition. Budget Population Served, Adults, Knowledge Programs Description Our knowledge programs are intented to keep our clients and the general public informed about MS. These programs include information and referrals to area resources, a lending library of books and tapes, our quarterly chapter newsletter, "MS Connection, educational pamphlets and brochures, an interacive education program on the internet called "MS Learn Online", quartlery national Magazine titled "Momentum" and our Knowledge Is Power at home educational servies for people newly diagnosed and their families. 5 Advocacy Description The National MS Society works to remain cognizant of state and federal issues affecting people with disabilities including changes in health insurance coverage, life and respite care options and accessible public transportation. The National MS Society works to advocate an increase in funding for national research based iniviatives looking for the casue and cure for MS. The Chapter is involved with Disability Day on the Hill, as well as a Public Policy Conference in Washington D.C. In district meetings are also held with representatives and senators discussing relevant topics to those living with MS. Budget Population Served, Adults, 5

He has extensive development experience with oversight for organizational revenue strategies, team and corporate development, and donor and corporate sponsor cultivation. Prior to this, he served as the Director of Development for the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera and was the Assistant Director of Major Gifts at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
