2 1977 Organization DBA Park Place Behavioral Health Care Former Names Organization's type of tax exempt status Public Supported Charity Name of supporting organization Organization received a competitive grant from the community foundation in the past five years Statements and Search Criteria Mission Statement Osceola Mental Health, Inc., dba Park Place Behavioral Health Care, is Osceola County s Community Mental Health provider. The organization provides a complete continuum of care for adults and children who are impacted by Mental Health, Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse disorders. Osceola Mental Health Inc. has served our community, and the surrounding area, for over 30 years and continues to develope programs that support and meet our citizen s needs. An important piece of the Osceola County Social Service delivery system, the organization strives to provide quality services through outpatient, and residential programs, from Crisis Stabilization to Day Treatment, Outpatient Service and Residential Care. Impact Statement Park Place has partnered with Osceola County to open a Jail Re-entry program that provides treatment and services in addition to alternatives to incarceration, breaking the revolving door cycle of those suffering from Mental Health and or Substance Abuse issues. Park Place Behavioral Health Care has partnered with the Osceola County school system to provide emotional and mental health services for children in need or at risk of mental health, substance abuse or emotional health issues. Background Statement Primary Organization Category Mental Health & Crisis Intervention / Community Mental Health Centers Secondary Organization Category Tertiary Organization Category Geographic Areas Served FL - Osceola Needs Statement CEO Statement 2009 marked the completion of my eighth year as President and CEO of Park Place Behavioral Health Care. Being the Director of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse services at this Agency has been the most rewarding work experience of my life. I have been involved in the health care industry as an administrator for 43 years and Park Place has given me and our dedicated staff the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the people of this community. When I started here in 2002 we had 100 employees and we have grown to over 325 full time employees, significantly contributing to the economic growth of in our community. We have acquired new buildings in which we have developed many new programs to serve the residents of Osceola County. In April we opened a new satellite office in Poinciana to help serve the citizens of Osceola County. We have partnered with Osceola Count y Government to create a prisoner re-entry program for mentally ill clients being released from the County Jail. This has dramatically reduced the recidivism rate for that group of individuals. We have also partnered with the Osceola County School system to significantly increase the number of counselors available for in-home and in-school counseling. With the help of a Federal Grant, counseling services are available to every child regardless of the family s ability to pay.
3 This bring me to the issue which I believe constitutes our most important contribution to the community, the economic downturn of the last two years has impacted our community and the citizens, as much or more than the rest of the State. This has inflicted additional emotional trauma on people when they are at their most vulnerable state and unable to afford treatment or services. At Park Place we have strived to serve all persons regardless of their ability to pay. During the last fiscal year we provided over 3.8 million dollars in uncompensated care. This represents almost 20% of our total revenues. Our Board of Directors, because of the strong commitment to the community, have instructed me to continuer this practice as long as we can remain financially stable. In addition to our willingness to provide these free services, we have also created a benefits specialist position that works with families and individuals to help in the application process of entitlement and or state benefits. This helps us, but, it also helps the clients, who can now purchase their pharmaceuticals and seek other medical care. Osceola County is a wonderful community in which to live and work and we are proud of our place in meeting the needs of the citizens.
